Any interest in a opening/review thread?

I tend to open early.
No photos until after 0700?

Yes you definitely need to be careful in the sun. You should use SPF every day anyway but especially when using retinol. If going on a holiday in the sun stop retinol a week before. Build up usage slowly. So start with twice a week. Generally over the counter retinol products aren’t that strong but some are. The Drunk Elephant one is for instance. Retinol is a long game but is the only scientifically proven anti aging product. Other than sun screen.

MyOtherCarIsAHearse · 04/12/2022 18:10

Since you’re all taking about tret/retinols, I have a question please. Am I okay using vit c the same night as tret or should I use on another night? Got one in another advent but only been using tret (low dose) for a week.

Talisin · 04/12/2022 23:09

I wouldn’t use them together, no. What form is the vit c - serum, cream, etc? Could you use it during the day instead of at night? If not then alternate nights maybe.

PomRuns · 05/12/2022 06:43

Day 5

I have used this before - it’s a good product and a good addition to the AC.

This looks great but I've already got an AHA product on the go so I'll be putting this one away for a while.

PomRuns · 05/12/2022 07:20

I’m a bit random with my skin care - must learn more. Ok to use this with vitamin c?

Good product but the one category of skincare I have tons of is acid exfoliants. This one will have to wait a bit to be used.

Lookingformymarbles · 05/12/2022 07:51

I've just finished up my last bottle of liquid gold so this is well timed

I'm currently using a Kate Somerville face wash which was in another beauty box and am liking it very much so looking forward to using this

Chickydoo · 05/12/2022 07:51

Pleased with this. Not tried it, going to give it a go this morning

TenThousandSpoons · 05/12/2022 08:06

Thank you peridot1 for explaining. I do use tinted moisturiser with factor 20 spf every day. Is that enough? Not that there’s much sun at the moment but I am outside for an hour in the morning in my job. Also good to know about not mixing it with vitamin c.

Peridot1 · 05/12/2022 08:54

I’d use Vit C in the morning and retinol at night.

Added spf in moisturiser isn’t really enough no. You’d have to use tons of it to get proper protection. Much better to use a separate spf. Even in winter here in UK. DH laughs at me putting spf on before walking the dog on grey days here but It’s so ingrained now I can’t do otherwise.

Also be careful using exfoliants and retinol. I wrecked my skin at one stage going too hard with Pixi Glow tonic every day and then adding in the Drunk Elephant retinol. Learn from my mistake! Most people don’t need to exfoliate every day. 2/3 times a week is fine. Especially if you are using retinol.

I haven’t used this product before but like KS products. This is one I’ve been wary of having had a reaction to exfoliators before.

Mrcpy · 05/12/2022 09:25

I used the molton brown shower gel this morning. It’s really nice! Strongly fragranced and refreshing.

It’s a bit of a minefield mixing active products. I use dermatica tretinoin but I’m planning to take a break once this tube is finished. I’d use vitamin C in the morning - but I believe it’s actually fine to mix vitamin C and retinol - but I’d definitely steer clear of exfoliants until I’m off retinol.

pattyparsnip · 05/12/2022 09:25

Heard good things about this but got others to use up first so will put away .

Adventadventures · 05/12/2022 09:31

I have to confess I removed this from the advent a couple of weeks ago as was keen to try it . I really like it. I think it is more of a weekly treatment than a regular daily use as it is quite aggressive . But this is the first product I have ever used where my DH has commented about my skin afterwards . He said my skin was glowing and it looked like I was wearing makeup so I was really chuffed and will probably be buying again if this continues . Let me know what everyone else thinks

PomRuns · 05/12/2022 11:20

I don’t think I’m using anything with retinol will check. PM I use Clarins serum.

It is quite a harsh product for some. Some discussion about it in the General Advent calendar thread. I won’t be using it on my face I don’t think as I have sensitive skin.

Dailymash · 05/12/2022 12:12

This was the first morning I felt was a bit anti-climatic, I already use a (gentle) exfoliant twice a week. ‘Intensive’ makes me a bit wary! Reminds me of when I was dating someone who often commented on how soft and smooth my skin was so I showed him the body scrub I used. It was a really coarse scrub but he went out and bought some and scrubbed his face with it Shock Poor guy, I didn’t think to explain not to use body scrub on your face.

Anyway, this is £24 which takes our running total to £99.

On the topic of SPF I use Nuxe SPF 50 if I’m working outside or going for a run. Another beauty advent calendar winner from a few years ago that I replaced once it was used up. Definitely a good purchase!

Giftwithpurchase · 05/12/2022 12:39

Posted on the general thread but really not keen on todays offering. I've had it lots in the past and it's too harsh for me. I use it on tops of my arms!

Adventadventures · 05/12/2022 13:47

Interesting comments I think I must have the skin of a rhino as Exfolikate works really well for me.

And day 4

Thank you muchly @PomRuns 💐

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 05/12/2022 22:02

I like Kate Somerville products. Probably overpriced for an exfoliant, but a nice luxury product. I’d moved away from these type of exfoliant but they are the only kind that really work on my skin.
