Please help me find a maggot coat

That's what DH calls them, what does he know...

I'm after a long, padded coat. Preferably with an oversized collar or hood. Rather not with fur trim. All the ones I've found look either really cheap school coat material, or just drab.

I'm after glam and thick and luxurious, and it's hard to find in this style of coat. Don't really want a belted one, but happy to be persuaded otherwise.

Megan McKenna had one on, in MasterChef, when they do that slow-mo walk at the beginning, in like a pinky beige, which is almost exactly what I wanted but I can't find a pic of that at all now.

Finally, don't want black. Yes to khaki, nude, grey and navy.

Pic attached is just to give a rough idea, but I think all of those are just so ...meh. The olive one at the end I like best because it's that soft feel matte fabric, which I think makes it more sumptuous, I don't want shiny.

Anyone know of anything?

Thank you! Xx

I have really long one from Arket and I love it. The "Re:Down" ones are made with recycled down and are really warm.

Aahhhhhhhh · 28/12/2022 22:07

@Defiantlynot41 no not Balenciaga. Have you not heard about their recent campaigns? I wouldn’t buy a single thing from them.

NewToWoo · 28/12/2022 22:09

Dusty pink matt one here

Changechangychange · 28/12/2022 22:24

The pink one you saw was probably Canada Goose

TwinsAndTiramisu · 28/12/2022 22:29

This is technically everything I'm looking for, so why do I not feel it's glamorous?

Do you think the colour looks a bit washed out/faded?

I’ve got my eye on this: Sweaty Betty long puffa

JustAnotherManicNameChange · 28/12/2022 22:32

@TwinsAndTiramisu if I'm brutally honest, it's because this type of coat isn't exactly uhmm.. glamorous.

Here are all the search options, I just thought that one was the nicest and I quite liked the colour, but something else might resonate with you more.

I'm not a style & beauty person, but Lands End do lots of really warm coats along those lines - might be worth a look.

I have one from Lands end. It actually looks quite glamorous on
I love it.

I do realise how ironic the following sentence is, but, the one that Megan McKenna was wearing really was glam!

It just looked thick and sumptuous. Really luxurious.

That's why I'm having so much trouble finding one. So many are drab and uninspired.

I just got one from M&S Thermalite range and it fits your description well. £69.99.
A 25 yr old fashionista in work complimented me on it so it must be ok.

Greatly · 28/12/2022 22:37

I've just spent a few days in London and most v glam women in Hampstead were wearing them. Veja trainers and cashmere jumpers underneath.

JustAnotherManicNameChange · 28/12/2022 22:44

@TwinsAndTiramisu was it the 2020 green one? From the front it did indeed look great but the back...

Btw it's this coat (different colour and year) from this designer.

Out of stock sadly

JustAnotherManicNameChange · 28/12/2022 22:54

I'd say this one is similarly thick and fancy. With the price tag for it too. Just have a nosey at the other coats in that section.

Have you tried Uniqlo? www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/outerwear/down-coats-jackets-vests

I wouldn’t wear one so guess I’m not the right person but how often is it actually cold enough to wear something like this? Or is it pure aesthetics and no functionality at all? I’d boil if I walked to work in something like this.

Are you serious? I walked 20000 steps a day in mine when it was really cold and it was lovely. Warm and lightweight and so cosy if waiting for a train.

Creamcheesedreams · 28/12/2022 23:12

Check out the brand Didriksons. Treated myself to the Toruń Parka and I'm loving the coziness!

I imagine standing still might be ok but yeah I walk to work (30 mins each way) and don’t normally get cold so these coats seem a bit much but I haven’t ever worn one to be fair.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 28/12/2022 23:16

I've got one similar colour to the last photo with a large hood and it's Morrisons!! Absolutely love it.
