Loving the thread! I want it all! Do you do online appointments? I need some new bits but I work ft so it's difficult to get out and I hate busy shopping centres at the best of times! Would love some advice. I particularly need some new every day items for smart/causal at work

banjaxedbanshee · 30/11/2022 17:06

frillseeker, I like the look of those dresses and I hadn't considered a long line cardigan but can see how that would work.
Thanks so much for taking the time to advise, I really appreciate it.

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 17:08

@banjaxedbanshee glad that helps. I wasn't sure if you would like those particular prints but the shapes give you an idea of what would work for you

@canderelle yes of course! Most of my clients are online now because of that reason! I'll send you a DM x

Yes, I'm not keen on the past eight pattern but I'll start looking for that type of dress. Wink

banjaxedbanshee · 30/11/2022 17:11

phase eight fgs!

IsItThough · 30/11/2022 17:35

have started a thread but so much wisdom here: fancy do emergency -
Turner Prize Dinner. London arty types, but in Liverpool. Not black tie. No idea what to wear. Remote chance of being caught on telly.

Size 18, 50, bewbs and arse. Do not want to look like mother of the bride at a provincial wedding.

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 17:38

@banjaxedbanshee also have a look at Wallis and Dorothy Perkins for some lovely wrap dresses at a price point, they do that kind of product very well

WildFlowerBees · 30/11/2022 18:12

@frillseeking please may I have a DM for online appointments. This thread has been the best one in a really long time.

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 18:49

@Saz12 that's a tricky one, especially as you don't know the people but as it was quite a formal invitation, I think it's best to go for a dressier option. If you go underdressed, you might look out of place but if you're overdressed, you'll just look like you've made an effort which is flattering to any host. This Jigsaw dress is stunning and the gorgeous teal colour makes it standout without being over the top. You could wear with boots as they've styled or it would look fab with a gold platform. Rixo is a good brand for this type of event - this dress is lovely and this gorgeous feather style (sold out but they restock regularly.) If you've got the budget for it, this Saloni style would be my ultimate buy. Also love something like this navy velvet suit from Mango - here. For a simple, statement dress, I have this Self portrait style and would wear it to this type of event, its gorgeous on.

Only just discovered this thread and I absolutely love it, thank you!
Can I ask @frillseeking is the self portrait dress to young for a 45 yr old size 10 5'5"?
I've had an invite to a drinks party which I'm really looking forward to but it is a mainly younger crowd with several "influencers" and faces from tv. I'd like to wear a dress and heels but I'm not good with high necks, are you able to give me any other suggestions please?

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 19:22

@WildFlowerBees yes of course. Also you asked about jumpers- go for a deep v to flatter your bust and something like this kind of length to avoid looking boxy

Not at all, I think it's a great dress! I felt so comfortable in it. It would look great with a stand out shoe like these pink satin platforms. If you like the self portrait one, you might like this new zara one. Id style this with an oversized tux, spot mesh tights and gold platforms with a Chanel style bag

I love the shoes! Also love the zara dress but not sure if I'm tall enough to pull it off, the SP one looks slightly shorter I think? Thank you so much for the advice and the thread x

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 20:26

@IsItThough that's good, they're the high street options!

Jumpsuit heree*- this would look great with a platform shoe like we've been looking at on the thread already

Green sequin dress - from
Whistles - love the cleanness of this one and that it's not your typical sequin dress

Pink velvet- heree*- love the unusual colour of this one which makes it stand out

Pink satin- from River island- a real statement piece that doesn't look high street at all pink satinn*

Let me know! Have you seen any nice gold shoes?

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 21:54

@juicy0 I actually love these ones which are a bargain from New Look. And this style from ASOS. For a high end option, these are the ones the fash pack are loving.

Love these suggestions.
I’m still on the hunt for the dress 🙄 a fancy wedding, size 10/12.
Given up on the Bardot neckline, it’s just not coming together.
Need knock out frock with long/bracelet length sleeves.
Am thinking of hiring but it’s risky for fit/getting to me!
Looking at 16Arlington Halia cold shoulder dress.
Do you know about the fit/body type for this make I wonder?
Or have you seen a similar high street dress?
Hiring seems like a great idea but trying on i’d prefer.
Thank you so much, I’ve bought some of your recommendations already and fingers crossed.

@Serenitesanta whereabouts are you based? I'm just thinking you could visit a high end dress hire shop, I know of a few in London. That way you'd get to try on. Love that dress, I'm familiar with the brand but I don't actually know how their sizing comes up. I had a quick look on matches and it says true to size.
