Handbags! Money no object

What would you choose? Even if you had the money, would you splash it on a designer handbag? Is it worth it?

With the YSL, Dior, Gucci is black the classic colour to go with for year round?

I very rarely wear black and notice they don't seem to offer these in chestnut brown etc? I think I'd rather a brown bag, not sure.

If money was no object you would get a Mulberry?

This comment! 😂

Well the royal family carry Mulberry and Aspinal and Strathberry… all good quality British brands. And obviously they could afford more.

Bags are a statement. What statement do you want to make? These days, Chanel screams “desperate wannabe influencer” so I wouldn’t necessarily splash out even if money were no object.

Maybe I’d go for a Louboutin Paloma medium for fancy events / work. Or for casual days, Hermes Evelyne PM carried the right way round (logo hidden). Going for bags which fit an iPad.

I have a classic Chanel flap but just don’t use it.

My dream is probably vintage Kelly*
Why don’t you use it? I’ve got so used to my cross body bags now I use my others a lot less.

Kione · 18/12/2022 16:34

I make hand bags, so I use
Now I am learning to make modern crochet bags.

Now, I would live to have a Mulberry one.

But the most expensive I own is a leather handmade by an independent brand, was about £600

Kione · 18/12/2022 16:37

Gosh apologies for the typos 🙄

Kione · 18/12/2022 16:43

These are sooo easy to make!

I love a posh bag, would love a Loewe puzzle, a Fendi peekaboo and a Gucci Jackie. But high end designer bags have shot up in price year on year recently 😮 I'm sure the craftsmanship and cost of materials hasn't gone up so much. So I'd go for mid-range brands like Longchamp and Coach over proper designer. Though I'd always spend money on jewellery over handbags

elm26 · 18/12/2022 19:24

Chanel classic or black long chain strap YSL.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/12/2022 19:25

A birkin or a large ysl chain bag

ShesThunderstorms · 18/12/2022 19:30

My dream is a black Chanel classic flap in caviar leather with gold hardware. It's my "if I win t lottery" purchase.

Nw22 · 18/12/2022 19:48

@NoelNoNoel it doesn’t feel like a bag I can take to work and I do worry about it being stolen so don’t take it out if I might be drunk. I think I’d prefer something vintage. It’s just too influencer now I think.
I get much more use out of my Loewe puzzle or Celine triomphe

Unicorn2022 · 18/12/2022 19:57

I would love a Louboutin Cabata which is about £1400, and that would be my limit I think. I don't like to carry around really expensive things.

User1274838 · 18/12/2022 20:16

yes they hold there value and even increase in value it’s called an investment darling! Especially Hermes Kelly’s and Birkin my all time favourite. But if too much or if you are not able to get hold of one a classic channel will always do the trick.

BedTaker · 18/12/2022 20:35

It was always a Chanel classic flap for me - but now their price hikes are so ridiculously piss taking, it feels like they are just laughing at people who are stupid enough to keep paying more and more for bags that are ever decreasing in quality. So I don't think I would now. If I was going to, it would be a vintage one.

I would like a Gucci Marmont or Soho, but they are not out of this world prices.

I don't think that even if I were a billionaire, I would buy a Hermes. I would just feel like a mug.

😂😂😂 you have made me laugh so much I don't take it out if I might be drunk

Shitfather · 18/12/2022 22:21

I have a black Chanel one and never use it for fear of being mugged in London and it feels too showy in the current climate. It is utterly divine, no doubt, but it sits in my wardrobe increasing in value. I’d out towards a watch or piece of jewelry.

windmill26 · 19/12/2022 22:25

I think you can't go wrong with Hermes. You don't have to go for the usual Kelly or Birkin. They have so many lovely handbags with different price-tags , shapes , colours . The quality is exquisite .

windmill26 · 19/12/2022 22:28

I would also recommend Connolly and Loro Piana. Again fantastic quality.

EasterIssland · 19/12/2022 22:41

I was aspinal but seeing the prices of what ones you comment it feels cheap!
still I’ve not bought it for the fear of getting it stolen

fuckthemail · 20/12/2022 07:23

So interesting reading all your replies!

How do you all cope with these flap bags? I always throw my bag about - on the floor, in the car, and everything falls out! But maybe if I'd paid ££££ I wouldn't throw my bag anymore?!

But can anyone recommend a nice bag with zips?? No flaps. don't see myself changing anytime soon!

Yes but I don't know anyone who wants a home made Prada bag

user159 · 20/12/2022 07:36

I recently got the Aspinal Lottie and it's such good quality for the price and not as obvious, if you're worried about being targeted. I went for this and a new watch rather than a Chanel which I know I would love but would be worried about and potentially not use much.

Namechangeallchangeplease · 20/12/2022 07:37

Valentino, especially the floral applique bags from around 2008-2009. Many of them are now vintage and more affordable in price.

I already have several Longchamp, Kate Spade and a Moschino. Not used day to day though.

Mulberry Bayswater in oak. It’s just timeless & ages beautifully.

I have one of these.
it is in fantastic condition despite the fact that I use it everyday and am a bit reckless with it

Zipps · 20/12/2022 07:58

I would buy a Chanel Motorcycle helmet mini. Price on application 😬
I already invest in jewellery, fine wine etc. I've been looking at handbags for a while and would love this.
