Ankle boots with this dress? Please help before I commit a style crime!

Bought this dress for a wedding
Will wear with a leather jacket on top and a nice All Saints belt. looks very cool on (according to DD who knows these things).

I need footwear. I cannot, cannot wear heels at all. Or open shoes due to ugly feet.
So thought about similar to the models (but i can't afford the All Saints ones!).

Would be grateful for advice before I go and spend £129.00 on a pair of Barbour tan coloured ankle boots from Pavers.

These are the boots

Hmmm maybe passable with boots but definitely not tan colours ones from Barbour. If you want to be fashionable (and it’s fine if you don’t; that’s a different thing altogether!) you’d need chunky black or white / cream dr marten type ones to pull it off. Asos have tons.

I think ankle boots might look a bit strange. What about pointed flats if you're not a fan of heels?

Lineala · 29/05/2022 15:13

No not for a wedding, same with the leather jacket, not for a wedding . . .

obsessedwithsleep · 29/05/2022 15:13

Absolutely not.

CatInAShoebox · 29/05/2022 15:13

Just seen the boots. You say you don't wear heels but what about a low block heel similar to the one on the boots?

Afterfire · 29/05/2022 15:14

If you don’t want your toes out even an open backed pointy mule would be better…

It's a very informal wedding. And I'm in the band (as is the groom and we're doing a short set before the hired band plays).

DD said about DM's of which I have a few pairs of different styles but not white or cream. I shall mosey over to Asos.

Thanks for the very speedy replies. I knew I was asking the right people!

I think if you commit to it and know you look cool with thr right boots it will be fine but arms out and toes in doesn't look right to me . I think white hi tops would be better than brown boots with that dress and a cool white blazer !

usernamenotaccepted · 29/05/2022 15:20

OK point taken about the Barbours.
I'm not a pointy flats kinda woman but thank you to the poster who suggested that for a no heel option.

AtillatheHun · 29/05/2022 15:21

Zara is also a good ankle boot option. The dress is lovely and boots will be great with it

usernamenotaccepted · 29/05/2022 15:24

Ooh, high tops!! That could work.
I've also got to find a way to stop the floppy front bit of the dress from exposing one of my tits as I move around. But that's a whole other issue. I've been into Boots but what they had doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for. I need to secure the fabric to my bra somewhow.

I'm not one for dressing up very often (at all really).

Absolutely not! Yuk. And 150 quid for something that looks like a nighty. Sorry but no no no

Arenanewbie · 29/05/2022 15:30

This ^ 100%
It might be cool but very different vibe to a wedding. I don’t wear heels, maybe wore them about 5 times in the last 15 years, and not even once in the last 3 years. I needed heels for a wedding a month ago, bought Gabor court shoes with medium heel (4.5cm) and managed the whole day in them straight away. There should be something other than boots that you could wear with this dress…

bellac11 · 29/05/2022 15:30

Ballet flat type things?

Arenanewbie · 29/05/2022 15:33

Just saw your update that it’s a very informal wedding. I’m still not sure about leather jacket but the boots you’ve posted would be no go from me.

usernamenotaccepted · 29/05/2022 15:36

@MissMaple82 I already bought the dress! And if I say so myself it looks much nicer in real life and I think it looks better on me than on the model!

I know what you mean though, I thought the same when I first saw it. I actually went in to try another of their summer dresses on (which I did) and when I first saw this one I thought noooo.... but when I put it on and added a belt I could see what DD meant.

If not a leather jacket I found a cream/pale beige coloured denim which was also hideously expensive but I'd get alot of wear out of and it was really stylish.

EllaPaella · 29/05/2022 15:47

As others have said the boots really don't match the dress. I think if you were going to wear boots then you need white leather rather than brown suede. For a jacket I would go for a longline summer blazer, preferably in a similar colour to the pattern on the dress.
It's a very summery dress and boots will look very out of place with it, if it's relaxed then I second high tops. White ones.

I wear hi tops with all my dresses because I hate the identikit white trainer and dress look now but I work in high street ladies fashion and have to wear them for work ..
I wear primark ones for work but converse lift out of work as they give me an inch !

gunnersgold · 29/05/2022 16:12

You don't have to spend much to look nice though to be honest ! I would def wear it with hi tops and a blazer ( prob a brighter one than white tbh but white is safe )
