I have a dress about 12 years old I really love and may wear again, and a pair of ski trousers I am unlikely to ever wear again (unless I need them because of the gas bill)

I’ve got a Gap denim jacket that I got when I worked there in about 1989, so 33 years old!

cathyandclare · 24/08/2022 21:50

...I valued the rest.

AllAboutMargot · 24/08/2022 21:58

A black pleated skirt by Strawberry Studio that I bought in Fareham when I was 18, so 46 years ago.

FourChimneys · 24/08/2022 22:04

A charity shop dress, bought 23 years ago and worn two or three times each summer.

A coat bought 28 years ago and worn every winter (but not for smart occasions any more).

A pair of cheap flip-flops from a beach shop in Cornwall in 1988. I'm wearing them as I type.

DHs dressing gown is over 50 years old and still washes well. I think fabric was better quality then.

mondaytosunday · 24/08/2022 22:09

Over 30 years. I don't fit into it anymore but I will one day!

Hesleepswiththefishes · 24/08/2022 22:13

A festival crew tshirt 1997 and some other band ones from the 90s

FusionChefGeoff · 24/08/2022 22:13

I actually wore a pair of (very stretchy) trousers at the weekend that I've had since I was 18. I am 42 Grin

I also have my Grandma's locket and a ring which are much much older than that but guess that doesn't reallly count.

MinglingFlamingo · 24/08/2022 22:21

I have my dads denim jacket which he brought in 1968ish. And a shirt of my mums which she brought late 80s early 90s

Just had a a sort out but I do have a jumper which was brought for me as part of my Pe kit when I was in year 6 which I still wear/ fits me . I was 10 when it was brought for me so it's at least 20 years old.

I still have a few bits which I brought when I was mid teens.

Joolsin · 24/08/2022 22:21

The oldest things I've had from new are my first pair of DMs, bought in 1988. I still wear them sometimes, but not if it's raining as they leak. Next is a skate punk t-shirt that a friend brought back for me from San Francisco in about 1990/1991 - I still wear it. I have things that are older, but they're vintage and bought in second hand shops, so that doesn't count. Oh, and my grandmother's mink stole from about 1950 something.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 24/08/2022 22:23

The things I still wear are a black Schott puffer jacket I bought when I was pregnant with DS1 (28 years old) and a Ghost dress I bought when I was pregnant with DS2 (22 years old). Both still look perfect today were/are great quality.

I also have a stunning beaded flapper dress from the 1920's that was given to me as a teenager by a family friend.

ShirleyJackson · 24/08/2022 22:25

A Mulberry denim jacket that I bought from an outlet store about twenty years ago. I’ve worn it consistently since - it never dates.

Probably my best-ever buy.

TwigTheWonderKid · 24/08/2022 22:25

I have a cardigan that I still wear which I bought in Monsoon in 1989. I also have a fab sequinned evening dress of mum's which is as old as me (52 years)

Gufo · 24/08/2022 22:38

Reiss LBD from 2009 - it's bodycon and will probably fit DD better than it fits me!

Fluffruff · 24/08/2022 22:45

A black velvet evening jacket that belonged to my great grandmother. It must be early 1900s or late 1800s.

Smoothsoul · 24/08/2022 22:47

A grey and colourful striped Lycra polo neck from warehouse I bought aged 17 in 1991 still love it.

moonriverandme · 24/08/2022 22:47

I've got a top that my mum made for herself. It's 65 years old, white, lacey cotton & I still wear it occasionally. I treasure it

wonkylegs · 24/08/2022 22:47

I have a 1960's black evening gown that was my mums, that I lined and redid the lace on in the late 90s for my leavers ball
I also have my dads wedding suit jacket from the 70's which I added darts to the back and now wear, the flared pinstripe trousers unfortunately are to tight.
I have a 1920's silk nightgown which I have worn in the past but is now too fragile.
Our dressing up box also has my mums sparkly lime green and gold flares and tunic dress with molded bra in the top (it's seriously special) from the 60's which I've worn for fancy dress.
I have loads of stuff from the 80's, 90s which has been saved, recut, fixed or worn again. I'm fairly handy with a needle, never had any money and before I became an architect wanted to be a fashion designer.

Metabigot · 24/08/2022 22:48

A long shirt/kaftan thing from Oasis c 2008.

Rediscovered it recently, I kept it as a beach cover up but it works as a source of tunicy shirt now so its come out of the summer holiday box into main wardrobe

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 25/08/2022 13:00

I have hand me downs older than me.

Not much now because I am too fat to get in a lot of it but I keep it.

My wedding shoes were my grandmother's from the 1960s, but I have another pair of her shoes that I wore to a ball that were 1930s, they are probably the oldest item of clothing that I have actually worn. I have a few lovely traditional knitted wool jumpers that are older than me too, Fair Isle and Aran etc, a few 60s mini skirts and dresses than my Mum made for herself when she was young and fashionable, a beautiful leather jacket that was my Dad's, a down coat inherited from another family member.

In terms of things I bought new and still wear, I definitely have things from the early 90s. My denim jacket, a school jumper, a nightshirt that I can't part with, a pair of boots, oversized t-shirts etc. I am currently wearing a t-shirt that I got free as work uniform in about 1998.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 25/08/2022 13:17

My husband's Levi denim jacket which he was wearing when I met him 37 years ago - which no longer fits him. I wear it all the time.

My wedding dress - 35 years old.

A red A line swing coat with scarlet ribbons (still looks new, possibly because everyone save it 'for best') - which my mum was given in 1944. (Not sure of its age.)

MaisyMary77 · 25/08/2022 13:20

Two beautiful Frank Usher evening gowns. One from the 1950s one from 1980s.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 25/08/2022 13:28

A shawl that my dad bought back from Afghanistan in 1969. I wasn't born then but when I went to University my mum gave it to me as it's lovely and warm.

I also have a red velvet dressing gown of indeterminate age. I've had it for at least 30 years and it was a hand me down then (inherited on the death of a great aunt).

My daughter has her eye on both of these already.

Off the of my head. A hoodie I got in Next in my late 20s & a watch I got when I was 16. I'm 60 now.

Alazne58 · 25/08/2022 16:40

Two dresses from the late 1970s.

Both have a story one bought at high price expat place of my youth and before leaving to EU went to USA NY and FL for holiday and the last day Miami looking for a drugstore see a shop with my dress for 1/7 of the price I pay in expat shop.

Other shop at expat place see a dress in emerald green in my size and one in ruby red different size, asked politely if saleslady could look in the back for the ruby dress in my size, she say no we do not have any dresses in back, one could see the not interested to go look for it, she was just few years older than me. So bought the emerald and meanwhile hear tourists ask her to look for dresses in back and she did go look for them, came out with lots of dresses.
