What would you choose? Even if you had the money, would you splash it on a designer handbag? Is it worth it?

OP posts:

Chanel flap in
a bright colour 100% for me .

I have a few designer bags that cost about 3k each and I always pick neutral colours so the Chanel bag would be my dream
bag.

schmalex · 18/12/2022 11:36

I'd also go Chanel. I have a couple and they're so worth it!

Zeeza · 18/12/2022 11:39

No I wouldn't. I know which brand i would if I did. But I dont want to be flashy. I want to sleep by in life well dressed but anonymous.

Mind you, nobody would recognise The Row. So maybe one of theirs. They are beautiful but anonymous.

Zampa · 18/12/2022 11:42

I contemplated a 4 figure bag earlier this year but was too worried about being mugged for it or someone lifting it in a bar or restaurant.

Instead I spent £500 on a small APC Grace and I love it and feel like I can actually use it.

NoelNoNoel · 18/12/2022 11:52

I have this is in a khaki green type of colour. It’s good as I can wear it as a shoulder bag or across the body. It goes with lots of my summer, Autumn and winter clothes.

I like that is dull silver hardwear, it feels nice and modern.

twinmum2022 · 18/12/2022 11:57

Chanel or YSL 😊 always tempted until I look up the price again haha

Weelegs29 · 18/12/2022 12:09

YSL sac de jour baby, and a Chloe Marcie saddle bag just for good measure!

Polarbearyfairy · 18/12/2022 12:16

Depends on what you want to use it for really! I have a bag wardrobe:

Mulberry Alexa in mulberry green for every day
Mulberry Bayswater for work when I don't need my laptop
Longchamp large le pliage for work when i need my laptop - also doubles as a cabin bag and beach bag on holiday
Very Small longchamp leather bag that fits purse, keys, phone, which I tuck inside my work bag when I take my laptop so I have a small bag to take out at lunch time if needs be
Orla kiely waterproof fabric cross body for rainy days where I don't want to take the Alexa bag with me in case the leather gets ruined.
Small le pliage for days out with kids.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/12/2022 12:21

No, I wouldn't. My trusty TK Maxx numbers do exactly the same job and still leave me money to eat.
FWIW- I have been to the Mulberry factory at their HQ. They are made on a production line just like most products people buy these days. Not hand stitched by vestal virgins.

gogohmm · 18/12/2022 12:26

If I was to buy a more expensive bag I would choose one by an artisan leather company, eg the one in Greenwich market. Spoke to the actual person who makes them, they told me the source of their leather and the prices are a fraction of designer bags too

Moonpies · 18/12/2022 12:27

Yes I would. But I don't think I go crazy (like 30 Birkins in different colour). Would probably get YSL and Loewe. I don't know where I would wear Chanel bag, but maybe if I was that rich, I would have places to wear it 😆

DancingSober · 18/12/2022 12:55

I'd get a Dior Lady bag. I don't know if they're in or an investment or whatever, but I just love them.

I have one in black, I love swinging it when I walk.

DancingSober · 18/12/2022 12:56

Ooooooooo so jealous 😂

Floisme · 18/12/2022 13:16

If money were no object, I would pay to have a bag made to my exact specifications. That wouldn't be remotely cheap but at least it would be functional, and I wouldn't be paying for plug ugly trims and logos.

Kaftankween · 18/12/2022 13:46

I’d like a bottega pouch or a loewe flamenco. I’ve never been massively into bags and if I had spare cash I’d be more likely to buy jewellery.

Wagsandclaws · 18/12/2022 13:54

Bags are my thing! I've got Chanel, Dior and ysl.

I think in terms of craftsmanship Dior ( lady Dior ) or a Ysl. I don't rate Chanel mic these days as I think the craftsmanship has gone downhill.

Also worth a look are Bvlgari Serpenti bags, the craftsmanship is exquisite.

I've got a couple of Chloe bags, the Marcie and the Pixie and they are lovely quality as well.

I've got one Hermes, it's a garden party ( tote ) and I use it a lot, it's fantastic quality also.

Have fun choosing, I adore getting to choose a new bag!

Ponks · 18/12/2022 15:01

I'd have a bag made to order, I've seen someone who makes bags from parts of old saddles and bridles, and I'd have my old horse's tack converted into a satchel. Not remotely fashionable but would be lovely for me.

ivfbabymomma1 · 18/12/2022 15:12

A Hermes Kelly!!!

Readaboutyourself · 18/12/2022 15:13

Mulberry Bayswater in oak. It’s just timeless & ages beautifully.

If money was no object you would get a Mulberry?

Hashtagihearya · 18/12/2022 16:18

Loewe (want the puzzle)
YSL (have the quilted camera bag)
Dior lady
Gucci Marmont

whataboutya · 18/12/2022 16:24

I would get an Hermès Kelly, not a Birkin. I would get it in a bright colour, not playing it safe.

Nw22 · 18/12/2022 16:28

I have a classic Chanel flap but just don’t use it.
My dream is probably vintage Kelly.
