That all sounds really great. Thank you @frillseeking for some ideas. I’m going to have a real sort through my wardrobe as it’s fit to bursting but with nothing I really wear apart from the aforementioned jeans and Breton! I find putting outfits together quite hard, but I’m determined to try and be a bit more stylish!

Hoping spring will be easier to be a bit more creative with my wardrobe because I’m just shoving on lots of layers to combat the cold atm!
Honestly thank you so much door giving me some inspiration!

Sooverthemill · 17/01/2023 07:17

Oh and I'm looking for a scarf! I have loads of light beck sondergard giant ones but fancy a wool traditional shape scarf. Merino or cashmere or synthetic no mohair I trued a ganni one and died of the itchiness

blondie87 · 17/01/2023 07:24

Oh and if you could attach the pictures of the items you mentioned @frillseeking that would be great 😊
Thank you!

Here you go @blondie87, not sure what happened there!

Thank you so much! @frillseeking

frillseeking · 17/01/2023 07:46

@blondie87 definitely have a good look at what you've already got first and then start by adding in one or two things which will give you a refresh. Spring is always a good time to start anew though because you've got so much more scope to experiment with colours and different styles. I think most of us do tend to stick to a bit of a uniform on these cold wintery days!

@TunnocksTCake H&M and zara are good for longer leg gals. I really like blogger Olivia Laura for tall style inspo, she's definitely worth a follow. I've attached two styles she always wears that look great.

@frillseeking thank you so much for the recommendations, I will try them and report back! I never thought to try H&M or Zara I always assume they will be too short!

On another note I bought the Zara blazer you recommended a while back and love it but the shoulder pads stick out past shoulders... too big or too small or just the style? They are quite big shoulder pads... Don't think I could go smaller and still do it up... any others I could try? I'm a size 10 on top but busty!

Omg I just spent 2 hours reading this fab thread! You are so so kind giving up your time to give such amazing advice. I have a question. I'm 5 foot 1 and love the wide leg trouser/ trainer look. However this winter I've really struggled to find a warm coat to wear that doesn't swamp me. I find long coats just make me look huge! Any advice?
Also, I have sensory issues when it comes tp clothes and can't abide leggings or jeans. Any casual/school run type outfit suggestions that are both stylish and comfortable?

frillseeking · 30/01/2023 20:33

Sorry I've not been on ladies, had to abandon the thread for a few weeks!

@TunnocksTCake it looks great on you but I think it's not sitting quite right. How did it look with the button undone? Something like the attached style might work better for a more relaxed fit. Did you try any jeans?

@Feckinlego I'm not sure what style of coat you're after so I've linked two different styles. For a casual style, this type of puffer style would work New Look petitee*. Obviously make sure you're buying from a petite range and something belted will give you shape. A lot of the coats this year are super sized and super long so they can easily drown you like you say. This style for example comes down to knee length whereas a lot of the coats are to the floor.
At the other end of the spectrum style and price wise, this petite Reiss style is mid length and slim fitting with seam detailing. Will have a look at school run outfits

Hi @frillseeking glad you’re back! Any tips for the perfect white T-shirt? Pear shape size 14 quite chunky arms hate T-shirts that are tight on my arms. I did order a cos one that was being raved about but didn’t suit me a bit too boxy maybe? Looking for just a decent quality white T-shirt I do suit a structured shoulder to balance my hips but it doesn’t need to work that hard as I can later but can’t find a nice one that isn’t see through or just a bit naff

itsmeagainagain · 30/01/2023 23:27

Can layer that should say

@Feckinlego a smart but casual tracksuit is always handy for the school run. I've got this zara one in several colours and really rate it. I was also thinking of a cargo trouser? These are really on trend at the moment and the high street are now doing them in a wearable way (to start with I was unsure how to wear as the youngsters were wearing with crop tops like we did back in the day!)

Hi, hope you can help as I'm stuck in such a rut. Used to be stylish and a bit edgy but have lost confidence. My youngest was born a few months before we entered the first lockdown and I ended up never really losing the weight. Now im perimenopausal and my waist has disappeared. I consequently live in black lulu lemon leggings that pull my gut in and long black baggy tops. Always look frumpy but haven't had courage to buy anything different.

I'm 5'9" and a size 16. I used to be fairly straight up and down, but now I have big matronly breasts that I don't know how to dress. My worst bit is my mid section - particularly the below belt line fat. It means I can't wear any tops that fall above my hip line (which is hard with current fashions, which all seem to be cropped or tucked in).

Any ideas for day outfits? Maybe something i could dress up a bit if meeting friends.

Feckinlego · 04/02/2023 14:03

Thank you so much @frillseeking that's superb advice.

frillseeking · 04/02/2023 21:34

@BlackFlyChardonnay do you feel confident showing your legs? This shape is really good for hiding a tummy and the v would work well with for your bust- https://www.mintvelvet.co.uk/products/gloria-print-tiered-mini-dress. They've styled with a leather jacket which is great for layering and for pulling the look together.

For every day, I'd upgrade your leggings to a pair of comando leather leggings and style with something like this https://www.next.co.uk/style/st698862/c42736?dp=a&dndl=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAofieBhDXARIsAHTTldrdevF6rBJ9oYYwRz-WUy9pyhWvBtbrWBh6grGi6p3Jy2amAXzSApAaApaFEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#c42736

And for when you need something to throw on with the kids. what about changing up your leggings to something a bit more trendy and investing in a pair of on trend trainers https://www.sweatybetty.com/shop/bottoms/leggings/power-7-8-gym-leggings--SB5400BlueCheetahPrintt78Length.html?dwvarSB5400BlueCheetahPrint78Lengthhcolor=bluecheetahprint&dwvarSB5400BlueCheetahPrint78Lengthhleg-length=78length&cgid=&tile=6.0&oldpid=SB5400BlueCheetahPrintt78Length#q=Leopard%20leggings&start=6&sz=24

@BlackFlyChardonnay this is tucked in but if you can see from some of the images this is a longer line blouse with a v neck which again is good for the bust and the ruched sleeve gives a nice shape to the sleeve www.hush-uk.com/alvia-blouse-speckled-dots-hot-pink/006200-4291.html

Thanks :) I've ordered the hush blouse and mint velvet dress to try xxx

frillseeking · 05/02/2023 10:05

@BlackFlyChardonnay fab, they would have been my top picks. The blouse you could dress up or down so it's a handy piece to have in the wardrobe and I really hope you like the dress as that's shape really easy to throw on and great for your shape. Please report back!
