The proper colourful 1980s ones.

I remember my aunt spilling her glass of wine on my new shell suit on the first day I wore it. I cried. 😄

I’m from derby! Where is this shop, I need to visit 😆😆😆

On Sadlergate opposite Escape clothing (which is a new shop occupying where Joules was), can’t remember the name of the vintage shop. Photos please if you make it!

My colleague lost her mother in a shellsuit related fire. I've got lands end trousers that are similar, i believe they're known as wind pants in the US.

Plump82 · 25/11/2022 16:31

I had a shell suit that matched my roller boots. White with black and coral splashes. I adored it.

LoobyDop · 25/11/2022 17:06

I’ve been seeing the odd one around for a while, I couldn’t work out if they were “back” or “still”. Makes me glad I was a photo refuser as a teenager.

astronewt · 25/11/2022 17:10

Mine with purple with aqua flashes on the shoulder!

It was my 8th birthday present, and photographic evidence of me wearing it to my party survives. 😄

frenchnoodle · 25/11/2022 17:12

Let's hope so! Imagine all the things that amount of static elecricity could power in this time of crisis.

DuchessOfSausage · 25/11/2022 17:12

What do you mean 'come back'? Did they ever fall out of fashion?

Dougieowner · 25/11/2022 17:14

Never owned one or wanted one.

They are one of those fads that even at the time I could see they were a bad idea and would not get better with the passage of time.
Glad to see I was proved correct! 😱😁

DD is 21 and buys “vintage” things, some of which look suspiciously like the top of a shell suit. They might be 80s ski tops though, I’m not sure.

Just 2 words. Jimmy Saville

SnowyPheasants · 25/11/2022 18:38

Was never a fan and never knew anyone who wore one, but if I'd guess they were better quality than what's in the shops now, lol. Such is the state of things out there.

Fizbosshoes · 25/11/2022 18:41

I was pretty sure they had made some sort of comeback. Along with mullets

MalbecMakesMeHappy · 25/11/2022 18:45

They are! I work in a uni and i see quite a few uber trendy students wearing them.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 25/11/2022 18:47

Quite a few Gen Zs have mullets these days.

Flooper · 25/11/2022 18:49

Loads of trendy student types near me wearing shell suit tops.

Nat6999 · 25/11/2022 19:29

I had the matching one that my football team had for the league Cup final, blue, white & gold.

MoreRainbowsPlease · 25/11/2022 19:35

I was another one who was never allowed one due the the fire risk. I was so jealous of my cousins who had 2 each. I only had a ra-ra skirt because my Nan bought me it for my birthday. My Mum disliked a lot of the 80's fashions!

SeasonFinale · 25/11/2022 19:35

They already did about 3 or 4 years ago and were all the thing at festivals

SheCameRoundAMountain · 25/11/2022 19:36

I would love to see my teen girls in those, it would make my decade.

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 25/11/2022 19:40

I think they've been & gone love.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/11/2022 19:56

They’re massive again. I spend hours in vintage shops looking at the monstrosities with Dd16.

And to make it worse, l was a designer in late 80’s/early 90’s. I designed 1000’s of the fuckers I hated them!

TattiePants · 25/11/2022 22:10

At age 14-15 I should have stuck a big fire warning sign across my back! Between my shell suit, trainer boots and permed and backcombed hair that was doused in Elnett, I was a walking fire hazard.

EllaPaella · 25/11/2022 22:17

I was tween in early 90's. My Mum point blank refused to buy me a shell suit but I managed to persuade my Gran to buy me one on a trip to the Merryhill centre one summer holiday I was staying with her while my parents were on holiday. Omg that was the best day of my life and I still remember it now 😁 Purple, blue and green. I wore it with my LA gear pumps, the ones you could pump up the tongues 🤣 I thought i was so so cool.
