How many of you wear foundation every day? or should that be, how many of you DON'T?

I know Twiglett doesn't, and I don't (only for parties). I just don't like it (and I am lucky enough to have good skin - although I have chubby cheeks to counterbalance that so don't hate me )

So do you wear it everyday? from what age, and why?

Pure nosiness...

No foundation here. Am wearing concealer to hide the bags under my eyes for the first time today. Dh noticed a huge difference (not!) even with prompting. Wondering whether need some to stop me looking so pasty (always feel haggard-looking at this time of year), but don't like the plastered-on effect.

I was sent to classes as a late teenager and will definitely send my girls.

I never managed to do hair well though, would love to do twists and chignons etc. But alas, I have very shiny, seriously heavy hair and it only does straight-down or straight-down.

Vacua · 02/02/2008 11:30

tinted and permed is a possibility, but last time I had mine tinted (first and last) I discovered I was mildly phobic about having things so close to my eyes

it was a bit traumatising!

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 11:32

went to classes

cant imagine my mum would have entertained that idea

JingleyJen · 02/02/2008 11:33

I don't put it on when I get up in the morning but when I am going out of the house I tend to slap a bit on and some mascara and lipsalve.

certainly not a thorough job just a touch up so I don't look like the living dead

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 11:33

i think i did have the tinted in another lifetime i dont think it can have been that good as i never did it again afaik

i might look at ysl

LyraSilvertongue · 02/02/2008 11:34

I wear foundation once in a blue moon. I used to wear it every day pre-children.
I do wear lipstick every day though.

needmorecoffee · 02/02/2008 11:35

those who wear it...do you make an effort to get cruelty-free stuff or non-chemical stuff? If not, why not?

hifi · 02/02/2008 11:37

lulumamma, i have never looked at your profile until today and always imagined you as a buxom west indian lady!

twelveyeargap · 02/02/2008 11:43

I wear at least tinted moisturiser every day, eyeliner, mascara and gloss.

If I'm going out I wear full make up. Realised that if I don't do my make up in the morning, I don't feel like going out. It's as though I'm still in my pyjamas.

Think it's from years of "dressing up" for the office, working in blue chip companies and the City. I feel dead if I don't wear it, so now I'm a SAHM, I still wear it. Have also had to buy some decent maternity clothes because slopping around in baggy jumpers made me feel absolutely horrid.

Same goes for leg/ bikini waxing, manicures etc. Luckily I still get to have them.

Vacua · 02/02/2008 11:43

I assume most stuff is cruelty-free but it probably isn't

Immaculateconception · 02/02/2008 11:52

I use pressed powder, only use liquid foundation when I'm going out. I use it on the days I'm in work as its part of my contract that I have to look good at all times. I use one that is almost the same colour as my skin tone as I don't like the "mask" look and I have had many a person say I've got good skin as it looks that natural. I'm 32 by the way! On the days I have off I'm au naturel all the time. Gives my face and skin to breath as I think it is important to allow it to breath.

NorthernLurker · 02/02/2008 11:55

I never wear any make-up - just never got into it. This thread is making me a bit paranoid though!

Sunshinemummy · 02/02/2008 11:56

I never wear as I can't bear the way it feels on my skin.

justnally · 02/02/2008 11:57

not at all, ever. used to, but have bad skin type and would get itchy. also made me look like i had flat, lifeless skin. obviously doing it all wrong in my case!

yummylittlelapin · 02/02/2008 11:58

Blimey Immaculateconception, what do you do for a living?!

Tamum · 02/02/2008 11:59

I wear it every day now, but only started in the last few years (am mid-forties). I always avoided it because I thought it would look too "made-up", but it's entirely possible to just look subtly better IME.

Lulumama · 02/02/2008 11:59

hifi that is hilarious ! i usually get the 'oh, i just thought you were blonde !' i fancy being a big buxom west indian.. great cuisine !!

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 12:01

tamum i didnt realise you were in your forties lol

Heathcliffscathy · 02/02/2008 12:01

i wear foundation very rarely, like twice a year (if i'm going to a thing like a wedding or something and know there will be official photos type thing)

Niecie · 02/02/2008 12:02

Never worn it, well maybe very occasionally but never regularly.

Why? Because it makes me look older, emphasizes wrinkles more. I have noticed that with other people too. Maybe we are using the wrong sort of foundation but the only ones I have bought have been make-up counter recommended and not cheap so it should be better.

But anyway, I have a horror of looking like those over made up women who work on make up counters - they are not good advertisements of their products.

Also I don't have the time or inclination to faff about in the morning.

Hassled · 02/02/2008 12:02

LL - what mineral stuff (re dark circles)??? WHat have I been missing all my life?

Immaculateconception · 02/02/2008 12:03

Work for a well known retailer but it comes with the whole thing of we are not to go make up free and scare the customer! at least that's what we think in there!

soph28 · 02/02/2008 12:08

I wear concealer, powder (cos i have shiny skin) and a powder bronzer or blusher everyday in winter.

If I've got a special occasion- hardly ever- I wear foundation and mascara as well!
