am I the only MNer to hate pockets?

I find that pockets are always right where I least want extra bulk, ie over my breasts (32FF) or hips. Plus in dresses and blazers they quickly sag and pull the drape out of line.
And it's a faff to move things from outfit to outfit vs just having everything in my one (small!) handbag that I can grab and go.
But it seems like everyone else is screaming for them.

I get them sewed up at the alterations place, to remove the bulk on trousers.

jamsandwich1 · 09/12/2022 18:14

Pockets for life!
I honestly hate wearing clothes without pockets now and when I do I start sticking things in my bra!

MissMarplesNiece · 09/12/2022 18:18

I hate clothes without pockets & get annoyed that in women's clothes the pockets are quite small compared to the pockets on men's clothes.

inappropriateraspberry · 09/12/2022 18:19

Not a fan either. If you out anything in them they ruin the line of the clothes, and are never big enough to be truly useful.

SilverGlassHare · 09/12/2022 18:20

I’m not keen on them either. I have a couple of lovely skirts that have back pockets right over my hips, they just make my bum look bigger. It’s annoying.

IglesiasPiggl · 09/12/2022 18:20

Pockets are a disaster for me as a pear shape. I always sew them up - they look like my hips have grown a pair of ears!

CowPie · 09/12/2022 18:22

I loathe breast pockets, as they make me look weirdly matronly, but I like a well-placed skirt pocket. Doesn’t need to be big, but I like to pace when teaching, and I like the slightly confrontational stance it gives me. And I like big coat pockets.

Californianna68 · 09/12/2022 18:33

Hi There:

Some of my clothes, I just cut out the pockets....

Big ass and pockets, don't go together.

Anna

Annabel073 · 09/12/2022 18:49

I hate pockets and anything else that ruins perfect lines.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/12/2022 18:53

There's good pockets and bad pockets. Pockets on the boobs - bad. Big map pocket inside walking coat good. Etc.

LimeCheesecake · 09/12/2022 18:54

It’s just designers are so shit at designing woman’s clothes when working pockets - you don’t get men bemoaning ruined lines and not being able to fit everything in - proper pockets that are deep enough and clothes designed to allow for pockets rather than shove them into the seam of an idea not designed for them.

I love pockets now I work somewhere that I’m not always at my desk - I can’t really be carrying a handbag around with me all the time, so it get locked in my desk drawer and I have phone, a pen and work card thing (needed to open doors and make photocopiers work) in my pockets. I’m always annoyed when I’ve managed to go to work without pockets and have to carry them about (invariably putting down somewhere and having to go fetch them again).

Same!!!

PuttingDownRoots · 09/12/2022 19:04

Depends on what you are wearing and what you are doing. I need lovely big pockets in my work trousers, preferable on the thigh to fit my pen, notebook, phone, pocket knife etc.

Not so necessary in an evening gown.

vipersnest1 · 09/12/2022 19:22

I get really annoyed at clothes with no pockets - I use them to carry stuff around that I don't want to hold!
It's not so essential on casual clothes, but I really appreciate them at work.

WhoppingBigBackside · 09/12/2022 19:32

I don't buy clothes if they don't have pockets, other than things that genuinely shouldn't have pockets like t-shirts.
Similarly, if the pockets aren't going to work for me I don't buy the garment.

cannaethink · 09/12/2022 20:31

I’m another pocket hater! I’ve no need for most of them so sew them up and cut them out of so many clothes.
Pockets on my coats are handy for tissues but that’s about it.
I really hate pyjamas with pockets!

allswellthatends · 09/12/2022 20:48

😂at pockets on pyjamas, yes, I need my lipstick and tissues while I sleep.

On trousers and dresses, I sew them shut too, then cut off the excess fabric from the inside. Maybe slim women can get away with them more.

For situations where I really don't want to carry a bag, I have a phone case on a lanyard with a cardholder at the back (I know, I know, I do put some cards in my phone "wallet" but what if the battery dies????)

Being small of boob I like breast pockets.

I was in M and S earlier today and was happy to see that a lot of their winter coats now have inside pockets. I don't always carry a bag with me and love having an inside pocket to put my phone in.

Stayathomenamechange · 09/12/2022 20:58

I love pockets on jeans, twill trousers, jackets etc, where the fabric has enough weight and structure to take it. I don't like that twee obsession with pockets on everything including thin summer dresses ,"OOH IT HAS POCKETS!" is meant to be a female bonding thing but I'm more "meh" about pockets that'll look weighed down and lumpy.

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 21:01

I’ve no need for most of them so sew them up and cut them out of so many clothes.

That’s what I do too.

MrsKrankyPants · 09/12/2022 21:02

Hate pockets and if I have any, never ever put anything in them.

My mum LOVES pockets and overloads them Grin

Californianna68 · 09/12/2022 21:13

Hi there:

I have 38DDs, so pockets up there are a "No Go".

Anna

Falalalalaaah · 09/12/2022 21:16

Team pockets till I die!

LadyB49 · 09/12/2022 21:20

I hate pockets in side seams. I love patch pockets.

Kiitos · 09/12/2022 23:12

Depends on the garment! I sometimes make my own clothes and will skip the pockets if they make a dress/skirt hang badly or puff out weirdly. Generally I like pockets but they’re not the be all and end all.
