Perfect lipstick?

Hi,
I have tried (and mostly failed) to find the perfect lipstick for me for the last 30 years. I don’t wear anything on my lips usually but I want to find a nice cerise/bright darkish pink to wear. Is there a good beauty counter that I can visit? I have tried the ones online and the shade seems to suit me (I am a cool winter) but whenever I buy one it’s too bright or has too much brown in it. Any recommendations?
I have attached a cropped pic for context, I have a tan due to a recent holiday

Revlon cherries in the snow

I just got Mac Captive which is a pinky plum.

lisa Eldridge website (online only) is worth a look as their Love of My Life and Rose Official sound what you are looking for! They are stunning. If you want to go instore, try Nars or Mac

Jellywobblescobbles · 17/07/2022 16:15

PS for reference of my recs I am the same colouring as you

Bobbi Brown crushed lip colour has a shade called watermelon.
Stila stay all day liquid lip has some fuchsia/cerise tones too.

Mac chatterbox

seaUrchinOne · 17/07/2022 19:09

I'm done with lipsticks, ever since I tried the Bobbi brown lip balm tints, the raspberry one gives a dark subtle pink/red it's sheer with just enough colour to look polished, it plumps the lips too, they are much more wearable than strong lip colours imo.

Thanks all, some good suggestions here.

Estee Lauder - Pure colour envy.

TattiePants · 17/07/2022 21:14

I was also going to suggest Lisa Eldridge. Each shade is modelled by multiple women, each with a different skin tone so you can get an idea of what it will look like.

HedyPrism · 17/07/2022 21:19

I second Estee Lauder. Powerful is good but maybe a bit pink rather than raspberry. Fragile ego is amazing but discontinued.

I reckon Dominant would be good on a winter: https://www.temptalia.com/product/estee-lauder-pure-color-envy-sculpting-lipstick/dominant/

Hi I have looked out a couple of lipsticks/glosses that I have, and tried this one on. Thoughts? I’m worried it’s too dark, especially with a tan in summer.

You're very pretty.
Someone once told me to match your lipstick to the inside of your mouth - worth a shot.
I think something like NYX Shanghai would work well on you - a warm rose shade.
I think that lipstick you posted is too dark and blue based.
You look nicer in the 1st photo without any on.

Jellywobblescobbles · 18/07/2022 19:21

i think the lipstick on the photos is too dark and purpley toned. Try a mid pink shade.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2022 19:22

Match your lipstick to the pad of your finger tip, if it look right it'll look right on your lips too.

Lipstick in the photo is ok but I think there's nicer out there for you.

PeachMelba78 · 18/07/2022 19:44

Thanks all - I agree that it’s a bit dark. Kids aren’t keen either!
I’ve never heard of matching to your fingertip or inside of your mouth.
Its hard as I do have a natural darkish lip tone so colours often go on darker on me.

@JMAngel1 you are very kind - at 44 I feel washed up a lot of the time and I am struggling with ageing.

Sorry I meant to say that I will try out the fingertip and inside of mouth when I go to try some on.

Lisa Eldridge 💋

Homewardbound2022 · 18/07/2022 22:04

You're colouring doesn't look cool winter to me, not contrasting enough, more autumn as your skin looks warm.

I love chantecaille lip chic it's got a very moisturising formulation.

What about hyacinth or tea rose. I've got camellia it's a great neutral. I wear it all the time at work.

I've got similar colouring to you although haven't formally had my colours done but suspect I'm a winter as quite a few of the colours on the palette are the ones I gravitate towards.

Iamneverfull · 18/07/2022 23:46

Try the Berry dior lipglow or another more sheer Berry or Rosewood toned lipbalm/stick. Clinique bare pop is good and try the Charlotte Tilbury sheer/balm lipsticks. Laura mercier are bringing out a really nice range of balms that adapt to your colouring and very flattering.

PeachMelba78 · 19/07/2022 06:31

@Homewardbound2022 I’m usually much paler and my hair desperately needs to be toned after my holiday. I am definitely a winter but I struggle with lip colours, I think a lot of it is due to having naturally dark lips - I don’t suit any nudes really and I haven’t found a red I like either!

I think you should probably go into a department store beauty counter or a Space NK - they will colour match you to your most flattering lip colours and you won’t make an expensive mistake. Enjoy!
