Shampoo bars

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for shampoo bars. I'd like to move away from plastic bottles if possible.

I've tried ones from Little Eco Shop online and I liked it to begin with but it very quickly started to break apart and now it's a nightmare trying to stop it just disintegrating.

I thought about just going for the Pantene bar that Boots sell but as that's what I use in liquid but they're considerably more expensive than most of the others on the market so I thought I'd ask for advice before I go for it!

guruum unscented, makes my hair soft and shiny and needs re washing every 3-4 days. I also have a sensitive scalp, and have no issues at all with it.

I love lush seanik. Hair always feels squeaky clean with a bit of volume and shine.

I like this one too. It makes my hair really shiny.

Grüüm nourishing coconut works well for me. I tried their other coconut bar but that left a bit of residue. They lasted over 2 months (used daily).

I'd like to try them but can't work out the best way to store them? We have no shelves in our shower cubicle and those sucker unit things don't attach to our tiles as they are a weird texture.

Any ideas? I had thought about putting it on a soap dish on the floor but won't it go really soggy quickly?

woodhill · 11/11/2022 13:53

Covered plastic soap dish?

familyissues12345 · 11/11/2022 14:19

Oh like one of those travel soap boxes? I'll have a look thanks! Haven't seen those for years

woodhill · 11/11/2022 14:43

Yes you can buy them in Superdrug etc Smile

WashAsDelicates · 11/11/2022 15:10

Get soap boxes with a raised drainer inside them so that the soap does not sit in water. Like these, for example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08H26T4MP?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

I have a thing for putting soap on which is basically a square of loofah which seems to work better than any of my soap dishes, plastic or bamboo.

Fufumcgoo · 11/11/2022 19:21

I wouldn't recommend then at all, any of them. I tried them and have never had such dry, dull, lifeless hair ever in my life. Awful

Mol1628 · 11/11/2022 19:25

I like the Alberto balsam ones. They last ages! I just store mine on a little soap tray.

SlippinKimmy · 11/11/2022 20:57

I’ve only tried the Gruum ones, I think the shampoo one is fantastic but disappointed with the conditioner, it’s such a shame. I imagine that’s harder to get right.

barelyfunctional · 12/11/2022 13:57

Since my last comment on here I’ve moved on to using some ethique sample bars, the pinkalicious shampoo and wonderbar conditioner. I’m going to try one of their other shampoo bars when these run out because this one doesn’t help my dry scalp (although it doesn’t make it worse either) but they leave my hair clean enough to go 2-3 days between washes and the conditioner leaves my hair soft and doesn’t weigh it down at all.

ValSand1 · 11/10/2023 14:27

I know bars are not everybody's choice, they take getting used to but they save on plastic waste and the better ones are biodegradable and fully natural. Even better now, I've just discovered a great 2 in 1 shampoo and & conditioner bar, wasn't sure such a thing existed until now - it works really well for me so worth a try from The Solid Bar Company and they also sell them on Amazon!

2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner Bar - Frankincense

The best 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner bar. Vegan, cruelty, plastic, SLS & paraben free, UK-made 100% natural shampoo & conditioner.

Squirrelsnut · 11/10/2023 14:38

I like Gruum and Garnier.

Pear12 · 11/10/2023 14:38

Second these! Work very well, cheap, last ages, and no residue feeling

ILikeStrictly · 11/10/2023 14:43

I don’t like the Grumm (unlike PP) or the Alberto Balsam.

The Head and Shoulders one is OK. The one that’s best for my long fine greasy hair is this one, but it’s expensive and I have to buy it online. Also, the fragrance may mean it’s targeted for men, but I like it.

edited to add that I’ve never had one break apart.
