Do people really get a manicure every 2 weeks?

I'd like to start looking after my hands and nails a bit better. My usual salon charges £35 for a manicure with gel nails, which look nice for a couple of weeks. If I keep on top of it, that's £70-£105 a month just on nails.

Do normal people really spend that much every month on nails? I know I could do nail filing etc. at home (and do) but cuticle care is beyond me.

I only know one person who does this (manicure and pedicure) but I wouldn't be able to afford that on a regular basis

Swissnotswiss · 04/11/2022 12:01

What care do cuticles need??? But to answer your question : no!

otherwayup · 04/11/2022 12:04

I get my nails done every 3 weeks and it's £27 at my salon.

It's my one 'luxury' I cut my own hair and use Aldi or primark skincare and make up, so although I love getting dressed up etc everyday, everything I wear or use is cheap!

AuntieMarys · 04/11/2022 12:06

I used to get gell nails every 2 weeks ( £23 a time) and a full manicure every 2 months ( 30)
Not any more!!!

PlasticSheetingRTÉNews · 04/11/2022 12:06

I do. Depending on what my work schedule is like (I travel a bit for work so not always near the salon I go to), it can sometimes be 3 weeks.

I pay €43 per gel manicure.

GoodnightJude1 · 04/11/2022 12:09

I get my nails done every 2-3 weeks depending on when I can fit it in. I never used to bother with nails (I was a nurse) as I couldn’t have them long or painted so it’s still a bit of a novelty for me.

dreamcatchmee · 04/11/2022 12:11

I spend £27 every 3 weeks to have my gel nails done. It is expensive, but makes me feel happy.

Doingmybest12 · 04/11/2022 12:15

Not for me. I am pleased the nail thing is reducing a bit, was beginning to feel under dressed all the time. I guess different people enjoy different things but I couldn't justify that expense even though I can afford it.

TheMoops · 04/11/2022 12:18

I pay £28 every 3-4 weeks. I love them and as long as I can afford it I'll continue

Worriedddd · 04/11/2022 12:20

Nope I can do my own but I don't bother working in healthcare. Much prefer spending that money on Botox or my hair lol.

Aintnosupermum · 04/11/2022 12:23

Yes I do but I do it myself at home. It’s $40 for a mani pedi in the outskirts of nyc but I moved and it’s now $65 just for a pedi. A mani is $45. There is tip on top of that too.

I could afford to do this but it’s just ridiculous to waste money like that.

Toomuchleopard · 04/11/2022 12:25

I pay £27 every 3 weeks to get gel nails done. For that they remove the old gel, file and shape the nails, trim cuticles and redo the gel.

Smearywindowsagain · 04/11/2022 12:27

I pay £25 every 3-4 weeks

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/11/2022 12:28

I have my nails done every 4 weeks and it's about £30-£40 depending on what kind of design how many different colours etc.

minticecreamisjustok · 04/11/2022 12:30

I used to but now I have a cleaner, my nails are stronger so I've stopped going to the salon.
I wfh now so people no longer have to see my hands anymore.

astarsheis · 04/11/2022 12:31

Every three weeks because mine are Gel Builder which is stronger than normal gel.
Hair every four weeks.
Eyebrows as and when
Thats my lot. No extra preening out of house.

ellsbells5 · 04/11/2022 12:33

I've saved a fortune by doing my own and buying my own gel nail set. I do then usually weekly (because I get bored of the colour) and I push the cuticles back and shape my nails. You can get cuticle tools. Watch a few simple YouTube videos and you'll get the hang of it quickly.

MrsTimRiggins · 04/11/2022 12:35

Well, I used to get mine done every three weeks, acrylics at £35 odd a time. I’d also get my lash extensions done and my eyebrows threaded and tinted at the same time so was spending about £70 a time? At a guess. I was young and fancy free and earning pretty well so why not?
But then I got engaged and was saving for a wedding. Then we saved to go travelling, then we saved for our baby, then we had the baby and so life goes.

NancyJoan · 04/11/2022 12:35

Every three, but yes I do. £32 a time. I could buy the lamp etc and do them myself, but I enjoy having them done.

However, I very much doubt cuticle care is beyond you.

Ekátn · 04/11/2022 12:38

Mine is £22 to £30 every 3 to 5 weeks. I rarely go up to the 5 week mark though.

It’s usually depends on how busy I am

MissMaple82 · 04/11/2022 12:39

I can get 4 weeks out of my gel nails, if they use builder gel. Possibly even 5 !

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 04/11/2022 12:43

I use to get a gel manicure done every 3 weeks at about £30 a time. I got a kit and now do it all at home. Much more convenient as the only nail technician I liked was a 30 minute drive.

NoraButty · 04/11/2022 12:47

I’ve just started to get mine done every three weeks, £28 for shape, cuticles, builder gel and colour.

I’m getting divorced, and this along with regular hair appointment is cheaper than therapy 😌

TheDogsMother · 04/11/2022 12:47

Mani every 3 weeks £28. Pedi every six week.

TeeBee · 04/11/2022 12:48

Yep, get mine done every 3 weeks. Pedi maybe every other month.
