@Sooverthemill that's an exciting weekend away! Have a fab time.

A lot of the sale bargains have been snapped up but I love this Reiss coat linkk* here. This would great dressed up for evening with heels and a dress but would equally look really cool with jeans and trainers. Love that high/low look which is perfect for Paris. If budget allows there are some great pieces from Sandro, Me and Em and jigsaw but these are around the £300 mark.

If you're looking to spend a little less, Zara and H&M have some great options. Images attached.

In terms of trainers, I'd go for a classic veja pump as I think they just go with everything and always look smart. Or if you want something more trendy then you can't go wrong with the adidas samba style which I've mentioned on here before.

I shared some designer Mary Janes earlier in the week but I just wanted to share these high street options from Zara and Oliver Bonas. These are going to be huge this year

lost some weight (now size 16 apple 50+ year old) and want to start enjoying what i wear rather than covering up and vanishing. i love the casual rock look kind of vibe - is that a look even :) - you know, wide leg trousers, band t-shirt, blazer - something that looks like you have just thrown it on but it still looks stylish. My wardrobe doesn't resemble this and need to know where to start and what brands are best to look at. Thanks

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 14/01/2023 16:38

I quite like those shoes, I wore things like that around 2006. Ballet pumps never stayed on my feet so I wore flat pretty mary janes. They always felt perfect for work so I'd be happy if they were back! My office clothes are far more casual now though (I used to wear blouses and pencil skirts!).

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2023 17:27

@frillseeking thank you. I have several pairs of Veja so will try some on with the outfits I think I'm taking ( May book an online with you). I like th eReiss coat a lot and have also looked at me+em), [[https://www.johnlewis.com/hobbs-peggy-check-belted-coat-navy-multi/p109678808?deepLink=false hobbs and sezane? Considered a curated boyfriend but fear it will be too oversized.

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2023 17:34

Oh or this from jigsaw? I don't mind it being a bit expensive I don't own another full length wool coat and I'd get something that would last years. Preference before I buy them all?!

frillseeking · 15/01/2023 10:02

@Sooverthemill love the Sezane one. Personally I'd go for that or the Reiss one. The Me & Em style is gorgeous but it looks like quite a 'bobbly' boucle fabric which can pill or pull quite easily, even if it's the best quality of fabrics, it's just the nature of the fabric.

This was the Sandro one linkk* and I also just wanted to show you this &other stories one which has become one of their best sellers link.

@Iwasntgettingasandwich this is how I'd style them. They'd equally look great with a dress or chic midi skirt

@cathyandclare gorgeous dress, it looks great. Hopefully you'll be able to get away without wearing anything but I'd wear a soft tailored blazer draped over the shoulders for a bit of extra coverage. This is a more modern option to a pashmina or boxy jacket

Many thanks for the guidance, all the pictures look great, I’ll have a good trying on session. As a very short hourglass I sometimes struggle with looking boxy in soft tailoring, but draping it seems to avoid that problem.

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 15/01/2023 13:06

Frillseeking, I think I might be a little bit in love with you! Grin

Sooverthemill · 15/01/2023 13:39

@frillseeking thank you! I've ordered the &otherstories one ( seems like a straight dupe of the Sézane), the Reiss and a jigsaw and a whistles coat! Yikes.I've not had a military coat since the eighties so that will be interesting. I'm really looking forward to put outfits together now.

Sooverthemill · 15/01/2023 13:41

Oh and if the & otherstories one is anything like good on me I may order the Sézane to compare cut and quality

blondie87 · 15/01/2023 14:36

Hi @frillseeking I have been absolutely loving this thread- you are so generous with your time!

I’d be grateful if you have any tips. Mid-30s, young kids and stuck in a bit of mum uniform rut of Breton and jeans. I work PT from home so never have the need to look smart in the week, but wouldn’t mind a bit of a wardrobe refresh with a few key pieces. I usually take a petit in trouser length and I’m a size 8/10. Thank you!

Nolosomi · 15/01/2023 16:02

@Sooverthemill sorry to jump in, but I just bought this coat from Arket, it’s gorgeous. I saw it on someone and tracked it down. It’s got splits at the sides and looks great with everything! It’s not a very cold weather coat as double faced but is beautiful quality and I’ll just wear a thicker jumper underneath on a colder day. I’m a size 10 & got the 36 - 38 pops back into stock at times. The side splits (not ridiculously long) really elevate it.

Hi @frillseeking I have replied to your email, thank you!

I started a thread looking for a cardi but no luck so far so copying here incase anyone recognises it.

I saw a woman at center parcs this week wearing a fab cardi. I was going to ask where it was from but was wrangling a 1 year old and when I turned round she was gone 😭

It was a long flufflyish cardi with thin stripes and Chanel style cream or white collar and pockets. It was really classy and cool looking and I am desperate to find it. My googling hasn't resulted in any luck so hoping someone recognises it.

Thanks🤞

Sooverthemill · 15/01/2023 16:44

@Nolosomi ooh that’s nice! I’ve ordered 5! coats today so I will see what I think of those before ordering that one. It looks gorgeous ( photo on you?) x

frillseeking · 15/01/2023 23:32

@Usernameismyname01 I think this is something that Mint Velvet do really well. But also have a look at M&S, Next and Hush. I've done a quick inspo boards of looks from there which I think would work.

@Usernameismyname01 I came across a couple of bits this morning as well. They are rather bold but I just love these pink side stripe trousers from M&S. They have them in more muted colours and they're a style they repeat every season as they're a great shape and easy to pull on and go.
I also came across this cool tshirt from H&M. They're one of my go to places for slogan T-shirts and sweatshirts.
If you're happy to spend a bit more, Anine Bing and Ganni are great for slogan T-shirts too.

Thank you for the blouse link @frillseeking I have ordered it and am looking forward to trying it out!

TunnocksTCake · 16/01/2023 16:01

Hi, thanks so much for doing this, its been a great read.
I am tall @ 5'11 and really struggle to find jeans and trousers to fit - M&S are a great option but any others you can think of that would do a great on trend jean/ wide leg trouser?
Also - best chelsea boots under £150?
Thanks :)

@blondie87 pressed send too soon! I also attached a couple of new pieces I've ordered. I'm planning to wear the khaki jacket with a similar camel/ black jumper and then with jeans/ leather joggers or leather leggings and the pink sweatshirt I'll wear with gym leggings for the school run, jeans or a leather midi for dinner/ drinks. I love a statement sweatshirt as they're really easy to dress up or down so you can get a lot of mileage from them.

@frillseeking photos? X

Sooverthemill · 17/01/2023 07:11

So, 4 coats arrived. 2 going straight back . Jigsaw one utterly gorgeous and luxurious and fab and if I needed a coat that wasn't for warmth I would keep it too but...and a Boden one that's a wrap with to-the-neck buttons. Just like a dressing gown! Kept at the moment the Reiss ( fabulous) and a whistles one I bunged in on spec which while I love the shape on me the fabric isn't great ( it's like a blanket and not high enough wool imo]]? Waiting for the Cos before I decide about those.
