Happy new year ladies. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I'll have some time again to reply on here so send in your requests or please send me a PM if you'd like a one on one session.

I thought of some of the posts here re skinny jeans when I saw the queen of chic Morgan Stewart post this over the festive period. Skinnies are definitely still here and dare I say even making a comeback for 2023 which I know some of the ladies here will be pleased about!

Also, if anyone is looking to invest in some new kicks for the new year (I always like to get some new ones at this time of year to freshen up my every day look), Adidas sambas are what all the cool kids are wearing and they're actually very wearable and not crazy designer prices. @Fedupwitheveryone I think the closest option I can find is from modesty brand Naayib. This style heree* is very close to the Me + Em original. They have some other pieces worth checking out too.

This style from phase eightt* is also a good option. I like the belt detail. It keeps coming in and out of stock but you might find it in store or via another online retailer such as Next.

I also like this style from mint velvett*, although it doesn't have the fullness in the bottom of the skirt like the Me + Em style.

I've also included this budget option from wall is which is in the sale. There are limited sizes available again but they do currently have a 16.

@Tara55 Hobbs do petite workwear very well if you are looking for something classic. The Ophelia jacket and skirt would be a good option. In one of the images, they've styled it with a brightly coloured blouse which would work well to draw attention away from the tummy area. You could pair with a printed blouse or something with an interesting neckline to apply the same principle. Ophelia jacket and Ophelia skirt
. They also do a dress in the same range which is a lovely fit and flare shape Ophelia dress. And they have the Mel jacket and skirt suit.

I'd also look at the Karen Millen petite range for workwear. Something like this dress would look great with a little cropped jacket which would hide your tummy if you feel conscious or this stylee*.

@Weaselstoatferret some for you to have a look at:
New Look waist enhance mom jeans and the lift andshape style
Levi's ribcage jeans (look for the ones with elastase for a bit of stretch)
Boden girlfriend jeans - come in different leg lengths
Stradiavarius slim mom jeans (also available through asos)
Sainsburys girlfriend jeans

@frillseeking you are fab! I actually think the Mint Velvet would be best for me. Thanks so much

Tara55 · 04/01/2023 22:38

Thank you so much, Frill seeking! Will let you know what I end up with. ☺❤

KillingEvenings · 05/01/2023 18:21

@frillseeking Oo oo - so happy to have found this thread. I have another interview one, but slightly other end of the spectrum from tara55. I've an interview coming up with a start up - normal dress code is very informal I believe, but there is an interview in the office with the founder and dept director so jeans and a t-shirt won't cut it. But anything too formal and I'll definitely look out of place (and feel horrible as I've not worn anything formal for years!)

I actually think jeans would be okay, if I had the right top - but I've put on a stone and a half over the last 18 months (injury and then life!) so I've nothing suitable in the wardrobe. Wide leg trousers might work too? Shoes would be brogues, Chelsea boots or trainers.

I'm a short (5'2) apple carrying too much weight at the moment, around my belly (and arms). Looking for something that will give the air of cool, competent and creative. I live in jeans and chunky sweaters at the moment, so wish there was a way to style that to fit the brief, as I want to feel comfortable but not sure that's possible. Any ideas?

CeliaCeliaCelia · 06/01/2023 16:10

Sorry for the delayed reply - thank you so much for this, ended up with the whistles one and I love it. Happy new year!

Fedupwitheveryone · 22/12/2022 19:45

OP do you have any recommendations for a faux/dupe version of the Me&Em A Line leather skirt? I know it's an investment piece but i'm the process of losing weight so can't spend that much right now until my weight settles. Looking for a faux version now, then will ideally buy leather down the line!

I'm a 16-18, 5'6 and looking for black, just below knee. Any suggestions as to decent faux around £100 mark?
Thanks if you get time to reply!

I got a really nice one this year from M&S! £35.

frillseeking · 19/12/2022 19:39

@MilkToastHoney sorry it's taken me so long to come back to you!

These Hobbs jersey wide legs are a nice casual smart option and look good with trainers. Limited stock available on Hobbs I noticed but they also have them on John Lewis.

Similar kind of vibes from mint velvet here and these are great here but out of stock in most sizes but you might pick up in store or get a re stock.

A more expensive wool version here from Reiss but these are beautiful if you want more of an investment piece

No problem at all and thank you so much. Sorry I’ve taken so long too, I’ve only just seen this.

The mint velvet ribbed ones are EXACTLY what I’m after but out of stock. So annoyed at myself for not looking sooner😭

Any similar ones? I like the fitted leggings look but with flared bottoms. They look like they would hang nicely and don’t look cheap at all (like some I’ve tried).

I’m looking to wear them casual and for travelling so nothing too tailored and like super comfortable.

Thanks so much for all the ideas, super helpful and kind of you.

frillseeking · 07/01/2023 13:11

@KillingEvenings I've attached an inspo board for more informal workwear ideas. You can definitely wear jeans and knitwear, I think it just requires a more 'dressy' type of knit. Good luck with the interview, let me know if you want any of the links

@frillseeking on your last picture post where is the black and white jumper with the sort of ‘wave’ from (second from left)? TIA

Mountainormolehills · 07/01/2023 16:07

Also what shoes/boots would you suggest wearing with navy wide leg trousers? I’ve been looking at silver brogues but I’m not sure.

frillseeking · 07/01/2023 19:31

@Mountainormolehills it's from &other stories- linked -here. Silver brogues would definitely work with wide legs 👌🏻

OP posts:
Mountainormolehills · 07/01/2023 19:45

@frillseeking thanks! I’ll definitely get the silver brogues then, they are these from Vinted (M&S).
What else would these shoes go with?
Thanks for linking the jumper, it’s too expensive for me but it’s lovely.

frillseeking · 07/01/2023 20:04

Love those shoes. They'd also work with a peg trouser when the weather warms up if you're thinking work wear and with skinnies for a casual look.

It's not a dupe but this jumper from Nakd is an alternative

HollyGennero · 08/01/2023 11:03

I’ve just read through the whole thread, some great ideas thank you!

@frillseeking Do you have any recommendations for casual size 16/18 tops to wear with wide leg trousers or jeans? I don’t usually wear standard T-shirts because they emphasise my wobbly stomach/ back fat and the round necks clash with my double chins. I never wear jumpers (always too hot) or shirts (lack the skills/ inclination to iron them properly) so I usually just wear dresses and leggings but would like to branch out more this year!

frillseeking · 08/01/2023 11:48

@Mountainormolehills a couple of inspo boards and some affordable workwear options

Amazing thank you so much!

frillseeking · 08/01/2023 21:01

@MilkToastHoney still bearing your request in mind.. tricky to find anything suitable in petite length. I know what you mean though, lots of cheaper options around but they just lack the quality and look very see through and cheap.

dinmin · 08/01/2023 21:08

Hey, would love some recommendations for low waisted trousers (more and less smart) as my tummy gets bloated and tender and I really struggle to find them…

also nice soft non-itchy (so not cashmere or acrylic) jumpers that don’t have a remotely high neck…

thanks!

timoteigirl · 08/01/2023 21:32

I find classic style and only neutral colours boring and impersonal. Can wear navy and black if required but not really e. Am very much natural ingenue and love blues purples pinks greys as am soft summer. Full hourglass shape. BUT as I'm middle aged and have put on weight how can I change my style? This may be a bit vague 😂What can I try to not get stuck but add something new to my style as I'm older and rounder? So many messages on MN about the dangers of looking frumpy.
