Has anyone else seen the photos from last night? Wow!! Some of the dresses this year were just incredible! The craftsmanship that went into some of the dresses is mind boggling. My favourite had to be Blake Lively's dress that morphed into a completely different look. I thought both were stunning. There were so many other gorgeous gowns as well. I wasn't blown away by Kim K in Marilyn Monroe's $4.5m dress, but I give her points for even being allowed to wear it and get into it! Apparently she lost 16lbs in 3 weeks just to fit into it - (just! - I think it was a tad tight). The one I'm struggling with that everyone else seems to love is Billie Eilish's dress. Have I completely missed something here? I really think she looks dreadful in it. But then again I don't like her style in general and always think she looks bored as hell and half dead. Have I just missed seeing something with this look?

What a very depressingly pessimistic view....as terrible things happen around the world...life continues on. People continue to celebrate things, party, look good, look ridiculous, etc etc

Do you think the whole thing should be called off? On what grounds exactly? That women shouldn't be dieting or tottering about in high heels 😂

the gown is owned by a museum that caters to the strange and unusual, so not exactly something like V&A .

The dress was designed to match Marilyn’s skin tone, giving the impression of her being naked but covered in jewels. It’s the wrong shade for KK and just looked ordinary on her. No serious museum would have lent it for a stunt like this.

Lots of attendees seem to have got the era wrong and came in 1920s flapper-inspired outfits.

I loved Carey Mulligan’s Schiaparelli dress. Lots of the men looked great and on theme.

@FIZZYTEDDY , it's not that I don't think people should celebrate things, more that such an overt spectacle to display obscene levels of wealth ( on completely unwearable, ridiculous outfits), doesn't have good optics right now. Or ever tbh. It's very 'let them eat cake'. The capital in Hinger Games wasn't a blueprint for how things should be!
And no, I don't think it's good to boast about dropping that level of weight in 3 weeks, as if it's a good thing. It's irresponsible because so many young women and girls follow what KK does.

I know I'm sounding like a total misery guts, but this has made me feel a bit sick, in a way that the Oscars etc doesn't.

Loved both of Blake Lively's looks, absolutely beautiful, thought Billie Eilish looked like a psychopathic debutante of the GA, so that worked really. Wonderful story behind SJP's dress.

Kim K. No. It looked like a cheap stunt, her body shape is completely different to MM and the fact she is also several inches shorter and had to compensate with those daft shoes didn't help. The version which actually fitted her was much, much better. I also have no idea what it had to do with the theme, but she was hardly alone in that, given the amount of black leather on show on Monday.

Funny how blah Marilyn's dress looked on Kim K. When MM wore it you could see her body moving underneath, I think that's what made her look so sexy in it. But of course Kim K would be horrified at the thought of any rogue jiggling underneath the dress so had some kind of full length shape wear situation going on. And the end result was bland and boring.

Completely agree. She took an incredible sexy dress and sanitised it. Completely wrong colour, cut and styling for her and KK is a beautiful woman herself.

I adored Blake lively's dress, that was stunning. The construction of that must've been incredibly skilled.

I saw a photograph of the very long line of attendees waiting to get their photos taken in front of the press. I wonder if the guests actually enjoy it? The amount of guests seems huge, actors, pop stars, models and SADOS. The room where they dine must be massive. Do they all get pissed off waiting for their food, drink too much, get over emotional and end up fighting I wonder...

Elon was with his mother- Maye Musk. A poster mistook her for Glenn Close.

Maye Musk has been famous, in the fashion industry, a lot longer than Elon.

Interesting points about historical costume being used as fancy dress. When I was young, there was much more "old" stuff about and it was possible to pick up some lovely 30s things, Edwardian undies, etc at jumble sales. It sort of revitalised them, being loved again. However, none of these things were linked to a specific occasion in the way the MM dress is. TBH, I watched the red carpet coverage amazed she didn't put a heel through the hem on the stairs. While it is essentially only-a-dress of course, it deserves more care.

KK can look tremendous and I'm disappointed did this. However, it has got a lot of attention, which I'm sure was the point of it all.

Blake Lively looked amazing! She's a beautiful woman but the dress and then the unveiling of the second dress was pure art. Her husband also looked very dapper!
