Do people really get a manicure every 2 weeks?

I'd like to start looking after my hands and nails a bit better. My usual salon charges £35 for a manicure with gel nails, which look nice for a couple of weeks. If I keep on top of it, that's £70-£105 a month just on nails.

Do normal people really spend that much every month on nails? I know I could do nail filing etc. at home (and do) but cuticle care is beyond me.

Nope! Haven't time.

What care do cuticles need??? But to answer your question : no!

Maybe not cuticles, but the skin around my nails gets ragged and the nails start coming away around the edges.

When I used to, I was going in once a month. Now I don't due to COL. I have my own set, I just prefer having nails done in the salon, but it's not the best time for me financially.

No499 · 04/11/2022 13:27

Yes, I get mine done every 2-3 weeks.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/11/2022 13:27

I get mine done every 3 weeks. It is my one luxury and I'm not giving it up!

Minikievs · 04/11/2022 13:29

I get gel polish every 3 weeks. It's £15 including soak off. £12 without.
That's cheap, so I don't begrudge it, but I am feeling the pinch.
I can just afford £22.50 a month but I couldn't afford a manicure every three weeks!

Swedishmeatball · 04/11/2022 13:29

£22 fortnightly just for gel Polish change. My cuticles aren’t too bad

PurplePixies · 04/11/2022 13:32

No.

I used to but then developed an allergy to the products they used which means I can’t have certain medical procedures because methacrylates (in all gel and acrylic nail products) are also in a lot of other common things including bone repairing cement. ☹️

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/11/2022 13:33

I do my own to keep expenses down but love a salon mani.

Gel is too damaging so I stick to old-school.

Swampthing55 · 04/11/2022 13:35

I try to go three weeks if I can but it starts to look a mess. My oh taught himself to do it during lockdown but doesn't want to continue

PolkaDotMankini · 04/11/2022 13:35

I hope you'll never need any bone repairs @PurplePixies!

I don't really care about having colours. I like having gels done but hate taking them off and the salon doesn't do soak-offs. I just want my nails in good nick. Manicures without polish are cheaper (£22.50) but that's still £50-£70 a month.

I have one friend who does this, and another who does her own.

that’s literally it. Way too expensive. I prefer natural nails personally, good job since it’s so much cheaper

defi · 04/11/2022 13:37

I used to have acrylics or biab. but sadly no more due to cost of living. Tried to stretch to 3 weeks but my nails grow too much.

Herejustforthisone · 04/11/2022 13:41

Worriedddd · 04/11/2022 12:20

Nope I can do my own but I don't bother working in healthcare. Much prefer spending that money on Botox or my hair lol.

Same. I can do my own nails and I’d much rather spend my money on fabulous injectables and hair.

Saying that, I splurge on skin and hair care too, so I might as well just get my nails done.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 04/11/2022 13:44

Gel nails only last 10 days max on me, my nails must grow fast! I don't have the time to get my nails done that often! I paint my own once a week, in front of the TV. Still go to the hairdresser every six weeks though.

NeedleWielder · 04/11/2022 13:48

I have mine done every two weeks without fail. I used to bite my nails to the quick so I love having “good” nails now!

Madamecastafiore · 04/11/2022 13:59

I drag it out to every three weeks. Love having nice short clean shiny nails.

EvAlSa · 04/11/2022 14:03

£22 every 3 weeks here. They make me smile and are well worth it.

I dye my own hair.. but I also get a full body wax once per month at £50 a go.

I also get laser hair removal on my face at £75 per monthly session.

I'm a very lazy person tbh.

EvAlSa · 04/11/2022 14:03

Oh £200 on Botox every 4 months too..

I'm a very ordinary looking person, but I work outdoors and need all the help I can get 😂

Lyricallie · 04/11/2022 14:05

I'm every three weeks (or there about). I'm £27 per set of gels or gel infill. I like it as I feel a bit more put together but I don't have that many expenses and fairly high paying job. If either of these were to change this would be the first thing to go.

Superwash · 04/11/2022 14:09

I seem to know lots of people apparently on ordinary incomes who have nails, eyelashes, eyebrows and other beauty treatments on a regular basis. I know it's about priorities and they must sacrifice something else, but it's beyond me how they do it too.

wibblewobbleball · 04/11/2022 14:10

I used to, and have a pedicure once a month too. My mind is blown now on how I used to afford it to be honest! It was £25 for a gel mani here now it's £36. No way would I be doing that now.

passport123 · 04/11/2022 14:13

I had my nails done for my wedding, 20 years ago.
Staggered by how much people here spend on this stuff.

youlightupmyday · 04/11/2022 14:20

Manicure every week ( normal.polish)
Pedicure every fortnight( normal polish)
Face threading every fortnight
Roots done every three weeks
Full leg and full bikini wax every four weeks

Didiplanthis · 04/11/2022 14:20

I've never had them done 😳... I'm utterly crap at painting my own too.. I gave no idea why I am so bad at it but I get it all over the skin... i suspect my dyspraxia is to blame... I could never colour neatly in the lines either !
