WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

WideWebWitch · 03/02/2008 20:56

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Afternoon all, a frantic couple of days for me - only two more weeks at work from monday, and am now at the stage of trying (and failing) to tie up loose ends, sort stuff out for when the first few weeks of my mat leave and so forth. Nightmare: and not made any better because work have STILL not even INTERVIEWED people to replace me - so as yet I have no one to hand over too

But thank you all for good wishes - I am feeling full of health again, and fairly confident that The Child and I are not going to part company at any point in the immediate future! Have excitnig new pg symptom however- swollen ankles. Does anyone have any tips on what to do about this? I hear eating less sweet stuff is the best way to start, but obviously this is nonsense put about by vegetable propagandists .

Anyway, good couple of days for me. Plenty of cycling, went to do a yoga class at lunchtime, reasonably restrained on chocolate front. Today so far, toast and peanut butter, a bagel with cream cheese and roast veg, a falafel, houmous and salad wrap, coffee, peppermint tea, apple and raspberry juice and water. Tonight: no idea, will have to ransack cupboards when I get home.

Tshell, very glad your father's back home. My dad's health is a constant source of worry; he's overweight in classic male way, does no exercise, eats rubbish, 59 this year.

Marina, hope all ok with you?

And Batters, obviously am devestated that my beloved Lom has failed to work for you - but glad Liz Earle has stepped into the breach and sorted things out

ChutneyMary · 14/02/2008 19:30

Hello girls - it's PollyDolly in a new name, in honour of a fine restaurant! Have been following this week but not posting as our building work has started and I#m super stressed! Am also going to a wedding party reception thing tomorrow with nothing to wear, DDs are being high maintenance and am feeling the pinch. Hope all are well and happy and will try to post properly on Saturday (from work )

Love to all XXX

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/02/2008 19:43

pru - marvellous inch loss, you must be very smug pleased. Tuscany is lovely.
kidsrus - I really wanted to do a Race this year but my nearest ones are all within 5 weeks of my due date.
t/shell - due date is 26 May, so still a long way to go.
bama - wine is excused, glad the MILs visit is going OK.
L&S - you need to put your feet up more often, if you stop for lunch at work just put them up on your desk while you eat, seriously! You could also put brick/books under the end of your bed to raise them a bit at night. Exercise is also good but you're doing enough as it is.
Marina - hope everything is OK?
www - I had wotsits today

So many of our parents died young. My father was 62 and tbh I don't think that's very old. He never met my DH (I was only 25) and he only saw the first 3 of what will be 8 grandchildren.

12,500 steps, everything else tick. I did have an early night but didn't sleep very well which is damned annoying.

I've eaten toast & marmite, seafood sandwich, apple, 4 squares of chocolate, half a bag of wotsits, salmon, salad & potatoes (again), raw carrots. At least 2 litres of water.

Had several friends drop by for coffee today and it was lovely to catch-up with their news.

WideWebWitch · 14/02/2008 22:00

Oh you;re all so lovely, thanks for all the sympathy. I had a go at dh in pre menstrual rant last night and eventually admitted (realised) that actually I wanted him to say WELL DONE for supporting us all and bringing in the bulk of the money. Bless him, he is lovely and I couldn't do it without him doing all the childcare/house stuff and he works ft oth too so ...

BUt, hey, I got a call from an agency who saw my profile on a professional site (linkedin for anyone who knows it) and they have a contract, in The City, right up my street experience wise, but more money and I have an interview at SEVEN THIRTY tomorrow morning so off to bed NOW as will be up at 5am. Roll on my week off next week, starting tomorrow night.

Not a great day bootcamp as was up til midnight last night having a go at talking to dh and am KNACKERED

2 pieces toast at home
2 pieces at work
chicken/prawn/egg sandwich, 500 cals
crisps
kitkat
SUNSCREEN at least!
water ok
bacon and cheese croissant at Euston
rosemary crusted sea bass
a few chips
some veg

and walked from Euston to Ttt Ct Rd and it was most enjoyable, may stick to that in future (unless I get City job but must assume I won't)

Wish me luck everyone! WEll done all

unknownrebelbang · 14/02/2008 23:22

GOOD LUCK WWW!

