The proper colourful 1980s ones.

That would be A. Ma. Zing. I got mine down Gloucester cattle market, back in the day... Dh wasn't allowed one because they were a fire hazard, still thinks he was deprived today 😂

TheFarawayNearby · 24/11/2022 22:30

I bloody hope not.

justasking111 · 24/11/2022 22:32

Hope not I was forever sewing them back up the seams would split, fray, they were a nightmare. Not suitable for rough and tumble boys

Byelaws · 24/11/2022 22:32

Hilarious. Please yes. I mean I won’t wear one but I would love them to come back. Especially the matching family ones.

Freefromeverything · 24/11/2022 22:34

I loved mine. Think it was 1991/92. Begged and begged for it from Tammy girl. It was hideous but at the time I thought life couldn’t get any better and that I looked absolutely amazing- photo evidence from the time is vastly different to my memories as in fact I looked like a highly flammable lilac white and pink miniature PE teacher

Janedoe82 · 24/11/2022 22:37

I was never allowed one. Still annoys me that a girl in my class had three lol

AnonWeeMouse · 24/11/2022 22:38

They'd be against health and safety rules regarding fire safety these days..
They only have to get within 23 1/2 feet of a flame and Whoosh!
Melty melty everywhere..

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia · 24/11/2022 22:39

I bloody hope not. God bless my mum for not letting me have one the first time round.

mitsy5 · 24/11/2022 22:42

Bottle green and purple mine was……lovely!🤣

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/11/2022 22:43

I hope not lol, they were a fire hazard. The amount of times i burn't mine with a fag.

Rockingcloggs · 24/11/2022 22:44

1992 we went on our first cruise - P&Os Canberra. I was 9 and my sister 13. When we boarded the ship the 4 of us - mum, dad, sister and me all had matching shell suits! My mums was green, dads navy, sisters purple and mine pink! We must have looked like right nobheads but I remember feeling Uber cool in mine!

AnImaginaryCat · 24/11/2022 22:47

I think they are aren't they? Least the top bit of them are.

I never had one. Well I refused to wear them so I could avoid it melting onto me. Obviously very rational thought process and my friends considered me sane for my reasoning. You can blame an episode of Casualty for that fear 🤣.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 24/11/2022 22:49

Mine was pink with green and black elbow and knee stripes 😳

My mate burnt a cigarette hole in my left knee; I can't believe I never went up in a blaze!

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 24/11/2022 22:51

Hope not! They were awful! 😩 Especially when coupled with a mullet! 😂

Dragonskin · 24/11/2022 22:51

Mine was white with purple and green patches on the shoulders and ankles, I also had LA gears with purple and green laces.

Match that little lot with a crimped high side pony and I was cooooooool 🤣

Dragonskin · 24/11/2022 22:53

Clearly photos proved otherwise (but in my defence I was 13!)

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/11/2022 22:54

I bloody hope not. Even when they were the height of fashion it was the worst Christmas gift I've ever had. Awful 🤣

Mine was also purple and green and I also had crimped hair on a side pony but did you have jelly shoes? I obviously looked a twat but clearly thought otherwise! Why did my mum and dad let em leave the house 😆

They were! We used Bunsen burners to set them on fire in science class, a soldering iron could also cause serious damage.

God I miss those days.

cleanfreak12345 · 24/11/2022 23:13

They are still very common in Liverpool

TaylorZwift · 24/11/2022 23:17

I was in a vintage clothing shop in Derby a few weeks ago, very trendy and popular with students. They had a whole rack of shell suits. Not a good look. I haven’t seen any in the wild yet but am sure only a matter of time.

PicturesOfDogs · 24/11/2022 23:21

I think they kind of already are. Seen a lot of 90s bright ‘fresh Prince’ type of stuff going around.
As well as silky combat style bottoms. But it seems to be a thicker material/not as flammable 🤣

I’m from derby! Where is this shop, I need to visit 😆😆😆

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 25/11/2022 14:01

They did have a moment about a year or so ago. Lots of them suddenly appearing in vintage stores.

I’m afraid they always remind me of 1980s David Ike.

DialsMavis · 25/11/2022 14:10

I have been wondering this too!
I wasn't allowed one as my mum thought they were "common" 🙄
Then my Dad bought me one when they were getting divorced, probably to spite her 😂
Then I had a cast off from one of her friends DC as by then she was skint and beggars couldn't be choosers
