If you met a woman in her 50s without many wrinkles or "11s"....

.... would you assume she had had Botox? This isn't a stealth brag btw, I am not referring to myself (though I have not had Botox). Just a general and random question.

Also, would it make a difference if the woman was Asian or black?

No 60 year old looks 30.. I agree. I’ve very few wrinkles, had no Botox or fillers and am in my 60s but no way would anyone think I’m in my 30s or 40s. I’ve had people guess I’m in my 50s but a lack of wrinkles doesn’t = very young looking. I’ve not many grey hairs either but I’m still not going to fool anyone that I’m 30 years younger than I am.

LizzieSiddal · 23/06/2022 18:16

You must have excellent genes and quite immobile faces. I have a smiley, creasy face and frown a lot too, so definitely getting wrinkles!

I do have excellent genes, both my mum and dad and looked much younger than their age, all their lives, also I’ve never smoked, and always used suntan lotion. I do smile and laugh a lot too!

IncompleteSenten · 23/06/2022 19:02

Not being wrinkly doesn't mean you don't look your age. If people think you don't look your age if you don't have the required amount of wrinkles they're fooling themselves.

I'm puffed up like an overstuffed sausage with every wrinkle filled in but look every year of my age +10%. 😁 It's the grey hair and the massive, massive dark bags under my eyes that do it .

And I'm sorry but no 60 year old looks 30. They just don't.

Also, what's wrong with looking 60?

Bearsan · 23/06/2022 20:29

I prefer to look good, have no desire to look younger. Women can still be attractive as they age. I don't want to look like the average 30 something they nearly all look massively overweight or at least fairly plump, not something I aspire to.

TheRealHousewife · 23/06/2022 20:33

I’m nearly 60. No 11s or many wrinkles in general. Always wear sunscreen & hat in sunny weather. No Botox or injectables have ever been near my face, nor will they ever be.

blueshoes · 23/06/2022 20:53

I am approaching mid-50s and don't have many wrinkles or 11s. I have never had botox. However, no one is going to mistake me for being much younger because my skin is slack and eye lids more hooded than a younger woman.

'Tis genetics. I also stay out of the sun.

Jewel1968 · 23/06/2022 20:55

I have virtually no wrinkles. However in other ways I look my age. It isn't all about wrinkles.

bevelino · 23/06/2022 21:26

goldfinchonthelawn · 23/06/2022 09:06

No. I have a friend who is in her sixties and looks thirty. Never had work done. She just has the most stunning skin.

I agree with everyone who says nobody can look thirty when aged sixty. It is unlikely given that it is not just your skin that gives away your decade. You can tell by your eyes and skeletal changes that occur naturally as you age, and there ain’t nothing wrong with that.

I have met plenty of women who look youthful, but none who look 30 years younger than their actual age.

giggyb · 23/06/2022 21:43

I know people in their 20s with 11 lines & people in their 60s without them. It's how some peoples faces move.

It must be something like that.

MsOllie · 23/06/2022 22:46

Weirdly my dad has wrinkles (72) but he looks so much younger than his age
Someone said to me they had never seen anyone look 15 years younger than they are, we saw my dad and she said "ok I take that back" Grin
It's got to be the genetics as I've seen him washing his face with fairy liquid before

I think it's from 70+ onwards that you notice some people looking noticeably older/younger than their peers. I suppose it's the age when the effects of genes and lifestyle begin to catch up with you.

Crispynoodle · 23/06/2022 22:57

Yup 56 white no wrinkles...it's in the genes and quite wasted on me since I don't really care much either way

Daisyroseandhyacinth · 23/06/2022 22:58

I actually can’t believe this is a serious question.

MsOllie · 23/06/2022 23:00

@RevoltingHumanHead definitely. I mean I won't use him as an example, he thinks 5 a day is 5 a week, never done any formal exercise and wore SPF in 1976. But he's always been active and worked until he was 70

covilha · 23/06/2022 23:00

No, just that she used Nivea
I meet your description
Caucasian. If that makes a difference?