Hope you're ok Marina.

Hope you've got your central heating sorted Batters.

How cute bama. You're surviving well by the sounds of it

Feet up at every opportunity L&S, only advice I can remember(had terrible swollen ankles).

My aunt does the Race for Life every year. Very emotional event as my mam completed the first one locally not long before she died (I was heavily pg with DS3 so couldn't). I have completed it in the past, but now I tend to go to support my aunt rather than participate.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 15 mins on the bike
  • Lots of weak tea/water
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream no
  • Go to bed early - I will on Sunday. No early mornings though this week.
  • Eat healthily, another sausage sandwich, chocolates and erm cough sweets .
  • Be happy, oh yes. I had champers, chocolates and a dozen roses off DH (am chuffed cos it's far more than I was expecting). Not feeling great today (just the damn cough) so a lovely boost.

The show was toughgoing tonight (Thursday was tough last time) but only tomorrow night and two shows on Saturday, so over half-way there.

Gala night tomorrow - need to glam up a tad...which is a bit difficult when running round after 26 children! We didn't bother last time, but I shall try to make an effort this time.

tortoiseSHELL · 15/02/2008 00:37

Good luck for the interview www!!! Really hope it goes well!!!!

www - hope it went well. You are doing a wonderful job, and I'm sure your dh is grateful. You've reminded me that I need to tell my dh how much I appreciate his efforts.

I was very bad yesterday, but don't care, it was Valentines, so I felt entitled to champagne. And I'm going out with dh tonight.

I'd forgotten just how tiring it is looking after 2 children full time. Whilst we've had a lovely half term (lots of walks, gardening, playing of battleships, went to a farm yesterday) I will be relieved to have my 2 hours to myself on Monday.

Marina - hope you're OK and it's nothing serious preventing you from posting.

it's a little late to say break a leg unknown, but I hope teh last shows go smoothly.

LoveAndSqualor · 15/02/2008 11:47

www - hope it went well!! update with news as soon as you have a sec, please. Horrid early start but really good to get it out of the way before you have time to dwell on it, I think.

Thanks all for swollen ankles advice! Have feet up on pile of books under desk, and will get them right up on the desk come lunchtime. Most amusing last night: I took my socks off and it looked as though I'd had elastic bands around them. They are not, I must confess, the daintiest of ankles in the normal run of things (I come from peasant stock), so swelling is merely accentuating a general trend to sturdiness in the ankle region

DP and I ate smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast last night, as a gesture to St Valentine (ashamed to say that he got me a card but I completely forgot!), and had a chocolate brownie for pudding. Plus lovely bath with oil, so felt very relaxed, and in bed and asleep quite early. Today, the usual toast and peanut butter and coffee, and an apple and two ginger biscuits. And lots of water!

unknownrebel - what form will the glamming-up take? Details, please!! Only five weeks until EDD for me, so v keen to take vicarious pleasure in other people's glamming!

tortoiseSHELL · 15/02/2008 12:11

L&S - I found the best way to prevent swollen ankles was to have a foot pillow in bed, so your feet have all night to drain any fluid off!

Hope you're feeling ok generally.

WideWebWitch · 15/02/2008 19:43

Hello everyone, well, I've got a second int so I did something right BUT the bloke asked me "How old are your children? What are your childcare arrangements? What does your husband do? Do you mind travelling? (they have offices in Sydney and HK) "

and while I said, yes, excellent childcare blah blah I think he actually wanted me to say "well, pretend I don't have any, that's how much it affects me" which I more or less did but IT PISSED ME OFF, MEN DO NOT GET ASKED THESE QUESTIONS

And consequently don't know if I want to work for him, frankly.

