If you met a woman in her 50s without many wrinkles or "11s"....

.... would you assume she had had Botox? This isn't a stealth brag btw, I am not referring to myself (though I have not had Botox). Just a general and random question.

Also, would it make a difference if the woman was Asian or black?

Forehead has no 11 but I do have noticeable horizontal frown lines from too much raising my eyebrows at the kids.
Age 52.5, no botox and crap skincare regime

Although am overweight and think that acts as a natural filler.

I wouldn't assume they had Botox or fillers unless they had that "done" look.

I wouldn’t assume that no wrinkles at 55 = cosmetic intervention.

A lot of emphasis is placed on wrinkles as though it’s the only thing that shows a person’s age when of course there are other factors like loss of volume, facial sagging, hollowing under the eyes, etc.

Yes I agree, there is a lot more to ageing than wrinkles, wrinkles are less ageing than loss of volume and skin sagging which unfortunately no botox can fix.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/06/2022 19:15

No, I wouldn't think anything at all really. However if she had that unfortunate Botox face I would think "Bad Botox".

KittenKong · 22/06/2022 19:23

My dad looked in his 50s when he was 70. He almost gave a nurse at hospital a heart attack because she took some blood samples, then looked at his date of birth on his file as she was walking down the corridor. She told the doctor that she’d taken blood from the wrong person and ran back into the room. He has lucky genes.

Apparently I look early 40s (I’m 53) and I have really aged in the last few years, so I guess I had a lucky ride before.

YukoandHiro · 22/06/2022 19:24

Christ I'm only 40 and I've got forehead wrinkles

Bearsan · 22/06/2022 19:32

No I wouldn't. No wrinkles here mid 50's, my dsis is 60 this year and doesn't have any, lots of my friends don't have them either.
Mum is late 80's and has a few on her face but more on her arms.

BearBibble · 22/06/2022 19:35

People saying they can "always tell" if someone has had botox, how can you possibly know that, unless you quiz every person you ever see in order to confirm if you're right or not?
I have colleagues in their 20s who have (inexplicably) had it, but you'd never guess because you would expect people of that age to be smooth-faced anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

easyday · 22/06/2022 12:24

I'm 60 and I don't know anyone who has had Botox

I sm pretty sure you know lots of people who have had botox, they're just not advertising it! I personally know 4 people well who've definitely done so and a few more where I would guess that they have. I'm mid-40s.

IncompleteSenten · 22/06/2022 19:37

I'm 48 and am wrinkle free.

Sadly, this is because fat is nature's polyfiller.

If I lost weight I'd look like a shar pei.

🤣

Yodaisawally · 22/06/2022 14:34

I disagree. I have Botox, no one has noticed. It's minimal.

No-one has told you they've noticed.

I've got a good friend, who when I discussed Botox with told me she looked into but decided she didn't need it yet.

But I could see she'd already had it 🤣

I was too polite to tell her I noticed and just said well you've no wrinkles yet so you might not need it for a while.

She's probably like you. Telling strangers on the internet her friends haven't noticed.

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 22/06/2022 19:38

I would worry about how much you are worried about other people's faces.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 22/06/2022 19:43

I am in my early 60s and I don't have wrinkles. No Botox, and no real beauty regime and no makeup.
I've looked younger than I am all my life. It's just genetics.

MonChienEstUneLégende · 22/06/2022 19:58

Lots of claims of no wrinkles and looking younger but no photos. 😅

Ragwort · 22/06/2022 20:08

MonChien why would we lie? Confused. I don't want to put a photo of myself on the internet, I don't use FaceBook or anything like that. I didn't know or care if I look younger than 64 but I assure you I have no wrinkles.

TheOGCCL · 22/06/2022 20:24

On if you can tell if someone has had Botox, it's partly what does the rest of them look like as pp said - if they take an interest in grooming then why not that too - and partly how much has been done, whole smooth foreheads and a lack of crow's feet, when previously someone had lines, is a clear giveaway, or if you end up not being able to move your face naturally.

But the more people know other people are wondering about them/others, as it becomes very mainstream, the more clever (subtle) they get with it.

Number 11s can look worse if you look generally tired and over it so if you only see someone semi regularly you may not notice.

The problem with cosmetic injections is they can be addictive and it's so easy to go too far a la someone like Barry Manilow. Then you notice..

VerveClique · 22/06/2022 20:31

Shhh… I have Botox. In my 11s and forehead lines.

Those who know how to tell probably can, but overall it makes my face look more symmetrical and relaxed. Over time the wrinkles in those areas have faded.

Apart from that I’m fairly low maintenance… shave my legs, bit of fake tan, tint own lashes and brows, shellac own nails.

Should I be worried? I’m early 40s. I don’t advertise the Botox but if anyone asked I’d admit it.

I’m pretty happy about it!!

LizzieSiddal · 22/06/2022 20:35

I’m 56 and have zero wrinkles. I am however starting to get saggy jowls and neck, which I find quite a shock as I’ve gone through my whole life with people making comments about how young I look.

I get asked if I’ve had “work” done. A woman once told my DH that I was lying to everyone, including him 🤣as I must have had work done.

I used to hate people commenting on how young I looked (it’s awful in a work environment) but I now just enjoy it as it won’t happen for much longer!

bevelino · 22/06/2022 20:37

Wrinkles, botox or not most women look their age. If you are 40 or 50 it is unlikely you look 10 years younger no matter what people tell you.

VerveClique · 22/06/2022 20:40

I really haven’t done it to look younger… mainly just to look less knackered!!

Mrsjayy · 22/06/2022 20:40

CaliforniaDrumming · 22/06/2022 11:57

11's are the wrinkles some get on their foreheads, shaped like the number.

I don't have these I have some wrinkles around my eyes but not much else I don't have botox. Tbh I wouldn't think anything if someone my age had a smooth face. You can tell if someone has had botox it's a different "smooth"

GettingStuffed · 22/06/2022 21:07

I'm nearly 60 and have low grade lines on my forehead and no 11 s or crows feet. It's purely genetic as both my grandmothers looked younger than they were.

Alienbigcat45 · 22/06/2022 21:39

My dad is mid 70s and doesn't have wrinkles, he does have dark skin though and has never smoked. My mum hasn't been so lucky...and I doubt I will be either!

GoldenEclipse · 22/06/2022 21:41

52 no wrinkles unless you count the eye ones when I smile

i don’t sunbathe and have resting bitchface which greatly helps. 😉

Riverlee · 22/06/2022 21:58

No, I would assume they have good skin genes and/or been looking after themselves.
