@Shitfather I think you will love Ulla Johnson. Also worth taking a look Batsheva, Love shack fancy, O pioneers, the vampires wife and Anna Mason. Love that aesthetic

Oooh yes! I saw a gorgeous Ulla Johnson coat in London - very Sea NY. Will check out the other brands.

MsDastardley · 29/11/2022 17:02

Thank you @Sooverthemill I’ve had a quick look but nothing similar, although do quite like the look of a couple of pairs of block heel Mary Janes 😀

Newlychosencatservant · 29/11/2022 17:15

Oh my goodness, this thread is going to be bad for my bank balance. I LOVE the chloe blouse and the platform shoes!!

stringbean · 29/11/2022 18:09

Yes, I'm quite taken with the Chloe blouse as well, which is odd as I usually hate ruffles (must be the French tailoring or something Smile). Does anyone know what the fit is like for Sezane? Does it come up small?

frillseeking · 29/11/2022 18:18

There's actually a note on each item on their website with a size guide. For a blouse like this, if you're unsure size up as it's meant to be a loose fit and style that you tuck in. It's such a beautiful piece ❤️

I'll try to get through some more requests later when the footballs on!

I buy a lot of Sézane tops and I find the size guide helpful but generally their 38 for my size 10 if fine although for knitwear I often size down

frillseeking · 29/11/2022 21:51

@Elevenutionary not sure on your style or what kind of look you want to go for but I've linked a few ideas here. Something like this would look good with a smart camel wool coat. A plain option here at a good price point - here. I also thought possibly this style for a classic look but yes I have to admit, I found it quite difficult to find anything inspiring, possibly because of time of year but it's slim pickings

Thank you @frillseeking You’re a star. The H&M dress is quite ‘me’ and I really like it! If I’m honest I had hoped not black but I think with a coat as you suggest, it will be great! Thank you so much. I wish you could ‘do over’ my wardrobe!

banjaxedbanshee · 29/11/2022 22:17

I posted this morning but it looks like it's disappeared, how odd!

Anyway frillseeker, I wonder if you could help an older woman. I'm 70, 5'6 and a definite pear shape. I had abdominal surgery a few months back which has left me with a very bloated stomach ( I also have dressings) which means none of my clothes fit properly and everything looks awful.

In the short term I need a dress for lunches and casual dinners if you could suggest anything I'd be grateful.

High street budget.

Daydreamer12345 · 29/11/2022 22:20

What’s your opinion on tights with sandals?

frillseeking · 29/11/2022 22:27

@Saz12 that's a tricky one, especially as you don't know the people but as it was quite a formal invitation, I think it's best to go for a dressier option. If you go underdressed, you might look out of place but if you're overdressed, you'll just look like you've made an effort which is flattering to any host. This Jigsaw dress is stunning and the gorgeous teal colour makes it standout without being over the top. You could wear with boots as they've styled or it would look fab with a gold platform. Rixo is a good brand for this type of event - this dress is lovely and this gorgeous feather style (sold out but they restock regularly.) If you've got the budget for it, this Saloni style would be my ultimate buy. Also love something like this navy velvet suit from Mango - here. For a simple, statement dress, I have this Self portrait style and would wear it to this type of event, its gorgeous on.

@banjaxedbanshee how strange, I'll have and look and will send you some ideas over

@Daydreamer12345 it can definitely work. I would say you need to go for a high heel to make it work- a low heel or flat sandal with tights will just look frumpy. Try and find a seamless pair if possible so you can't see it or tuck underneath your foot.

@MsDastardley I was going to say you might have more luck with a Mary Jane style. A lot of the platforms have open toes, that's the tricky part.

I like these ones from Russell and bromley but not cheap and a little high but a beautiful style or these ones from Boden but limited sizes left heree*.

I've attached the M&S ones for anyone wanting similar to the ones you posted but with open toe as they're a good option

Thanks @frillseeking I don’t think they exist! The M&S pair are a bargain. I do like the Russell and Bromley shoes but too high for me unfortunately. I’ll see if I can find some Mary Janes

WildFlowerBees · 30/11/2022 13:13

Another question for you please, where should I look for lovely soft jumpers that don't make a broad shouldered big boobed woman look boxy? I love jumpers but I love when they fall nicely aren't too short in the body and are really cosy. No wool or alpaca though <shudder> thank you!

@frillseeking thank you for your thoughts.

Phew!! Haha.

My outfit is similar to second picture, I’d not given it any thought but a thread popped up on here a few days ago and a lot of posters suggested tights with sandals was a complete no no.

Yeh, can see what you mean about low heel/flats.

Put my mind at rest!!

Daydreamer12345 · 30/11/2022 15:12

By the way-absolutely living this thread

Daydreamer12345 · 30/11/2022 15:12

*loving

frillseeking · 30/11/2022 15:59

@banjaxedbanshee

This loose wrap dress from phase eightt* as the wrap gives extra coverage to the tummy area and an all over print is flattering. However, it still has some shape- you don't want something completely shapeless.

Live unlimited - a brand I've mentioned previously, they know how to cut to flatter. The lovely fluted sleeve on this style adds interest to the upper body which draws the eye upwards and seaming under the bust to create a loose fit over the tummy area. I also really like this style -https://liveunlimitedlondon.com/products/black-mono-swirl-print-wrap-jersey-midi-dress?variant=40297929867324-

Also wanted to recommend something like this longline cardigan from phase eight as well, as it pulls the outfit together and is a great layering piece. It will elongate your silhouette and neaten the outfit.

@MsDastardley randomly Tu have a nice pair (image attached) that aren't too high or too chunky. But.. sold out apart from a size 8 but I'd have a look in store perhaps