Oh well, if I don;t get it I won't mind really. Am knackered snice up at 5am but still, it was a good productive day.

2 pieces toast, Marmite
egg mayo sandwich 300 cal
cheddars, no idea, think 250 cal
then walked 15 mins to see work woman
then tried to leave work early and bloody Central line delays meant I still only got the bloody train I would have got normally if I left at normal time, grrr.
So went to first class lounge at Euston, ate chinese crackers and had a glass of wine and then had a cookies from Miss Millies oops

and am now home and OFF FOR NINE WHOLE DAYS YIPPEE and drinking Champagne we didn't have last night

I will start a new thread on Sun, we've been on this one 2 weeks. Have TERRIBLE PMT too.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 15/02/2008 23:42

They're not supposed to ask those questions are they? Fingers crossed anyway, nice to have options. Enjoy half-term.

That was the nice thing Batters, DH doesn't do romance, bless him.

Glamming up - bear in mind, we have to be in dark clothing, and running up and down stairs, in the end I wore a red vest under a black shirt worn open, and then fastened the buttons for the duration. I put on a pair of chunky heels, but abandoned them half-way through, lol. Made sure hair and make-up were just so, too. That was as good as it got, but I looked ok, even if I do say so myself.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze, roll on tomorow!
  • No exercise
  • Lots of weak tea/water
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Eat healthily, meat & potato pie amongst other things...although I did choose not to have cake too
  • Be happy, yes. Good night again tonight.
Prufrock · 16/02/2008 12:04

I didn't manage to take my make up off last night. In fact I didn't manage to take my clothes off - dh had to undress me after he'd paid the babysitter.

I had the most wonderful meal at hotel du Vin, deliious cocktails to start, then a glass of champagne - compliments of the sommelier, because he insisted we clear our palates before drinking the amazingly wonderful Cote Rotie that dh chose to celebrate bonus day. I ate duck then venison. Then a glass of a 1959 vintage something that the lovely sommelier gave us (I think he thought we actually knew something about wine but tbh by that time I could have been drinking gnat's piss and not noticed . Then teh most perfect apple tart and a glass of Tokaj, then a Baileys with coffee. So not quite boot camp. But such fun.

WideWebWitch · 16/02/2008 13:21

lol Prufrock, thast sounds like a lovely evening. I hope his bonus was large fnar fnar

Unnown, thqanks. I'm glad you were pleased with the outfit, it sounds good

hi everyone!

have not been checking in but have been bootcamping so here is my update for the last fortnight.

apologies, there is no way i will keep up with the small talk when i am not checking in on the basics!

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter - 10/10.
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it - 6.5/10 - a vast improvement in this department but i have had one weekday evening of excess in both weeks - so more work to do there.
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer - 8/10 have done either power walking or brisk walking every weekday.
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day - 8/10 - am aiming for 6/8 large cups/glasses of fluids per day and usually hitting this.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible - 5/10 have done this a few times but needs more focus
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff - 8/10 have been quite conscientious with the old extremities
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos - aarrgh - 4/10 - am pants at going to bed early.
  • Eat healthily - am using the WW online points tracker to monitor this - mixed results - much less fat and sugar consumed per day - but can easily not get to 5 a day fruit/veg unless i really think about it - so a low score of 5/10.
  • Be happy - well it goes up and down

overall i am pleased with my progress

good luck to all!

ps - www good luck with the job search and i will try and email or ring monday!

WideWebWitch · 16/02/2008 13:38

Hey well done BK, we've been wondering how you are! Small talk isn't obligatory, don't worry.
I'm off work Monday, all week in fact, so would love a chat if you're around. (but only a social call etc, don't worry, don't want to pester you for advice or anything ) (Or we could meet for dinner one night but realise it's short notice)

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/02/2008 16:30

www - well done for getting 2nd interview, even if you don't want the offer!

