Anyone else got big feet???

I've got size 8 feet. Shoes look so nice in shops and when they bring them out in the 8 they never look so appealing. I'm 5ft 6 so not sure why I've ended up with big feet(I also seem to have really long fingers/hands) Was looking in several places today- Primark, New Look etc and they had a 7 but no 8s. Im not sure if that's because they're a popular size or whether it's unusual and they don't stock them. I wonder what the most common shoe size is for women?

Anyway, it doesn't bother me that much and I guess I have to embrace them!! Does anyone else have big feet like me??

@TheBikiniExpert I'm pretty sure that my feet didn't grow any more after 12 even though height wise I grew another 8 inches. I'm no biologist but I think the smallest bones stop growing first?

In all honesty that was the only time in my life when I worried about how big my feet looked and whether shoes looked enormous or not. Once the rest of me grew up and out I never gave it another thought.

I remember going to Oxford Street for the first time as a young teen in the early 80s and Lily & Skinner had a whole basement floor devoted to size 8+, it was so exciting! There was nothing like that anywhere near my home town and (in those days) Magnus shoes were hideous

I used to be a size 8 and used to squeeze my feet into size 7s when I was a teenager. As I got older I've gone up a size or half a size and usually buy 9s from Clarks.

Size 9 (EU 43) here. I'm 5'7. I'm also cursed with giant hands and a big, fat head. Struggle to find shoes to fit, as well as hats, gloves, rings and bangles!

I remember shoe shopping in the 1990s and always having to shop in the men's section. That was utterly humiliating as a teenage girl. Things have improved since then, but not much because there are still so many brands that don't go higher than an 8. Although Office do size 9 in many styles, they're not a true size 9... more like an 8.5.

I now mostly shop at Air & Grace for trainers and Ugg do a good selection in larger sizes. TOMS also do larger sizes, but I find they come up small. Converse are the worst thing ever for my feet... they look like canoes.

No one as big as me. I’m size 11 and i’m asian. I only wear man sneakers 😭😭😭😭

@JellyBellyNelly do their quality good? I should try buying in specialist store

I am a 43/44 and dreading going back to full working from office and having to squeeze into court shoes and formal shows that are always too small - I've gotten away with working in socks most of the last couple of years, and have used trainers for shopping and social outings.

There was a shop called Medissa shoes that would tour the country with two visits a year to different cities. It was great to travel to these sales and watch tall, gorgeous women of all ages getting really excited about being able to try on different shoes and find good fits. Alas, Medissa is no more...

I remember Medissa shoes. It was owned by a very nice man called Ian who would source random shoes I’d seen on American websites. He never let me down.

@NRRK28 im never disappointed with my purchases and like everything else you get what you pay for. I like it that they’re not just shoes made big. They’re shoes made by good manufacturers who’ll upsize some of their range for theses shops. They’re in proportion. Also you can measure your foot and they’ll be able to tell you what size you need as they measure the inside of the shoes to see how long it is then they’ll tell you if you need to size up or down.

I’m size 8 and hate it!! I’m only 5ft 4 so can’t understand why I have such big feet, jealous of women who have tiny feet!

NRRK28 · 10/07/2022 11:22

@JellyBellyNelly great news! I’ll shop around in the website you gave me. Thanjs.

where is the website for medissa shoes? I google it and apparently its permanently closed? Or am i wrong?

serendipitea · 10/07/2022 14:41

Yes Medissa is permanently closed. I just had to mention it because there was this great buzz with scores of women finally finding good quality shoes they could try on and choose. Luckily I stocked up on many shoes before they closed.
