How many of you wear foundation every day? or should that be, how many of you DON'T?

I know Twiglett doesn't, and I don't (only for parties). I just don't like it (and I am lucky enough to have good skin - although I have chubby cheeks to counterbalance that so don't hate me )

So do you wear it everyday? from what age, and why?

Pure nosiness...

but it was my new year's res to put a BIT of make up on each day, probably as a result of mumsnet

but the most I usually muster is mascara and lip balm

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/02/2008 11:08

I don't always (I'm 44) it depends on how rough I look on any particular day and where I'm going. I would wear it for work but not the supermarket, and I don't wear it al all in the summer.

yummylittlelapin · 02/02/2008 11:08

wow lulumama, I always picture you as an au naturale Timotei type!

I think lots of women who wear it every day are very adept at applying it. You do see some caked on orange monstrosities though!

there's ways and ways of putting it on isn't there. You see some really nice make up but then you see women (often young) looking like they applied it with a paintbush.
And being an old fogey I find the drawn on eyeliner a la Winehouse not very pretty at all.

yummylittlelapin · 02/02/2008 11:10

at NMC's "burn like a ginger" . As a ginger, I always wear a moisturiser with SPF. I don't do tans, sadly. I do freckles in a big way though!

I splodge some lipgloss on usually, but that's about it. I don't bother with eye make up because you can't see it behind my bloody glasses anyway.

Lulumama · 02/02/2008 11:10

LOL see my profile for the truth ! i;d like to think i am quite groomed, but am probably kidding myself

how can a wabbit wear foundation anyway, wouldn;t it get all clogged up in your fur?

Bellavita · 02/02/2008 11:11

Sorry to hijack the thread - Zippibabes I always thought you were a twenty something! Well you live and learn. I have only been on here a few months but every time I see your name I just think you are a young gal.

Perhaps 50 is the new 20

BettySpaghetti · 02/02/2008 11:11

No , but I do wear a tinted moisturiser most days.

I went through phases of wearing it when I was younger and prone to being really spotty but I'm sure it was a vicious circle of covering up spots with foundation and concealer, getting more spots as a result and then wearing more make-up to cover them and so on.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/02/2008 11:12

I wear light foundation most days. I have good skin but being outdoorsy I can be a bit rosy which needs toning down. I'm also so pale that I need a bit of a lift (not a noticeable colour change though).

I often also use a tanning lotion and a good moisturiser with an SPF, from cleavage to forehead. If I go out bare-faced any moisture in my skin gets stripped out immediately. I need the protective layers!

Probably since I was 20ish.

"IMO only fresh faced 17 year olds can go base free."

It's funny but round here (Cheshire) the 17 year-olds wear more slap than a middle-aged tranny! What a shame that they are gilding their youthful, dewy-skinned lilies.

yummylittlelapin · 02/02/2008 11:13

Picture a rabbit with a Brazilian

Aren't your kids GORGEOUS! And you look very pretty, and mediterranean (are you Italian/spanish?) I always wanted to have dark eyes and olive skin .

I agree with DrNortherner - if people think it clogs up your skin or you can notice it, then they are going wrong somewhere - not using a base, not using the right colour, not using a decent one (cos cheap ones are shit), putting too much on...

Btw, it's apparently best to apply with a brush, not a sponge. I've just ordered a brush - usually use fingers.

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 11:14

sorry to shatter your illusions babe

actually i am frequently under the impression i am younger...

except when laying a mirror on the bed and and leaning over it with no clothes on

Bellavita · 02/02/2008 11:15

Sorry - that sounded like I stalk you.

BettySpaghetti · 02/02/2008 11:15

actually I've noticed that a lot of 17yr olds tend to cake it on too -especially the orange foundation that isn't blended particularly well at the hair-line.

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 11:16

its always mystified me where people learn make up skills

DrNortherner · 02/02/2008 11:16

I wore loads as a teen. If only I knew then what I know now......

BettySpaghetti · 02/02/2008 11:17

zippibabes -a lot pick up tips from plasterers from what I can gather

Lulumama · 02/02/2008 11:19

nope, eastern european heritage here ! but thank you ! the children are divinely gorgeous , i thikn they are mine !

DrNortherner · 02/02/2008 11:19

I studied hotel management at college, and part of that was 'beauty and grooming' It was very important to look groomed front of house

That's where I learnt, also messing about with friends and experimenting with colours and stuff.

massiveNEWpantsface · 02/02/2008 11:19

I don't wear it, if I do I get spots. I do wear a touch of bronzer (not tangerine!) especially if I'm looking a bit worse for wear, and a radiance serum to give my skin a bit of a lift.
Other than that - blusher, eyeliner, mascara and a tinted lip balm. Mascara is my best friend!

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 11:21

mascara looks awful on me...i have very short sparse and fine eye lashes so it looks truly appalling

massiveNEWpantsface · 02/02/2008 11:27

zippi, have you ever had them tinted? that might look more natural, if you wanted them to appear a bit fuller.

Vacua · 02/02/2008 11:28

zippi have you tried (and here I helpfully, instantly forget the name of the product) it's a YSL one, you can keep piling it on without your lashes going all clumpy and stubby - it's called maximum something (I think) and it does make them a bit longer

am sorry but bottom of tube where it says name has worn off - but someone at the YSL counter could advise

have got similar lashes to you btw
