I have a dress about 12 years old I really love and may wear again, and a pair of ski trousers I am unlikely to ever wear again (unless I need them because of the gas bill)

OP posts:

I realised this summer that two pairs of shorts i have are about 15 years old. I have a lot of trousers and skirts that are maybe 10 years old.

Knittingnanny2 · 27/08/2022 14:42

I’ve just looked through my winter coats and realised my favourite fake fur coat I wear every dec Jan feb when it’s a dry cold day must be about 20 years old. Good old BHS!

Squirrelsnut · 27/08/2022 14:48

A t-shirt my friend used fabric paint on as a gift for my 18th. I'm 52.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/08/2022 17:25

I have a cheese cloth shirt from about 1976 which my kids also wore!

In terms of things I still wear - a pair of wide legged, drawstring 3/4 length trousers that I wore on holiday this year at the pool and realised I purchased them for my first holiday with my now ex in 2001!

warofthemonstertrucks · 27/08/2022 17:33

A fleece jumper o has for the school ski trip aged 13. I'm 42 now. It's known as the poorly jumper as its what I wear whenever im sick.

Antarcticant · 27/08/2022 17:37

It's not in my wardrobe, but in my parents' coat cupboard is a C&A donkey jacket I owned aged 10 in the mid-1980s. I can actually still get into it because it was oversized and baggy (more like a pea-jacket on me now!).

QuebecBagnet · 27/08/2022 17:38

A 29yo dress from Debenhams. I love it, it used to be loose and flowing and is now a bit more fitted!

Sparkles29 · 27/08/2022 17:46

A tie-dye blue denim colour dress from Ibiza in 1986, when I was 18, I still love it & may pass it onto my 18 year old daughter-you could definitely still wear it clubbing today I reckon as long as the fabric doesn't fall apart!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 27/08/2022 17:52

I've got a gorgeous silk velvet evening wrap that's about 25 years old. It feels beautiful 😍 I only wear it if I'm going somewhere very formal, obviously.

coldcaff · 28/08/2022 00:29

I have a maternity t shirt which I would have bought in 2011.

Pinkbatrobi · 13/12/2022 21:46

I have still got (but couldn't possibly fit in!) the top and skirt my mum sewed me for my 🇪🇺 Baccalaureate diploma ceremony in 1982. Other than that, some T-shirts I bought for pennies in a wonderful market in Carcavelhos, near Lisbon, in 1989, and I still love and wear those around the house... I expect they are older than many of you here...😣

FlamingJingleBells · 13/12/2022 21:50

A cornflower blue, gold & black floral dress from River Island before it went mainstream circa 1996. Haven't worn it for a long time as I'm no longer a lithe size 6.......

Newlifenewme · 13/12/2022 22:56

I have a wooden coat hanger my dads step dad made for him when he was 5 and got his first own proper wardrobe. It was one of about 10 he made for him. When I was a child there were three left and now just the one I have. It’s almost 60 years old.

item of clothing that’s the oldest is a wool dress that’s 12 years old DH bought it for me to come home in after having dc3 because it was colder than we expected.

MissPrincess · 14/12/2022 10:51

I have a black corset dress, embroidered with roses that I bought from Karen Millen back in 1995. It was my dream party dress. The elastane started to perish a few years back, but I simply can't throw it away. Too many lovely memories.

PinkArt · 14/12/2022 13:12

OH MY GOD @Shannith I came here to say the same!!! It must be the same top. It somehow fitted me when I was both about 10 stone and 18 stone, works with so many outfits and is older than some of the people I work with.

Shannith · 14/12/2022 13:41

That's brilliant. It'll still be going strong long after I'm dead.

Yea, fits whatever size and so flattering. If I was a seamstress I'd have it in every couple and would never have had to but a too again.

I might dish it out for a photo if I remember!

Shannith · 14/12/2022 13:41

To @PinkArt

thecartofhelena · 14/12/2022 16:14

I still have my Brownie leather belt, from my Brownie Uniform from 1971, Its a lovely thick supple brown leather, and has had constant wear albeit on the largest hole, until recently when it has worn a bit too much to do up

PinkArt · 14/12/2022 19:58

@Shannith I'm convinced it has actual magical powers!

Featheryboa · 14/12/2022 21:01

M and s jumper from the early 80s. Will never fit it again but I keep it for sentimental reasons.
Lee blouse from c1986, it was oversized at the time so still fits now, though doesn't really hang right, but my teen dds have both worn it.

Oldest thing I actually wear is a white stuff sweatshirt top , about 15 years old.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 14/12/2022 23:14

An Aran cardigan my mum knitted my grandad in about 1975, I wear it regularly, and dd wears an Aquascutum winter coat which my dad bought for my mum in about 1962

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/12/2022 23:15

38 year old t-shirt that I wear in bed. Inherited it from husband 34 years ago, he’d had it for 4 then.

AC2022 · 14/12/2022 23:29

I have a red and black mohair cardigan that my grandmother knitted for my other grandmother. It’s not remotely stylish but it I wear it around the house at Christmas sometimes.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/12/2022 23:36

My mother’s silk pyjamas which she got just after the war when clothes rationing ended. I dimly remember her wearing them when we were on holiday .I found them in her underwear drawer when she died seven years ago, and I have worn them every summer since. They seem fine ( they obvious invested in quality). I also have a pair of my grandmothers gloves from just after WWI, although I don’t wear them much as they are quite thin.

MariahsBaubles · 15/12/2022 04:56

A Karen Mullen mini dress circa 1994/5. My favourite thing. It no longer fits and DD wouldn't be seen dead in it, so it will just have to stay in the wardrobe for the occasional affectionate stroke.
