Shampoo bars

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for shampoo bars. I'd like to move away from plastic bottles if possible.

I've tried ones from Little Eco Shop online and I liked it to begin with but it very quickly started to break apart and now it's a nightmare trying to stop it just disintegrating.

I thought about just going for the Pantene bar that Boots sell but as that's what I use in liquid but they're considerably more expensive than most of the others on the market so I thought I'd ask for advice before I go for it!

I trialled a few after posting a thread on here, I didn't find any I like enough to use them more than a couple of times and I think they're expensive considering there's barely any packaging.

Ohmych · 30/10/2022 18:46

I used to use the shampoo bars from here. the-good-soap.co.uk/ they were great but couldn't afford to carry on when I was on furlough.

RobertsWonder · 30/10/2022 18:51

I use the ones from Soul and Soap, they're the best ones ive used

xalo · 30/10/2022 18:53

I haven't found one that performs as well as shampoo and as you can buy shampoo refills I prefer that.
I'm in a very hard water area though.

mrsfeatherbottom · 30/10/2022 18:57

We use Friendly ones and really like them

woodhill · 30/10/2022 18:58

I liked the Faith in Nature coconut one

hugoagogo · 30/10/2022 19:05

dh has the faith in nature coconut
I like ethique pink grapefruit which is a bit pricey, but a big block, so long as I leave it to dry in it's own dish it lasts for ages, my current one is almost four months old.
Other good ones are friendly soap company, and bomb cosmetics.

BEAM123 · 30/10/2022 19:08

I love the Gruum nourishing one...it's the only shampoo where I've ever come close to not needing to wash my hair every single day

Theraffarian · 30/10/2022 19:09

Had some good ethique ones , which stayed solid until the end with a nice fragrance and not harsh. contrary to most people above I really didn’t get on with the gruum one I tried , the coconut one had no fragrance , yes does leave hair squeaky clean as in strips all it’s natural oil and after using for about 6 weeks I found my scalp getting more and more irritated by it .

meateatingveggie · 30/10/2022 19:09

I've tried a few, Gruum is the only one I've re bought. The others I've ended up using up as ordinary soap.

fernz · 30/10/2022 19:15

Eco Living ones are the best I've tried, and I've tried quite a few over the years. I've been buying these for over a year now. Love the scents, too.

FleecyMcFleeceFace · 30/10/2022 19:17

I like Faith in Nature and the John Freida Volume bar. Both good and last ages, longer than a bottle of shampoo. Dry them on a wire rack so they don't sit in any water. Lush are expensive and disintegrate in a blink.

EmmaC78 · 30/10/2022 19:20

I use gruum too, I wasn't keen on their conditioner bar but the shampoo bar is good.

neerg · 30/10/2022 19:26

I found one in B&M that only costs about £3. I think it may be Alberto Balsam. You have to keep it dry between uses so it doesn't disintegrate. I got a nice soap dish and store it on a window sill that I can reach from the shower.

SierraSapphire · 30/10/2022 19:57

Agree with Gruum shampoo bar but I've never found a conditioner bar that works well <hopeful>.

I like the little eco shop ones but the ones I used stayed pretty solid for me, are you drying it out after using it or keeping it near your shower?
The one I accidentally left near the sink stuck to everything and disintergrated. Dried off and on the shelf was totally fine

That's interesting. I've been keeping it in the little pot they sell for keeping it in at the opposite end of the bath so shouldn't be getting too damp in between. Probably not completely dry though.

I hadn't thought of shampoo refills. Daft really given that's what we do with hand wash! I'll have a look at those too. Any recommendations?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll have a look at them all.

Also looks like I need to work on my storage plan!

The Lush one called "Honey I washed the kids" or something like that, is brilliant but quite expensive. It smells amazing though and leaves your hair feeling very clean and shiny.

I use that. Lasts for ages and lathers alot.

Peckhampalace · 30/10/2022 20:51

I like zero waste path combined shampoo conditioner bar. Leaves my hair soft and doesn't need washing as often.
The one in the bathroom stands on a small beeswax wrap and the one in my swimming bag is in a soap box....neither has broken up at all.

ny20005 · 30/10/2022 20:59

The only one that I've found that lathers well, doesn't leave my hair squeaky & it doesn't go to mush is nuddy - practice what you peach. It smells lovely too

There's 20% off them at the moment - SPOOKYSZN

LabradorVibe · 30/10/2022 21:04

I use ethique and am finding it great. I tried a few other brands before. Ethique has been the best for keeping my hair glossy and bouncy, and didn't fall apart towards the end of a bar. Soul & soap,

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/10/2022 21:14

I really like Gruum too.
I think they have a hair care starter set in offer at the mo - hace a look on their fb page.,

WashAsDelicates · 30/10/2022 21:36

I've been using Salisbury Soaps shampoo bar and conditioner bar. Really lovely.

From the very first use the conditioner bar has had a gorgeous effect on my hair. Soft and wavy, lovely. Totally recommend it.

The shampoo bar is so gentle that it doesn’t dry my skin at all (which is usually a problem for my face after shampooing).

thisyearsuckssofar · 30/10/2022 21:42

Ethique, but I also need the Ethique conditioner bar. Also recently bought a £1 bar in Farmfoods (can't remember the name) and it is good, lathers really well.
