Shampoo bars

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for shampoo bars. I'd like to move away from plastic bottles if possible.

I've tried ones from Little Eco Shop online and I liked it to begin with but it very quickly started to break apart and now it's a nightmare trying to stop it just disintegrating.

I thought about just going for the Pantene bar that Boots sell but as that's what I use in liquid but they're considerably more expensive than most of the others on the market so I thought I'd ask for advice before I go for it!

One that I wouldn't recommend is one made from goats milk. For some reason my hair felt worse than it did before I washed it 😔

Turnaroundandigone · 30/10/2022 15:17

Gruum are great.

LadySybilRamekin · 30/10/2022 15:19

Yes, Gruum are great - their conditioner bar is actually decent, too.

Faith In Nature are good and are the only one I have tried that doesn’t need an acid rinse every so often to stop my hair feeling sticky (I believe this is something to do with being a hard water area and may not apply to everyone.)

There’s a small company called Cosy Cottage Soap that does lovely ones.

That doesn't sound good at all!

Thanks Turnaroundandigone, LadySybilRamekin and TheCountessofFitzdotterel - I'll check those out.

I like the garnier one a lot. Often on offer.

MissBattleaxe · 30/10/2022 15:25

My favourite ever is LUSH Godiva but even their shampoo bars don't last long at all. The Soho Soap Co was Okay if I recall.

SquigglePigs · 30/10/2022 15:28

Thanks for those rainstorm101 and MissBattleaxe - I'll check those out too.

I like the little eco shop ones but the ones I used stayed pretty solid for me, are you drying it out after using it or keeping it near your shower?
The one I accidentally left near the sink stuck to everything and disintergrated. Dried off and on the shelf was totally fine

purser25 · 30/10/2022 15:43

Have tried several none of them have crumbled but after a while they seem to leave my hair rather sticky as if it hasn’t washed out properly

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 30/10/2022 15:43

I've struggled take I've tried lots and find some great ones but they tend to be the more expensive ones so it just doesn't work with 5 of us. I have stayed using miniml instead which is liquid but is low impact and refillable. A lot of the refill/eco shops have it so you just take your bottle and fill from the big vat they have or you can order big 5l tubs yourself which they will then take back and reuse.

Try rinsing with water with a little lemon juice or cider vinegar added. You don’t need to do it every time.

I use Alphy & Becs shampoo bars https://www.alphyandbecs.co.uk/collections/types?q=Shampoo%20Bar Used to buy from Amazon but no longer available from there. Still available direct though. Great on my hair and quite cheap. Also use Friendly Soap Shampoo bar. Also very good and only £2.66 a bar... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08MYXHW5T/ref=ppxyoodtbbasintitleeo03s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Grüum is the best I've tried. Lathers really well, leaves my hair squeaky clean and lasts well as long as the kids don't use it

OrangeBlossom28 · 30/10/2022 16:24

I use Grüum too and really like the shampoo bar. I use for a first wash then use a tiny amount of Olaplex shampoo after.

wetpebbles · 30/10/2022 16:26

I buy the XHC brand from farm foods or home bargains for £1, nice and mild and lathers up nicely

barelyfunctional · 30/10/2022 16:30

I’m currently using a ‘friendly’ bar, I’ve got a tiny sample bar which has lasted me several weeks already and still has about half left, the trick is to keep it completely dry between uses.

bigblueyonder · 30/10/2022 16:46

Try KinKind- they're really good. The other ones I would get again are from lather and smudge but they are v expensive.

Bramblejoos · 30/10/2022 16:47

Lush yellow one with half a slice of dried lemon.

Lcb123 · 30/10/2022 16:50

Lush, Gruum or there’s a nice brand in Waitrose which does one for hair and body

Bananabreakfast123 · 30/10/2022 17:00

I love lush seanik. Hair always feels squeaky clean with a bit of volume and shine.

DuchessOfSausage · 30/10/2022 17:57

Ethique, I've not tried other ones

Yup same. I've used this exclusively for years now :)

OldWivesTale · 30/10/2022 18:39

The Lush one called "Honey I washed the kids" or something like that, is brilliant but quite expensive. It smells amazing though and leaves your hair feeling very clean and shiny.
