Like @EllaPaella I take supplements of vitamin D and B6. I wasn't eating and was losing hair due to grief and trauma. The supplements I buy are sprays from Holland and Barrets. It may be coincidence, but my skin and hair started to look much better so I carried on using them.

jennywasvexed · 09/06/2022 02:11

@AllLopsided

The krill oil isn't a good vitamin to take in terms of negative environmental impact. I started a thread because my krill tablets had a strong fish smell. I ended up throwing the pack away, thanks to advice given, and will not be reordering.

grannyjacob · 09/06/2022 02:56

A multi vitamin and extra Vit D.

Theoldwoman · 09/06/2022 04:14

I'm surprised and interested how many vitamins some people take everyday!

I take a Zinc+ and a Calcium + Vitamin D

applecartsonthehill · 09/06/2022 08:01

I'd add in case it's helpful, but I suddenly got rosacea, I think I had it very mildly, but it worsened. Turns out it was the vitamin D supplement I'd been taking. My GP advised I try to stop taking that first, which I did, and the rosacea flare ups stopped within a couple of days.

I currently take a multivitamin but wondering if I should stop that also, as that contains vit D, and as someone who spends a lot of time outdoors I'm probably not in shortage of vit D.

Shangrila · 09/06/2022 08:14

Amending! My cod liver oil capsule is actually omega 3 (high strength).

I was taking magnesium (sleep related) but I've had trouble replacing the brand I used.

Lizziekisss · 09/06/2022 11:43

@ElEmEnOhPee Could I ask for a little more information if you don’t mind sharing. One of my young adult sons has been feeling unwell with terrible insomnia, brain fog and fatigue. He’s waiting for a Gp appointment. So he did one of the do it at home blood test kits which identified vitD and folate as deficiencies. So could I ask how was your folate deficiency identified, treated and the symptoms (as much as you don’t mind sharing)? Thanks

ElEmEnOhPee · 09/06/2022 19:04

@Lizziekisss I was extremely tired all the time, by 6pm in the evening I'd be in tears because I was desperate to sleep. I was dizzy a lot too, felt weak in general, my hair was thinning (not sure if that was a specific symptom or a coincidence), not sleeping properly (or never feeling I'd had enough sleep), couldn't focus/concentrate properly, struggling with my memory and I was feeling breathless.

I was frequently back and forth to the GP who kept checking thyroid and various other things but it was never picked up on until I had a seizure (not saying it caused the seizure because I don't know but that was when it was picked up). I'd gone to A&E following the seizure and they did bloods, said I was fine and sent me home. I happened to have a GP for appointment two days later for something unrelated and I mentioned the seizure and he said he'd take a quick look at my blood results - then he shook his said and said "they sent you home and said you were fine!!!", I nodded and he said that basically my blood cells were too large and so I wasn't getting enough oxygen around my body! He said that it was one of two causes, alcohol (which I didn't drink) or not enough Folate, I had further blood tests and it was indeed the folate. Took a long time for me to feel my full health again but I'd been going through this for years before it was detected.

Vicliz24 · 09/06/2022 19:11

Flaxseed oil . B complex . Vitamin D spray. Zinc 3 times a week too .

greenacrylicpaint · 09/06/2022 19:15

vit d3
magnesium
and iron twice a week

LadyEloise1 · 09/06/2022 19:16

@Sammysquiz
I compared ingredients of the Perfectil and the Tesco Hair Skin and Nails supplement. They are very very similar ingredients wise but not price wise.

saliwales2022 · 09/06/2022 19:24

I'm really old (76) but a private GP told me to take Vitamin D3, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12, indefinitely. So I take 1000mg of Vitamin D3, 1000mg of Vitamin B12 and 400mg of Folic Acid. Since Covid appeared it's ugly head, I also take Zinc and Magnesium.
