Wearing an unflattering outfit to a party

I'm having a total nightmare trying to find a dress for a party in a couple of weeks. It's a dressy ish event so I wanted to go with a long dress but my hips are so enormous that they all look stupid.

I found a dress that looks nice enough but people have told me it pretty much looks awful but I'm tempted to wear it anyway. It is appropriate and it's comfy!

Pic attached of the offending dress. I look better in a super short dress because they make me look taller but they aren't appropriate so there we go.

I've tried on so many now and none of them look wow and it's just making me more and more miserable that I'm such an enormous lump so I give up. I'm either wearing this or not going.

Great choice!

You have a fabulous figure! FYI, having your mirror tilted makes you look very different to in real life. Stand it up straight and you may change your mind about how you think you look.

That looks fabulous and like The Right Dress Smile You look lovely.

The new one is a worthy winner it's stunning on you so have a wonderful evening

AllOfThemWitches · 31/12/2022 21:13

Omg it's perfect!

AmazonPrim · 31/12/2022 21:23

That last one you've decided to go for is so much better OP! You look fantastic and it suits your proportions much better. The first one and the one with boots were r very nice if I'm being completely honest. This one is 👌🏻

Ikeameatballs · 31/12/2022 21:47

This is the perfect dress! Enjoy your evening.

I like the one with the boots but it's not suitable for the event. The first black one I like enough to keep for just casual wear, maybe like dinner out with flip flops in the summer because whilst it's not the best it's not the worst.

I still feel a bit self conscious about my hips, it doesn't help when I see my friends in lovely dresses but they are taller with smaller hips so they look more in proportion.

I need to lose another 10kg and try bulk up my top half and maybe I'll be more in proportion.

Now the lipstick dilemma, to red or to nude?! That also has an impact on if I do statement eyes or not.

Love your new dress, Looks great on you.

minipie · 01/01/2023 17:01

YESSS!! Great dress! Perfect hourglass effect. It’s not just the fishtail which helps balance you out, it’s the wide set straps and hence width across the top of the dress too. I always look for this in dresses, something that creates width across the bust or shoulders to balance my hips and thighs. Looks fab.

Red lips would be great but so would statement eyes and nude lips. Latter is perhaps easier as you don’t need to retouch in the same way.

minipie · 01/01/2023 17:04

PS I like the one with boots too although not for a smart event as you say.

LlynTegid · 01/01/2023 17:29

Enjoy your evening. I'd bet a reasonable sum of money that many of those there will look less good than you.

Many of those what? 🤔

The last one is absolutely perfect for you.
The first really does not flatter you.

Thanks but I've sorted it now.

I don't see why we should have to hide our hips though, we have them, they aren't shameful so why do we have to pretend they aren't there.

I'm following a plus sized woman on FB who does videos of her dresses and she looks incredible, she doesn't hide what she has at all.

You have a very healthy attitude and I like it. 😊

I don't really, I can spend ages picking myself apart for so many reasons and a lot of them I can not change. I want to change my mindset and be ok with my flaws but I have a long way to go.

Well, I think you're making a good start.

I love it. You look fabulous in that. Hope you have an amazing time and feel very glam, because you absolutely should!
