I have a dress about 12 years old I really love and may wear again, and a pair of ski trousers I am unlikely to ever wear again (unless I need them because of the gas bill)

This got me thinking as I think of myself as frivolous but maybe not. Just been away and wore a skirt I bought in 2006. My eldest is 11 and I have lots of things that I bought before she was born.

AmbushedByCake1 · 24/08/2022 20:24

I have a 20 year old denim mini skirt that I still wear. Made by Gas.

QuestionableMouse · 24/08/2022 20:25

I have a dress I bought when I was 16. I'm 37 now 😂😁 Also a waterproof coat from 2004.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 24/08/2022 20:26

I have a few dresses that I've kept with the idea i might wear them again one day (but honestly am unlikely to ever be slim enough). Oldest of these is 24 years old (and still looks perfect). Of things I still wear regularly - probably around 5 years old.

Redkite11 · 24/08/2022 20:28

I have a coat from the 1940s which I bought from a vintage shop. I have also inherited some clothes which are from the 60s and 70s (a Frank Usher dress, fur coat and a house dress). When my daughter was born 2 months ago, my mum gave me a bag of baby clothes which I wore as a newborn 35 years ago.

MarthaMayWhovier · 24/08/2022 20:33

I've got a t-shirt from when I was 11. I still wear it.

I've got various items of vintage clothing. My wedding dress was from the 70s.

limitededitionbarbie · 24/08/2022 20:36

I have a t shirt that says I am the real mclovin from
Superbad.

I don't wear it now except for bed as I'm a bit fat and I'm waiting for someone to say you need less of the McDonald's. (Which I don't eat)

About 15 years old or there abouts

Ziggyisthebestdogintheworld · 24/08/2022 20:36

About 18 months-I buy second hand and re-donate every 3 months or so
i have some earrings from the 40’s and a necklace from the 50’s
ive had a pair of flip flops I bought 8 years ago but rarely wear them
my dp has clothes he owned aged 7/8 and he’s almost 48-he can’t fit in them now tho!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 24/08/2022 20:37

Ive got a lot of stuff from Uni about 15 years ago, I was going to throw it out / charity shop it but DD claimed most of it.

turkeyboots · 24/08/2022 20:37

I have a long satin skirt I bought in Dorothy Perkins Dec 1995 for my school leavers dance. DD has claimed it now as fashion has gone full circle!

cashmerecardigans · 24/08/2022 20:38

A Katherine Hammett dress I bought in 1986.
It was peach and I dyed it black and wore it loads. I can just about still get into it and I'm now 56!

Knittingnanny2 · 24/08/2022 20:45

Not exactly in my wardrobe but sitting beside it is my teddy ( 65 years old) wearing the tiny baby cardi I knitted for eldest child now aged 40. Teddy is also wearing Thomas the tank engine socks from child number 3 now 31.
He is wearing them because his feet have started to disintegrate and is a bit threadbare around his tummy but other than that is aging well just like his owner.
40 year old baby knit is in perfect condition as child number 1 was over 9lb and wore it for about 2 weeks only!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/08/2022 20:49

A Mary Quant leather jacket I bought myself for Xmas in 1987.

SpaceJamtart · 24/08/2022 20:51

Oldest that was originally mine is a pair of jeans I bought from a market when I was about 14, they still holding together well, if a bit tatty and I wear them for walking in the woods.
Oldest that was someone elses is a dark green dress that was my grandmas in the late 40s I wore it to a vintage themed wedding last year.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/08/2022 20:52

I have a couple of dresses that I bought in the 1970s. I also have a couple of dresses that were made for my mother in the 1950s. I can't fit in any of them at the moment, but I'm hopeful!

In terms of things that I still wear, I have a few things, mainly jumpers, that I bought well before my children were born. The oldest (child) is 25.

PlanetNormal · 24/08/2022 20:53

A t-shirt which was a promotional freebie from 1989.

LadyPoison · 24/08/2022 20:55

A fur coat that belonged to my Grandmother and then my mother. It must be 100 years old but still in perfect condition.

I have some silk scarves of a similar age and a cardigan that my grandmother knitted for me in the 1970s.

Of the things I wear, a Jaeger dress from the 1980s made from lawn which still looks great.

I do tend to keep things!

ProseccoStorm · 24/08/2022 20:56

I've got a belt that's 20yrs old, my favourite

Also some vintage stuff from family members: a Burberry Mac that's 1970s and two silk shirts from the late 1980s, wool blazer (sadly too small) that's 1990s.

I wear the belt, mac and shirts all the time.

Eyesopenwideawake · 24/08/2022 21:00

I have a Levi's sweatshirt that I bought in about 1981. Only stopped wearing it last year as it's almost completely transparent.

Dox9 · 24/08/2022 21:02

Black leather knee high boots that cost me a months wages from my pt uni job in 2001. They have been re-heeled many many times and I still get them out every winter.

IceStationZebra · 24/08/2022 21:03

A denim jacket from about 1998/1999. It doesn’t fit me too well at the moment but once I’ve lost a bit of weight I’ll be wearing it again.

Vicliz24 · 24/08/2022 21:06

I have an original Bat out of Hell T-shirt from 1978 and an underskirt petticoat I was bought for my 13th birthday in 1977

ODFOx · 24/08/2022 21:06

I have a really flattering 1920s cut dress that I bought from Dorothy Perkins in 1984.3. It doesn't fit right now.
When I lose 3st I'm getting it out and wearing it with the pvc purple courts I wore back then. As neither item were in period at the time they have made an appearance in the 90s and 00s and looked great.
3 stone and I'll be back in the outfit. Stylised but lovely.

JamMakingWannaBe · 24/08/2022 21:06

This thread has inspired me to loose my "Covid stone" to get back into my vintage winter wardrobe!

TheBirdintheCave · 24/08/2022 21:06

My great great aunt's fluffy wool boa and lace collars from the 1920s :D
