Does anyone use Shein?

They seem to have some lovely dresses in there, but I wonder how they look IRL? Is it a case of ending up sending them all back?

I've always been happy with everything I've ordered from Shein. Never had any issues with anything.

BiscoffSundae · 23/07/2022 16:09

Yes they are fine, only ordered kids clothes but they’ve all been good true to size etc

boatahoy · 23/07/2022 16:13

I've never ordered anything but I admired a dress one of my SILs was wearing and she said it was from Shein - it was her first time ordering for there too and she was pleasantly surprised. I am also considering ordering a couple of dresses since seeing her one.

Shady practices, unlivable wages, environmentally damaging…
duclarion.com/2022/04/shein-continues-to-profit-despite-unethical-practices/

Xztop · 23/07/2022 16:17

Top tip is to read the reviews before you order.
I've always been really happy with what I've bought

JudithandHolofernesHead · 23/07/2022 16:21

It was the go to place for my DD's generation about four years ago...but not now because of the environmental impact and how they treat their workers.

Afterfire · 23/07/2022 16:27

It’s all good until you have to return something and then their customer service is unbelievably shite. Both adult dd and I have had them deny receiving returns and only refunding for half the items and then ignoring messages etc.

Blossomandbee · 23/07/2022 16:28

I've got a Shein dress I bought secondhand. Its very pretty and fits nice, but the material is awful. It's like that thick polyester you get on some vintage clothes and it traps the heat in like wearing a bin bag.
So it depends if that would bother you

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 23/07/2022 16:33

There was a dress in our charity shop - pretty from a distance but the fabric is horrible and the hems aren't proper hems - just overlocked so the neckline looked awful. And very cheap!

Nuisancepenguin · 23/07/2022 16:40

I’ve been pretty happy with what I’ve ordered from there, quality similar to Primark and Peacocks. Had to return something and customer services were good.

wormshuffled · 23/07/2022 16:42

I've made 4 orders from Shein of multiple items and kept the lot. In terms of quality, you get what you pay for. It's basically a mail order Primark but with thousands of reviews featuring photos of the items in real people if every size.
Yes I have questioned the ethics, however even expensive retailers use cheap labour abroad. Unless you make your own clothes how can we ever be sure who made it and if they were paid/treated well?

Because there are investigations and reports into traders, and shine comes out as worst and horrific. But that never stops anyone

Love shein!!

Really impressed with the quality given the price. The sizing is a bit hit and miss but and their returns policy is great

Peachy66 · 23/07/2022 16:54

I made my first purchase last month (4 dresses, shoes, bags) was pleasantly surprised with my items, in a good way. I had to return one dress and received my refund immediately. I have since ordered another 7 dresses which are also perfect. If something does not fit or your disappointed with anything, returns are free, so you won't be out of pocket. I also find the sizing to be accurate.

chipsandpeas · 23/07/2022 16:55

ive bought a few things and been happy with them - it can be upto 2 weeks for delivery tho unless you pay for express

Happygirl79 · 23/07/2022 16:58

After I read about their shady practices I said I wouldn't order again from them and I won't although the dresses I bought from them were lovely

woodstocky · 23/07/2022 17:02

How long do orders take to arrive? Going away at the end of august but not sure if stuff will come in time?

Sandra1984 · 23/07/2022 17:06

I’ve been buying 4 years from
shein, it’s super cheap and has really pretty stuff but keep in mind the quality is usually awful. I love the review system that shows you how things really look. From every Shein haul I buy I usually return 70% of the stuff because it doesn’t look like the picture, it’s very bad quality or size is wrong. Shipping and return are very fast. This said I’ve found some really nice very cheap
stuff in Shein, from curtains to rugs and clothes. I love Shein!

Are you really not bothered about the practices, or just not aware of them?

Isabelle70 · 23/07/2022 17:09

I have ordered a dress, took 2 weeks to come with the free postage. Second order was another dress and those cloud slides they took 2 weeks too. On the advice of a colleague I did iron both items before trying them on. I really read the comments and only went for viscose as a fabric.

Iamthewombat · 23/07/2022 17:10

This question comes up every few months and the thread always goes the same way.

When Shein’s dodgy environmental practices and use of cheap and (alleged) slave labour are mentioned, the answers are always:

”yeah, but cheap clothes! Cheap clothes! We like cheap clothes!”

”what about poor people in the U.K. who NEED cheap clothes so that they can order 7 dresses at once?”

”yeah, but ALL high street retailers use the same suppliers as Shein [spoiler: they don’t], so I can carry on buying my cheap clothes with a clear conscience. I deserve my cheap clothes!”

SavingsThreads · 23/07/2022 17:13

If something does not fit or your disappointed with anything, returns are free, so you won't be out of pocket.

Do you realise their returns go straight to landfill as it's cheaper than repackaging for sale?

Fast fashion makes up 10% of global carbon emissions.

If I had to stop using a store because it’s unethical Practices I would need to sew my own clothes? Do you shop at Zara, H&M or Nike? they’re just as bad or worse.

Sandra1984 · 23/07/2022 17:18

If I had to shop for clothes that were not made in poor countries or in China I would need to stick to high couture or second hand clothes.

PennyPencils · 23/07/2022 17:33

Ordered once. Material isn't nice. Hot and sweaty summer dress is almost unwearable in the hot climate I live in.

There is some linen on there but I just can't afford it.
