Is this dress inappropriate for a wedding?

My boyfriend said he thinks this dress isn't appropriate for a wedding because it's red? This is new to me? The last two weddings we've been to I've wore red and he didn't say anything. So I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are is this appropriate?

I don't know what thread this belongs in!

Why ask for opinions if you're just going to ignore it?

bettbburg · 25/06/2022 10:43

The colour is ok.

If you have the figure for it is an attention grabbing dress so not really appropriate for a wedding. At a wedding it will make you look desperate to draw all attention away from the bride and onto you. Just my opinion but you did ask 😊

I agree. I cringe when I see women at weddings who have dressed in an attempt to upstage the bride. This does that. Don't wear it.

The last two weddings we've been to I've wore red and he didn't say anything.

Do you have pics of these two dresses, OP, so we can see your general style, and what the difference is that made them more appropriate? Then Mumsnet can advise rather than tease.

Your boyfriend sounds very tactful. It may be that someone has said something to him, and he's been working out if or how to convey it to you.

GoldenSongbird · 25/06/2022 10:44

Usually the only people who change into a different outfit for evening are members of the wedding party ie bride or bridesmaids. I've never known a guest to change in the evening.

Cross-post!

This was the last wedding x

It's awful. Sorry, but it really is dreadful - like something that Cha Cha whatshername would wear in Grease.

Red is nice however that dress is not.

Well, it is nice but its giving off cruise ship lounge singer vibes.

RiaG91 · 25/06/2022 10:46

It's not the colour that jumps out at me but the style. I think it's too much as a guest to a wedding.

Ducksinthebath · 25/06/2022 10:48

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such unanimity. That should tell you something OP…

durianeater · 25/06/2022 10:48

The red dress at the last wedding is lovely. I'll be honest - I think you've pushed the shoulders too far down over your arms, further than they are designed to go and that can be seen by the way the fabric is wrinkling and the sleeves are putting pressure on your arms. I suppose my observation is that a wedding is different to going to a club, so dial down the sexy image? You would have looked just as stunning in that dress with the sleeves up where they should be. Sometimes less is more.
To answer the original question - of course you can wear red!

GodisaBC · 25/06/2022 10:48

The dress you’ve just posted isn’t appropriate for a wedding either.

Is the wedding in Rio during the Carnival? Will you be wearing fruit on your head? I'm not sure what that dress is appropriate for...

^I'm in tears!!

This dress is lovely. If this wedding is dressy, wear this!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 25/06/2022 10:52

I think the second dress is fine for a wedding

There's something about the 1st one though that's not giving off wedding vibes

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/06/2022 10:54

I struggle to see a single occasion where this dress would be appropriate. Halloween, maybe?

lostinwoods · 25/06/2022 10:54

The second dress is fine - perhaps not for the church part though (if it's a church wedding).

The first one is awful, I am sorry!

Sally090807 · 25/06/2022 10:54

Something like this is far nicer in my opinion

Stravaig · 25/06/2022 10:57

Lovely dress. The length is better. I still wouldn't combine bare shoulders and cleavage and bright red and lace fabric for a wedding. Perhaps if you limit yourself to one eye-catching feature - either revealing legs, or shoulders, or back, or cleavage, or a lace/sparkle fabric, or bright red colour? Keep everything else more subtle.

It really is the bride's day to be centre of attention, all day and all night. You'll be glad of the unwritten rules if you ever choose to get married.

Chikapu · 25/06/2022 10:58

Oh that's awful, totally inappropriate for any occasion.

KittyKittyKat · 25/06/2022 10:58

It’s so wrong for a wedding 😂 It’s like you’re shouting LOOK AT ME!!

I’m all for showing off your figure though and it would be perfect for a glam party. Most definitely not someone else’s wedding.

starfishmummy · 25/06/2022 11:00

Do you hate the bride?

JiminyGlick · 25/06/2022 11:00

The colour is not the issue.

That dress is gopping.
