When to not wear a bikini?

I'm 43 and around a size 12-14. Going away next week and for the first time ever feel like I'm too old for a bikini. When is it not ok to wear a bikini? Can I still get away with it with a bit of belly flab or should I go fro swim suits? I've bought 3 swim suits today but feel like it won't feel like a holiday without my bikini

When it's too cold.

I'm 50, 3st overweight, and I wear a bikini. (Not every day, but by the beach and in the garden.)

Nyancat · 31/07/2022 00:41

Never, except to a water park where you want everything contained as you fly down a slide at speed, swimsuit then.

Threelittlelambs · 31/07/2022 00:44

53 still in a bikini!!

W00p · 31/07/2022 00:48

I saw some 80 year olds on the beach in bikinis (we got talking as I had babies with me) Then one of them took the bikini top off for a bit of topless sunbathing. That was my epiphany.

ouch321 · 31/07/2022 00:52

Never worn one personally.
Even a regular swimsuit is more revealing than I like.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 31/07/2022 00:55

Oh gosh at 43 you’ve got years and years of bikini wearing left in you!! As for size that really doesn’t matter either.

FrankGrillosFloof · 31/07/2022 00:56

When you’re jumping off rocks into the sea and don’t want to lose your top, giving all the snorkellers an eyeful.

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/07/2022 00:58

Wear that bikini! I'm 46 and still do. Once you're on holiday you'll notice women of all shapes and sizes wearing them. Really, no-one cares.

When to not wear a bikini ? answer - when you’re dead, it’s not suitable attire for a coffin.

StarlightLady · 31/07/2022 06:42

OP, l am a similar age and size to you. Not only do l still give a bikini an outing, l often forgo the top half. Live life to the full!

WhereAreWeNow · 31/07/2022 06:48

46 and still wearing my bikini. I wear a one piece if my stomach is sunburnt and needs a break from the sun or if I'm at a swimming pool in England.

Neolara · 31/07/2022 06:53

Another one saying just wear the bikini.

AnyFucker · 31/07/2022 07:06

For a job interview

emmetgirl · 31/07/2022 07:09

I'm 55 and still wear one. If someone doesn't like the way I look they're welcome to look at something else.

KangarooKenny · 31/07/2022 07:09

I’m in my 50’s with peri menopause fat back and tummy, I’ll be wearing mine 🤣

Suprima · 31/07/2022 07:15

At a waterpark or in the supermarket or maybe church

men don’t feel the need to slip into all in ones when they get older and a bit flabby do they?

why on earth, at the young age of 43 would you think you need to cover up?

QuentininQuarantino · 31/07/2022 07:33

In the snow, at work (unless a lifeguard!), to church…

I live in Spain, Spanish women wear them until death. Often topless. It’s hot, you don’t want a sweaty Lycra tummy.

HotDogKetchup · 31/07/2022 07:34

It’s always ok to wear a bikini. I am aboard for the first time after my second baby. I used to be topless all the time. Now my tits are sad and my belly saggy. I was nervous about a bikini but loads of women of all shapes and sizes are wearing them and I’ve realised it doesn’t matter and wear what you want. Odd to say but I’ve found it really empowering and been enjoying wearing a bikini all week

Workyticket · 31/07/2022 07:39

Wear the bikini! I started a thread rhe other day about this - I'm on holiday now and literally every shape and size are in bikinis looking fabulous

hidethetoaster · 31/07/2022 07:50

Love the positive vibes but why can't it be ok to just wear a cossie? Must we bare our bodies to the max in order to 'live life to the full'?
I'm similar age and shape to you OP. I'm taking 2 sporty bikinis and a one piece cossie on holiday. I'll see what feels good when I'm there. And I'll live life to the full jumping off rocks and chucking myself around roller coasters regardless of what I'm wearing!

Cinemaandsweets · 31/07/2022 10:07

You can never be too old or the wrong shape/size for a bikini.

The only time it's in appropriate to wear a bikini is when it's too cold or when it might fall off.

Wear a bikini with pride.

smileandsing · 31/07/2022 10:15

When you don't want to,
When it's too cold,
Where it's inappropriate to do so, e.g. a restaurant or shop, on the school run, etc
At a water park, no one needs to be losing bits of clothing on fast slides!
Never because of your age or body shape.
Look around the pool/beach, they're everywhere! Are you judging those in bikinis? Exactly. No one cares what you wear except you
