I’m going to a wedding in August and am wondering if I can wear this dress. I already have it and I wear it to go out in the summer (into town, to pubs etc.).

For this reason, it feels like a regular ‘day-to-day’ dress to me, but I’m wondering if it could pass as a wedding outfit if I add heels and a fat sister?

The wedding is a ceremony and reception in a country house, so pretty formal. I don’t want to feel out of place, but equally I know I feel nice and will be comfortable if I wear this dress. The bride won’t have seen me in it before so she won’t know I haven’t bought it especially.

Thoughts?

I love the dress but you’d need to work hard on the accessories to make it appropriate to the occasion. I worry that you’d feel unsuitably dressed and awkward when you got there (not that the bride/groom would care, but it would affect your enjoyment of the occasion).

Fat sister is a super autocorrect !

Perfect dress for a wedding, best part is that you already have it and know it fits and feels comfortable.
Ebay is brilliant.

It always mystifies me, the rabid search for a wedding guest outfit here. Nobody cares what guests wear, well, unless it's grossly inappropriate, the day is about the bride ( and groom, who most likely wouldn't give a toss what anyone wore, ever).
It's great to have go-to dress for such occasions, shopping for new one every time is utterly ludicrous.

Love the dress and think it would be great.

I can't stop laughing at far sister though 🙈😂

Loopytiles · 28/05/2022 09:30

😁fat sister FAR better accessory than fascinator!

dudsville · 28/05/2022 09:32

It's a day dress, sure, but I would happily wear that depending on the dress code. It's lovely. I'm envious, that's just my cup of tea but I've not been able to find one!

faithinnature1 · 28/05/2022 09:36

Fat sister, brilliant auto error!
The dress is definitely ok for a wedding if you add accessories and sandals etc, it's lovely in fact. I don't see how it could not be ok!

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 28/05/2022 09:39

I knew fat sister must have been a typo but I couldn't work out what it was meant to be!

KatieKline · 23/03/2023 07:36

I really like the dress, but its too informal and day dress / summer work dress for a formal country house wedding.

I know what you mean (although I am guilty of hunting for perfect wedding guest dresses myself because I care how I look even if no one else does). Having said that, there's a local boutique that caters for mother of the bride looks and I recently bought a dress there for a nephew's wedding. It was a bit of a trial as the (very helpful) assistant was offering very structured formal wear and I ended up exclaiming "I'm only an aunt!!".

Incidentally, I'm the fat sister but I generally look better than my lovely slimmer sister so she'd be wasting her time using me as an accessory 😂

GettingStuffed · 23/03/2023 09:52

I also think it's a bit too casual but I suggest that you wear it into a town or shopping centre and try on accessories to see if you can dress it up enough.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/03/2023 09:55

This is from last year! Wonder if OP wore the dress.

Why did you resurrect this thread from nearly a year ago? I'm always intrigued as to how people come across an old random thread like this ...

I wonder myself but the typo made me cackle and I'm not easily amused, so am greatful.

It came up in "similar threads" today. I'd posted before I saw the dates.

Similar threads are actually a bit of an issue with thus. I wonder idmthey can put a block on after 1 year or so.