I have had DCs swimming lessons immediately followed by taking DS1 to a party (and not being able to leave because he's a pita). Party was full of 5yo girls screaming. So wow! does my head hurt now. Why do they do it? I'm bloody glad my girls don't.

2 bowls of multi-grain cereal, toasted bagel with marmite, ham & coleslaw sandwich, chocolate wafer biscuit. Orange juice & iron supplement. 2 coffees. Not nearly enough water - will go and down several glasses now as it might clear my head. Dinner ???? - something like Pru's would be nice. But unlikely.

Only about 5,000 steps so far today. Everything else tick including pelvic floor exercises!

And it's half-term. Yippee!

unknownrebelbang · 17/02/2008 19:59

Prufrock sounds fab!

Half-term is at an end for us, boohiss, and no break, good job it's only a short term, lol.

I have had a great week, but I'm exhausted now, lol (can't imagine who we did the show last time on a school/work week!)

The downside is I haven't exercised or eaten properly, or gone to bed at a reasonable time, but it has been great fun.

Rebel goes off to bed with a mix of timewarp, dirty dancing and high school musical jigging around her head, rofl.

kidsrus · 17/02/2008 21:49

well done www on 2nd interview
not doing too bad on bootcamp,
I defo look better than when i did race for life last year.
mum and i look like drowned witches (it was v wet and we stripped to get in the car!
take a look

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/02/2008 22:43

unknown - congrats on completing a busy week!
kidsrus - lol @ drowned witches!

I didn't put my Moron on this morning which is just as well as I've had a very lazy day, cooking & reading and not much else.

I've eaten toast & marmite, orange, poppy seed crackers, ham & salad, raw carrots, roast chicken etc and a Cornetto. Also several squares of chocolate and a packet of Refreshers. Lots of coffee but lots of water too.

Tick everything else and I'm just off to bed now. Not that I have to get up for school tomorrow.

Have a good week everyone,

New thread...?

Morning all (or afternoon, I suppose, strictly speaking ... )

www - congrats on second interview! keep us posted. Is it happening during your week off? (what a week to have off, btw - glorious weather)

prufrock, am swooning at the thought of your meal. And the wine! Tokaj is one of my very favourite things. High on happiness, I'm guessing ...

Bit of a weird weekend, foodwise - the dominant theme was Special K (managed to get through a whole box of it!). Spent Saturday visitnig friends with babies, so heavy on the tea and cake. Very delicious and healthy sea bass, brown rice, chard and green salad for dinner, though. On Sunday, went for lunch at a (baby-free) friend's, and ate far too much delicious food (beef tagine, couscous, bread, houmous, enormous meringues for pudding); could barely move afterwards and skipped tea altogether (apart from a final, farewell bowl of Special K ... )

Generally happy weekend marred only slightly by my first I-feel-like-a-whale pregnancy strop on Sunday morning - suddenly feel like I'm all bump, and everything is too much effort. DP wisely left me to it and went to feed the neighbours' cat. I eventually got bored, got up and managed to find a top that fit and didn't look too horrific . Will be very glad to have my (battered) body back in a month's time though!

WideWebWitch · 18/02/2008 15:50

HELLO!

Sorry, I haven't started a new thread, shall we stay here as it's half term and get serious and week 1 ish again next week?

lol batters at fitting in walking around eating!

Me too, have eaten lobster and crab and prawns and hummus abnd lentil salad and loads of bread with BUTTER and lots of Champagne and Cava and pralines and cream ice cream and it's been bliss. I fell asleep at 9.40 on Friday night, I think work has really taken it out of me and I need to make sure I take a couple of weeks off every 2 months or somethnig. And last night we were up til 1am watching Goodfellas on the projector

today
haven't left house
bacon roll
2 sausages
baked potato with cheese and butter
woke at half seven, went back to bed at ten til midday while dh took dd for a walk
showered and back in my pyjamas
having M&S beef wellington tonight
and M&S caesar style veg
and wine

I am thoroughly enjoying myself though and definitely re charging.
