Perfect lipstick?

Hi,
I have tried (and mostly failed) to find the perfect lipstick for me for the last 30 years. I don’t wear anything on my lips usually but I want to find a nice cerise/bright darkish pink to wear. Is there a good beauty counter that I can visit? I have tried the ones online and the shade seems to suit me (I am a cool winter) but whenever I buy one it’s too bright or has too much brown in it. Any recommendations?
I have attached a cropped pic for context, I have a tan due to a recent holiday

I went to a mac counter in Selfridges with a similar brief and they were great. I was amazed how quickly the makeup artist nailed what I was after. I went for a shade called fast play and am happy with it

Boots no 7 is also good for suggesting something that suits your skin tone. I've had 2 really bright shades from there that I'd never have tried myself but their little machine said they'd suit my skin and I have to concede that it was absolutely right! Think they are called Soft tulip and paprika

I'm a cool winter, but I'm pale with dark hair and rosy cheeks. I have Mac Girl About Town (dark bright pink) and Mac Rebel (berry) I also like Clinique pop in Plum Pop an for a nude I have Clinique Pop Foundation lipstick in Blush, a mauvey pink. For nudes I stick with rose pinks and mauves. Steer clear of browns and oranges unless they are coral toned. You want to look for blue reds, or blue pinks. Think clear and bright colours rather than ruddy shades. Think Kathy Perry

I've cool colouring myself, dark hair and very pale complexion.
Recently bought Chanel Blast 146. A lovely vibrant red but not OTT for daytime.
It will also flatter your nice white teeth!

Puddlelane123 · 19/07/2022 10:28

No recommendations for lipstick as I have the same issue, but I’d love to know what skincare you use. Your skin is absolutely glowing and flawless!

PeachMelba78 · 19/07/2022 12:17

@Puddlelane123 I am 44 now and a former beauty therapist.
I use microneedling and have used laser. I use retinol which I have used for decades, and I have had a tiny bit of filler in my nasiolabial lines and a thread lift. I also use a microcurrent machine daily.
But number 1 is factor 50 spf every day!
I am incredibly vain which is not great, I was told from the age of 8 how pretty I was which has made ageing very difficult.

Thanks for all the beauty counter suggestions. I will need to go into town and spend time going round them all!

I think that colour is lovely on you!

mimiasovitch · 20/07/2022 16:30

Charlotte Tilbury 'the Queen' and Nars 'Vera' are my favourite pinks, that are more natural looking (though as a winter to me natural means a tad more toned down rather than my lips but better 😁).

My favourite lipstick (Mac Really Me) has been discontinued. Anybody got a suggestion for something similar?

I googled it and it's identical to a Essence one which I LOVED which was also discontinued and I've been searching for a replacement ever since 😢

MistyRock · 22/07/2022 07:50

Here's Mac Really Me and dupe list. Not sure of the availability in the UK.

MistyRock · 22/07/2022 07:53

Maybelline nude nuance is apparently also a dupe.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/07/2022 21:49

Thanks Misty. I'll have a look at Mac Driftwood and Maybelline nude nuance.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/07/2022 22:03

Driftwood looks like it might be suitable for me! Thank you.

😊

Reesewithafork · 22/07/2022 23:06

Mac Modesty. I never wear lipstick for the reasons you listed plus I have quite naturally off white teeth so I’m very self conscious about wearing lipstick.
it’s the perfect every day shade and is a lovely formulation.

You're colouring doesn't look cool winter to me, not contrasting enough, more autumn as your skin looks warm.

I agree no way are you a cool winter. Winters have much greater contrast in their features. If you are SURE you're cool you'd be a summer, but from the pics you look more warm to me. I don't think a raspberry lip will suit you at all

That’s interesting feedback - this is what I look like when I’m not tanned and my hair is less bleached.
This is more my natural hair colour, with a small amount of highlights/ombré on the ends. My eyes are hazel.

Pretty hard to tell without your eyes, but I think Hazel is normally a warm colour. I know colour theory usually says hair shouldn't impact on your colours but I think it does to an extent, you look a lot different in the pic with a tan and light hair than pale skin and dark hair, obviously. I think you'll have to adjust your make up and clothes colours depending on how your skin and hair look at any given time. Perhaps a summer palette would be generally more adaptable than a winter one

paradyning · 23/07/2022 09:08

Velvet blush? Or there's a lighter version

PeachMelba78 · 23/07/2022 09:36

@tedioususername I appreciate your input. I think for me the main thing is that I love wearing white, it really suits me, so any other palettes that say I shouldn’t wear it really put me off. My eyes change colour, sometimes they are brown, sometimes green as well as hazel obviously.
I do agree that a tan and highlighted hair really change how I look, even my dark cerise nail varnish on my toes is too dark for me right now but I know it will look good when my tan fades.
