Anyone else got big feet???

Bigfooty · 08/07/2022 21:32

I've got size 8 feet. Shoes look so nice in shops and when they bring them out in the 8 they never look so appealing. I'm 5ft 6 so not sure why I've ended up with big feet(I also seem to have really long fingers/hands) Was looking in several places today- Primark, New Look etc and they had a 7 but no 8s. Im not sure if that's because they're a popular size or whether it's unusual and they don't stock them. I wonder what the most common shoe size is for women?

Anyway, it doesn't bother me that much and I guess I have to embrace them!! Does anyone else have big feet like me??

Size 8 but 9 in anything narrow. For comfy and work shoes I love Skechers, they come up big and wide so I can sometimes even get away with a 7. Only problem is they always seem to get smelly.

LostInTheColonies · 08/07/2022 22:51

@Theala I'm no longer in the UK - NZ instead and usually the situation here is even worse - economies of scale and all that!

The shop in question is Willow Shoes. They ship internationally.

First time I found them and tried on more than one shoe in my size - lots of styles - I nearly cried.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 08/07/2022 22:52

Oh try plus size shops too, Yours clothing and Simply be have loads of styles in 8 and 9 and do wide fitting and wide calves for boots.

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 08/07/2022 22:55

I’ve been size 9 since I was 11 years old and 5’1”. I’m 5’10” now (have been for more than 4 decades). I struggled to get shoes when younger then, when I came to London for university, was delighted to find shops with shoes that fit me.
Except they didn’t, they were size 8 and I now have hammer toes from years of wearing too small shoes. Can’t believe I got to over 50 before I realised you were not meant to be in pain when wearing shoes.

Anyway, I second PP re Magnus Shoes. If you’re in London, have a wander down Chiltern Street, near Baker Street station. There are several shops for large footed women there.

Rosessmelllike · 08/07/2022 22:55

Yes! I wear walking boots a lot and actually get the men's size 8, which are a bit wider as well so perfect for me! But going out shoes, very difficult.

Hippopotas · 08/07/2022 22:55

I’m a size 8 but I am 5ft 9

i do have tiny hands though 😂

kerkyra · 08/07/2022 22:58

Size 9 here. Found I can't be fussy with shoes,I either wear mens trainers or have a look for cheap and cheerful in shoe zone where they do my size ( though one foot seems to have grown so hangs out the sandles a bit!).

JellyBellyNelly · 08/07/2022 22:59

The shops I’ve linked to all do worldwide postage.

Vthirtyone · 08/07/2022 22:59

8 isn't big! At least you can buy shoes in actual shops, I have to just shop online for my size 10 plates of meat. I just wear trainers mostly. Mens obvs.
But yes I second that street near Baker St station where there are loads of big feet shops, it's amazing. Its the same road as the Long Tall Sally shop (I'm 6'2)
Easier to buy big shoes now than when I was younger at least.

Phrenologistsfinger · 08/07/2022 23:03

Also size 7.5 or 8 (EU41), 5ft7 with wide feet. It’s tough finding shoes in my size, always has been. And they never look as good in a larger scale either!

That’s right. Magnus and Crispins are just opposite LTS.

Cinderella Shoes are based in Ireland and are online only.

amazon also do shoes in extended sizes.

CheeseMaison · 08/07/2022 23:15

Feel your pain. I'm 5'10 and size 7.5 and 8 in heels as they swell so I have to buy at least a half size bigger and it's getting impossible to find them these days. I have big hands, long arms and look like a avatar as well with wide feet with bunions. Always wanted to be petite with small feet, hands, ankles and wrists but nope. Shoes look nice when they are smaller just like everything else, babies, puppies, kittens etc.

The secret is buying from specialized shoe shops who don’t just have shoes made bigger. They have them done in the correct proportions. I have some beautiful shoes that look really good and people are surprised when I tell them what size I am.

TitInATrance · 08/07/2022 22:33

Same as you, have to wear men’s gloves and shoe size 41. Further complicated by a huge bunion on one foot, so one foot is extra wide and the other isn’t. I have more shoes than ever before because if they fit I have to buy them before they disappear!

Same height and shoe size and I also have a large bunion on one foot. Had years of narrow feet and needing shoes to keep my feet in and now I need shoes that are wide at the front! Would be interested in recommendations for good non frumpy shoes.

Auldspinster · 08/07/2022 23:23

5ft 7.5 with size 42 feet, also annoyed by size 41 shoes labelled as size 8.

hennybeans · 08/07/2022 23:34

Size 9/43 here. Really frustrating when they mark size 42 as a 9. It's not!

Boobahs · 08/07/2022 23:36

I'm a 8. I think lots of shops have stopped stocking less popular sizes in store. I was told by Matalan that they only sell size 3 and 8 online now 🙄

SweatyChamoisPad · 08/07/2022 23:38

5ft5.5 and a size 9. Was an 8.5 but I’ve had to go up a half size - my GP said that as you hit perimenopause things start to atrophy - skin becomes less flexible, things start to sag, and the tendons in your feet slacken. So it’s not that your feet get bigger - they just spread more. I mainly live in adidas Gazelles or Converse. Sometimes M&S shoes are sized wrong and I can squeeze into an 8 but my trainers, cycling shoes and walking boots are a 9 and my rock climbing shoes are a 10!

thisyearsuckssofar · 08/07/2022 23:40

I've wife feet, size 7's. I'm only 5 ft 3ish. I can get shoes easily enough, but anything dainty (most sandals) are a no no.

thisyearsuckssofar · 08/07/2022 23:41

Wife lol! I meant wide.

vdbfamily · 08/07/2022 23:45

I am UK 11 and have 2 daughters size 10. My DH and DS both size 13. Shoe shopping is not fun in our house. My youngest had found a great company that do platforms and funky shoes but trying to find her some silver prom shoes at the moment is a challenge. ASOS have large sizes quite cheap. Long tall Sally too.

APurpleSquirrel · 08/07/2022 23:47

I'm a size 8 & 5ft 7 & a half but wide. Mine have definitely got bigger since having kids - in my 20s I was a 7 & occasionally got away with 6.5.
I don't have too much trouble though the range isn't there. I shop in Clark's, Moshulu, Fat Face, Keds, Sketchers, Converse.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 08/07/2022 23:50

No a size 4 and tiny feet which always ache. But my sister who is only 2 inches taller than me has a size 7 and really wide feet and does not know where she got them from and her feet ache also. Amazon do lots of lovely boots and shoes and make have better size choices if that helps.

Bobbybobbins · 08/07/2022 23:50

I'm a 7 with big hands too and feel that at 5'5 they are disproportionate. Can't wear Uggs or anything like that as it looks like I have massive clown feet!

Cinderella shoes have a good range of silver shoes. I bought a pair a few days ago. A nice evening type strappy sandal with a heel and ankle strap. I think they were even vegan friendly but that wasn’t why I bought them.
