Anyone in their 50s and decided against Botox, fillers or anything but face cream?

I just wondered, prompted by the many recent threads. And not because you can't afford it either. I can afford them but have decided to age naturally for various reasons.

Feeling a little lonely though!

@Tabbouleh yes true. Sorry for trespassing!

Baldieheid · 15/08/2022 09:02

I remember seeing Davina McCall saying that she'd had to choose between her arse or her face ie she kept her weight down for her body but it left her face hollow. I don't know if she's had any fillers etc but I suspect not, as she has lovely smile lines round her mouth when she grins, and she looks like herself. Not sure what my point is, it's just an observation of something that struck me when she said it.

None of your business about my qualifications, occupation or anything else, Milky.

I've clearly hit a nerve with you, so I do genuinely apologise for upsetting you, but you're in danger of hijacking the thread for no real purpose so I think you should stop now. I can't see the point in engaging with you further I'm afraid.

I am very happy to end the derail. But my goodness, what a lot of projection! I am not angry. I am not upset! Furthermore, you told me to ask you questions to clarify once I'd "caught up". So I asked... It's all so bizarre and funny!

Snoredoeurve · 15/08/2022 17:58

Can anyone tell me then why some women get the dropped face look?

Im thinking of several women who you would expect to be able to afford to go to the very best who have ended up like this.

Floisme · 15/08/2022 18:22

From my experience it's not just your face that drops. Everything drops.
Which is why in my humble opinion, an unlined forehead is at best, no help whatsoever and at worst, can look positively weird.

Im not talking about normal, slow aging though.

I meant someone like Sarah Ferguson whos face appears to have collapsed.
I didnt really want to name names and shes a lovely woman but what has caused that?

BlossomsOnATree · 15/08/2022 20:15

I think cheekbones have a lot to do with it so if they are high/strong they still hold your face up and give it shape, even if it’s wrinkly. Like Katherine Hepburn in old age.

maybe Botox can be a factor too but I hadn’t heard of that before this thread.

Tabbouleh · 16/08/2022 06:07

Has anyone been watching The Staircase? When Juliette Binoche came on, both DH and I gasped at how well she has aged. Silver hair and what looks like her natural face? Though one never knows with women in film. Tres elegant either way.

Ah sorry I misunderstood. I don't know the answer to that!

SimonaRazowska · 16/08/2022 09:01

Sarah probably does not have very good bone structure?

TheGetaway · 16/08/2022 10:50

What’s the opinion on this thread about microcurrent treatments and LED masks?

Are they more acceptable than Botox and fillers?

AllJustATrialOfErrors · 16/08/2022 13:18

I’d be terrified of it going wrong!

I’m 60 next month. Sometimes, I’ll treat myself to a more expensive wonder cream but always come back to Nivea Q10. What I don’t like is marionette lines because they make me look tired and sad/cross. Ahh well…

My niece had lip fillers and her face reacted very badly. So far, 18 months of very peculiar looking lips. She keeps saying they’re back to normal now but they aren’t.

AllJustATrialOfErrors · 16/08/2022 13:36

@krill

The unlined, allegedly look 10/20 years younger crowd, but only use Ponds or Nivea cream. There's always lots of those on these threads, no photos of proof ever provided though 😅

I use Nivea and am posting a photo! Always have likes Nivea apart from occasional forays into something a little more expensive from M&S or No7. Now, back with Nivea. Am 60 in September and get told I look “well” for 59. I don’t “do” sun as it brings me out in hives; has done since I was a kid. I’ve good genes from mum and dad both.

I've not tried either. As regards what's acceptable, I personally tend to draw the line at a cosmetic product or procedure that requires a clinical practitioner / prescription. I'll concede it's not always a clear line, (e.g. teeth) but as a general principle, I may be vain but I don't think looking older should be a medical issue. Plus I'm a wuss. That's not a judgement on anyone else, just my own view.

In reality, I normally draw a line well before then. That's partly because, as I've already said, looking older affects your whole body so I don't see the point of just focusing on your face. It's partly because I have sensitive skin so tend to avoid new products and procedures. Party I'm lazy and can't be bothered with most skincare regimes. And partly because I'm far more interested in clothes than I am in my face.

AllJustATrialOfErrors · 16/08/2022 13:48

@Floisme Im not a natural clothes horse which is probably why I do “face”!

Must lose 10lbs (again) but frightened my face will collapse! 😂

Floisme · 16/08/2022 13:56

Well I disagree that you need a clothes horse body to be interested! I just like clothes for their own sake and I'm fascinated by the construction and also by changes in fashion. But yeah I get that some people just enjoy skin care - and also make up - more than I do.

CuriousMama · 16/08/2022 14:04

54 and no. I have good genes and oily skin though no spots now. Had acne for years.
Only started moisturising at 50. Should have started earlier.
I get taken from 30s sometimes though wouldn't agree.

Prettypussy · 16/08/2022 16:00

I don't think it makes you look younger, just strange! I'm a fan of a good moisturiser and makeup to improve looks. It all washes off then at the end of the day!

90redbaloons · 16/08/2022 16:15

@AllJustATrialOfErrors you are stunning. You look very like Meryl Streep

Blossomtoes · 16/08/2022 17:32

I’ve rejected the idea because I’m too vain. I really like my face and the thought of anything going wrong horrifies me. I heard Brix Smith talking about ageing and she recounted a story about having botox and ending up looking as if she’d had a stroke. I’ll stick with my lines.

AllJustATrialOfErrors · 16/08/2022 19:13

@Floisme I just find that whatever I wear doesn’t look that great so, I guess that’s why clothes and clothes shopping doesn’t interest me much.

Recently, I’ve culled my small wardrobe and have charity shopped stuff that I know would be better suited to someone else, is all.

90 Red Balloons, thanks. Used to get that a lot when I was younger. I honestly think it’s staying out of the sun (because I had to) has helped.

You're a classic beauty. Love your face 😻

AllJustATrialOfErrors · 17/08/2022 10:30

I’m a classic beauty with a face full of spots this morning @CuriousMama 🙄 I GIVE UP on SPF 50. Have tried them all. Three or four days in, the “reaction” to whatever’s in them, begins!
