I’m going to a wedding in August and am wondering if I can wear this dress. I already have it and I wear it to go out in the summer (into town, to pubs etc.).

For this reason, it feels like a regular ‘day-to-day’ dress to me, but I’m wondering if it could pass as a wedding outfit if I add heels and a fat sister?

The wedding is a ceremony and reception in a country house, so pretty formal. I don’t want to feel out of place, but equally I know I feel nice and will be comfortable if I wear this dress. The bride won’t have seen me in it before so she won’t know I haven’t bought it especially.

Thoughts?

I think that's lovely. I'd wear it with tan or nude heels and a similar coloured hat (fascinators not my thing) or a head band.

And bright lipstick.

I was wondering about the fat sister. Grin

Looks perfectly appropriate to me if with more formal shoes.

Littlemissprosecco · 26/05/2022 11:40

I think it’s perfect, as you say, dress it up a little

GrinAndVomit · 26/05/2022 11:42

I think it’s perfect. It can be dressed up or down, as you already do.
You could buy a smart blazer for it too.

The fat sister made me spit my tea!

easyday · 26/05/2022 11:42

I was thinking a fat sister would be a great accessory- mine are both much slimmer than me!
I guess with the right accessories it will pass muster even without a chubby companion!

Tickledtrout · 26/05/2022 11:42

Of course- it's lovely. What footwear/bag are you thinking of?
Fat sister would really lift it too though😂

Doidontimmm · 26/05/2022 11:44

I just spat my tea out at your typo….. I don’t know how your sister would feel 😂

where did you get the dress? I love it. Could totally be dressed up I think.

Doidontimmm · 26/05/2022 11:45

@GrinAndVomit snap haha

Lineala · 26/05/2022 11:46

H & M? I wouldn't but I'm a bit of a clothes snob when it comes to occasion dressing.

SheWoreYellow · 26/05/2022 11:50

I think that’s perfect with toning accessories.

You don’t need to go as far as a chubby relative I don’t think.

AdaColeman · 26/05/2022 11:52

Yes it will be perfect for a summer wedding, add some glam shoes and a clutch bag, and not forgetting your fat sister of course! Wink Wink

Where do you buy your clothes from?

Fat sister = fascinator 😳

😂

Dress is great, I would get a fascinator and add some bright lippie and a boutonnière - enjoy!

Triffid1 · 26/05/2022 12:05

Definitely fine. Good shoes and a nice bag and hat/fascinator and you're laughing. You could also get a smart jacket/cardigan of some sort to match.

It’s Debenhams but I got it on eBay :)

It’s called ‘stone palm print safari dress’

Sorry, looks like a day dress to me, not for a wedding too casual imhO.

SeanMean · 27/05/2022 18:55

Too casual- I would wear that as a day dress or to work.

SilkBlouse · 27/05/2022 19:05

You can definitely dress that up for a summer wedding. Heels, hair done, lipstick - sorted!

carefullycourageous · 27/05/2022 19:06

I think it looks really nice for a wedding.

Choopi · 27/05/2022 19:07

I'm going to go against the majority and say I think it looks too casual. It is a day dress, it would be fine for like a summer bbq but not for a wedding.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/05/2022 19:10

As a fat sister, I'd be pretty offended if you took me to a wedding just to make you look good.

The dress is fine imo. Nice fascinator, heels, accessories, maybe a wrap. As long as it doesn't look "worn" from too much washing

Twinstudy · 27/05/2022 19:10

I love it. Can easily be dressed up (with your fat sister :))

Ramsbottom · 27/05/2022 19:13

Yes totally it’s lovely, ignore those saying too casual, if you’d not said you wore it casually no one would have said it,

wear it with nude sandals. ditch the fascinator. never seen a nice one yet.

the fat sister had me bemused though, I sort of looked at it quizzically for a few seconds 😂
