@monsteramunch it's stunning isn't it. You could wear with tights, ankle boots and leather jacket for a more casual look too so a really versatile piece

@Reearry

Beautiful saffiano leather RL:

Whistles do a great line of accessories which often get overlooked- love this style

Love this style as a fun option, slightly over budget but you get 10% off your first order:https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/loeffler-randall/bags/cross-body/rayne-bow-embellished-plisse-organza-clutch/45666037505176094?cmmmc=Google-ProductSearch-UKKm-mNAPINTLLENUKKLondonPLA---NAP+-+INTL+-+London+-+GS+-+SSC+-+What%27s+New+-+ClothingWhat%27s+New+-+ClothingINTL&gbraid=0AAAAADRhZnvGLdUmtT5qSgt2WVDM8kajn&gbraid=0AAAAADRhZnvGLdUmtT5qSgt2WVDM8kajn&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItduRhumZ-wIVR9DtCh146QLTEAQYEyABEgLUtvDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

@Midnightbluehotpink if you're going to wear them together which makes a great colour combo, I'd stick with the jewel tones and wear with a navy floral dress. The pink of the floral print will compliment the tights.

This is also a fun print: www.omnes.com/collections/dresses/products/millicent-tea-dress-in-seascape-with-lenzingâ„¢-ecoveroâ„¢

And I love this as v bold option https://scampanddude.com/products/ladies-short-sleeve-midi-dress-blue-with-pink-star-and-lightning-bolt?variant=40683185340595&currency=GBP&utmmedium=producttsync&utmsource=google&utmmcontent=sagorganic&utmmcampaign=sagorganic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2dmDvu2Z-wIVnIBQBh24yAmDEAQYDiABEgLJcfDDBwE

Or for a completely different look, you could colour block with something like this https://www.omnes.com/collections/dresses/products/hebe-midi-dress-in-teal-with-recycled-polyester which sits in the same jewel tones palette so would sit well together

@Ironfloor269 great question. I'm going to post a few different inspo ideas as I think this crosses over with a few other questions asked here such as how to style wide leg jeans and i think these are great off duty looks

I am going to a wedding just after Christmas and am stumped as to what to wear. Do you have any stylish ideas for a 50 something slim size 12. Average height? Can't wear heels due to a medical problem. Would be grateful for some inspiration!

marlowe5 · 06/11/2022 22:12

frillseeking · 04/11/2022 23:13

@marlowe5 have a look at this article. Lots of different options and the model is 5'2 so good for you to compare

www.whowhatwear.co.uk/best-high-street-leather-trousers/slide5

Thank you. I love the first couple of pairs. (I'm still so unconvinced about M and S and their ankle grazers. For women of my height I think they just make people look squat!)

frillseeking · 07/11/2022 09:01

@H1Drangea as you don't like wearing trousers, I'd go for a smart day dress. Three quite different looks here as I don't know your style etc but they'd all look suitable for a celebratory lunch. The first style is from a brand called Jolie Moi which I'd really recommend for dresses. Most of their styles are in a very thick jersey material so super flattering on and good quality. Lots of different prints and variations of the day dress of leopard is not your thing! They've styled with a strappy shoe but you could pair with a little ankle boot for a more casual feel or a low heel pointed court shoe for a more classic look if you're going somewhere smarter.

The second style from Oliver Bonas would look fab with a boot underneath and a faux fur coat for a dressed up Bohemian vibe. It would also look fab with a faux fur gilet but equally you could pair with a black blazer and boot to make it more formal/classic.

The third style is a classic, easy non print day dress which I've included as it's a great price from matalan, where you can find some fab pieces. The slightly puff sleeve and d ring belt are nice little added details. This would look great with a little boucle jacket and a smart sock boot. Hope that helps for some ideas!

Some fab ideas so far!
I'm going to a wedding reception beginning of December. It’s in a hotel. I’m late 30s, reasonable sized boobs and a bit of a mum tum that’s prone to bloating. Struggle with heels due to arthritis. 5’6 12-14 (bigger on top). Don’t have much of a budget 😬

theshadeofgreen · 07/11/2022 10:09

Op, are tights awful?
I'm not a fan of my legs and love the dress/boots combo but should tights be work wardrobe only?

I've got a few daytime hen dos, baby showers etc coming up and don't know if black tights are still ok?!

If so, should they be thick and solid black or more sheer black?

Thank you!

Suggestions please for a 22 year old looking for her first grown up Christmas party dress. She covers the tight fitting black velvet dress that I wore in the 90s but she is much slighter than I was. She is a size 6, 5' 6", decent bust as long as she can wear a bra so nothing backless. Sophisticated sexy, not slutty. Hardest criteria: must be cheap, probably up to £30.

Heartstopper · 07/11/2022 10:37

covets

frillseeking · 07/11/2022 11:20

@rennieroo I think New Look do that end of the market so well at a really reasonable price range. I think the jewelled colours and luxe fabrics such as satin and velvet are perfect for a winter wedding. I love all three of the styles below and I'd go for a shoe like this at £20 www.asos.com/prd/202686787?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Also love these two from the brands section at Matalan:

Love this thread for ideas.

Re no to skinny jeans/jeggings, this is all I wear as I’ve yet to find any other style that looks nice. I have big thighs and mum jeans accentuate the size of them! Any suggestions?

H1Drangea · 07/11/2022 12:16

Thanks @frillseeking

frillseeking · 07/11/2022 13:31

@H1Drangea you could also wear a nice skirt with a blazer or smart piece of knitwear.

Love this mint velvet one but here it's styled casually. Swap the leather jacket for a blazer and you've got a really smart, pulled together look

@SunlightThroughTrees good question as lots of women struggle with cankles and there are some simple tips to help flatter the ankle area. The number one rule is to avoid any ankle straps as this will cut the leg in half and draw attention to the area. A pointed toe elongates so this would be a good option for a flat shoe, especially in a nude colour as this helps to lengthen the leg even more. For boots, go for something longer as an ankle boot will only draw attention to the area. Also avoid trousers that are cropped or capri length or anything tapered- something slightly wide leg or flared will be much more flattering and balance out your calves to ankle.

@Wheelyweddingwipedout Go for something belted or with a shaped waist to emphasise your figure and I'd look for a petite fit as coats can come up big at the best of times and if the coat is too long it will drown your shape

@theshadeofgreen tights are definitely ok outside of the work place. Kylie Jenner stepped out in wolfords classic 50 deniers recently and Beyoncé wore some cool spot and fishnet designs for her recent album promo so you can guarantee we'll be seeing more of them soon as the love for hosiery kick starts every autumn winter. Do you have any pics of your outfit? As this determines what sort of denier you should go for really.
