Oh what a wonderful thread!

I wonder if I could get some help. Just 5ft tall, size 8 on bottom and 8 or 10 on top, menopausal belly, big knockers and very strong traps. This all makes me look chunkier and top heavy.

I’ve been living in a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans and a stripey shirt from Mint Velvet and am now on the lookout for something warmer. Wouldn’t mind a good pair of wool trousers. Love cashmere and merino jumpers but they always make me look thick. I’m self conscious about my crepey décolletage.

@frillseeking I've woken up thinking about the zara dress. What's the bra situation, will you just go without?

countrypunk · 01/12/2022 08:44

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 18:49

@IsItThough what about any of these options?

@frillseeking Could you tell us where the third dress from the left is from? I love it!

countrypunk · 01/12/2022 08:45

@frillseeking Sorry, that wasn't very clear. I mean this one.

@frillseeking Lovely stuff, thank you so much!

Shinyandnew2022 · 01/12/2022 12:46

@frillseeking can you help a desperate middle aged pear with trousers or a skirt to wear with one of these tops for Christmas events - probably with Chunky black boots or a patent block heel boot ?
Size 10 top and 12-14 bottoms.

Main event is a city lunch with many only met virtually colleagues..

Many thanks if you can help !

@Shinyandnew2022 Gorgeous tops and they're both got puff sleeve details that will create balance in the top half of the body. My first thought is the leather A line skirt from Me + Em that another lady posted on here. This style here. An aline skirt is a great shape to create balance in the bottom half of an outfit for a pear. See also this style from Jigsaw - a slight asymmetric hem which draws the eye downwards and elongates the lower half here.

For a trouser, I would go with something like this velvet style from Whistles - here. These are a good option because they're clean and simple (you don't want any pocket details as this adds bulk) and they're a slight wide leg which is flattering for a pear. Skinnies will highlight your lower half and while a wide leg is deemed to be flattering for a pear, I think you have to be careful as a lot of the wide legs around at the moment are super wide leg and then this can add too much volume. Hope that helps and enjoy the event!

I'm under 5 foot, size 6 and have a smart casual Christmas night out. No idea what the others will wear but can't decided between black skinnies, wide leg black trousers, slim ankle grazer black trousers or a black skater dress. Also have a fake black mini.

Have a black lace t shirt or a gold wrap top. Various heels and boots. Prefer dress down but think I might be too dressed down.

Any idea ? My first thought is the boring jeans.

LuciferRising · 01/12/2022 19:54

*fake leather

frillseeking · 01/12/2022 20:44

@LuciferRising definitely don't wear the jeans if you feel they are boring, you are going to go out feeling unenthusiastic about your outfit from the get go and that's not good! What about the wrap top and slim tapered trousers? That sounds like a good outfit. What shoes do you have?

@WonkyFeelings have you had a look at a softer merino or cashmere option? Not all of them are chunky. A soft v neck style like the one attached would work as it would flatter your bust. Different end of the spectrum but M&S also do something similar ( also attached)

@WonkyFeelings what kind of trouser shape did you have in mind? Something for every day?

@frillseeking this was so spot on - I feel like you could dress me without ever meeting me !
Your comment abut the wide legs was so interesting as I used to wear these a lot but have found this time around they do make me feel bulky .
I also have been eyeing up @Sooverthemill leather skirt - I have blown my budget some what so it would need to be an 'investment' buy - do you feel that style has staying power?
I can't buy any one winter wonders !
Anyhow I have ordered the whistles trousers to try and some skinny style from Hush - sometimes that style works but I think I need heels but really cannot buy shoes as well!
Thanks for the input and hope you have
Time to reply about the skirt I must admit I am very tempted !

Yes, just trying to dress up a bit more in my daily life.

@Shinyandnew2022 that's what my job is 😀 the majority of my clients want online appointments now so I have be a bit of a mind reader as well as a stylist!

I do think the skirt is an investment piece that you would come back to again and again and it's really versatile, you could wear out for dinner and drinks but equally to work or for a casual lunch with a jumper and flats. I've also found this style which is a more affordable version mango but limited stock.

Love the trousers. They've got the lovely split hem detail which will draw the eye downwards so that elongates the lower half.

@Shinyandnew2022 the dot mesh top would look fab with those trousers. Please report back!

@juicy0 the dress arrived and was too small! I took a chance on a smaller size but unfortunately I need the large so I'm sticking with the self portrait dress. I'll try the bigger size though and was going to wear with these - heree*.

Thanks so much I am finding your comments encouraging !
I have also ordered a Mango skirt but I know if I take the plunge and order the real leather one there will be no comparison!
I will report back ..

Oh no, what a shame! What did you think of the style in real life? The link doesn't seem to be working, can you try again or post a pic? The self portrait dress is stunning so I'm sure you'll feel amazing in it x

Sooverthemill · 03/12/2022 15:35

@Shinyandnew2022 i viewed the leather skirt as a total investment piece that I would wear a lot over years.I've made some bad choices in the past and am trying to build up a carefully chosen smaller wardrobe.

MilkToastHoney · 03/12/2022 15:37

Amazing thread.

Any recommendations for some jersey/casual flares or similar to wear with trainers? Need to be petite.

Want to wear with a non bulky casual jumper?

Thanks @Sooverthemill - I caved last night and ordered one ! I kept looking and realised I would be gutted if it sold out.
I can't wait for it to arrive though everything is delayed is seems.
Would love to see how you style yours for maximum versatility- what do you wear on your feet ?