Crispynoodle · 23/06/2022 23:18

Am raging! Was about to take a pic of close up of my wrinkle free forehead and eyes because some one asked for one further up in the thread (or down?) and I could see the beginnings of the 11s! I do agree with others though I definitely look my age!

SignOnTheWindow · 23/06/2022 23:21

Mid 40s and you can see some forehead wrinkles and the beginnings of 11s, but it's mostly the loss of elasticity in my face that gives away my age or even makes me look older (drooping eyelids, slightly slacker jawline than when I was in my 20s). The dark circles are due to a sleepless night and poorly fitting swimming goggles!

Being white with fair, dryish skin and spending my youth outdoors with an aversion to suncream hasn't helped. Nor has spending too much time frowning at my phone and pursing my lips.

I don't really care enough or earn enough to do anything about it. Plus, it pisses me off that women are made to feel so much worse about an aging face than men, which makes me even less inclined to put much effort into trying to look younger.

DiamondBright · 24/06/2022 00:29

I'm fairly young looking for my age, get lots of nice comments about my skin, I'm nearly 50 and could probably get away with claiming to be 10 years younger on a good day, but I definitely have fine lines and lots of creases when I smile that didn't used to be there.

I don't believe anyone over 50 has a completely natural line free face. You might not have deep lines and wrinkles but you will have lines and wrinkles.

Stravaig · 24/06/2022 06:53

Is underlying bone structure part of it? I've been adding laughter lines around my eyes since my twenties, and my skin is weather-beaten from lots of time outdoors. I'll look like a wizened old apple by my 70's or 80's. But I have a huge high forehead which is completely smooth. Even if I try an exaggerated frown, I can barely manage a shallow furrow. Any wrinkly high foreheads out there?

DrPayne · 24/06/2022 09:08

Yes I would assume botox if she is a white woman with a smooth forehead in her 50s and that's absolutely fine.

I have seen white women in their 20s with forehead wrinkles and crows feet but I could still tell they were young. There is more about the plumpness and texture of the skin, wrinkles that come from expressiveness versus gravity look different and then the obvious things like body tone, movement and dress sense.

I think in South Asian skin pigmentation and diabetes end up aging the skin otherwise if they're healthy and avoid the sun I think they could be in their 50s with no or minimal wrinkles, same as Black men and women. East Asians tend to be religious about sunscreen and avoiding the sun but the ones who neglected their skin or had a harsh life or unhealthy DO look their age. I think people tend to struggle to age other ethnciities than theirs unless they are are close with many people of that ethnicity.

@SignOnTheWindow beautiful eyebrows!
@DiamondBright I agree that you must have at least some fine lines around your eyes when you laugh. Perhaps people have poor eyesight or don't consider the fine ones to be proper wrinkles.

Daisyroseandhyacinth · 24/06/2022 09:17

I am 61. I have no lines or wrinkles apart from crows feet when I smile. I have never met anyone who has Botox. It wouldn’t cross my mind to have it either.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/06/2022 09:18

no. I don’t have 11s and I’m 59. No Botox.

palygold · 24/06/2022 10:04

You should check some of the other s&b threads, OP. There's always an over 50, 60, 70 poster who claims to be line free and attributes it to pond's cold cream or Nivea blue pot. No photos to back it up, mind.

I agree that being line free doesn't necessarily make a person look younger, and I don't know anyone who looked 30 years younger. My mother does have fine lines around her eyes at late 60s, but could pass for late 50s due to her lack of deep set lines elsewhere. Bone structure dies play a part as she has high cheekbones, slim face.

I think I'd rather wrinkles, as I age, than sagging, especially of lower face, as I think that's far more ageing. Facelifts appear to be the only real fix for that.

5128gap · 24/06/2022 10:20

I think to some extent people put together a whole set of age signifiers to decide how old someone looks. Particularly in the decades that span 30s to 50s.
If a woman is slim with a youthful figure, good posture, moves fluidly, has young hairstyle and clothes, and behaves in a less formal manner, then she will be generally be percieved to be younger, regardless of wrinkles or even some facial sagging (as long as its not extreme, making her face incongruous with the rest of her). People take in overall appearance and don't tend to examine the minute details.
