Tall women, help! Should I just not use swimming pools?

Mybobowler · 30/04/2022 18:40

I'm 5'10". Tall, yes, but not remarkably so. All I want is to take my daughter swimming on a Sunday morning but can I find an affordable, long length swimsuit? Can I heck. I last bought one in a Boden sale, but I can't afford to shop there anymore.

I'd buy a tankini but all the shops my budget usually forces me to (supermarkets, Primark, Matalan etc) have stopped doing them. Asos Tall swimsuits are all for lounging on a beach, not dodging plasters and snot in the local leisure centre.

I've realised I'm probably going to have to spend about fifty quid (an eye-watering amount to for me) and I want to get this right. So can anyone recommend me a swimsuit (either a long-length one-piece or a tankini) that is:

Simple (ideally a dark, single colour)
Good quality
Reasonably priced

For background I'm in my early thirties, slim and not blessed with boobs. I'm also five months postpartum and feeling really horrible about my body, so I want something that'll cover everything.

Any help?!

Same 5'10 and usually go a size up to give some more space
I used to lurk in British home stores for their tall swimsuits not found cheap alternatives since

RiaOverTheRainbow · 30/04/2022 18:45

Have you looked at rash vests? They tend to be a bit longer than tankini tops and you could pair one with any cheap bikini bottoms.

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 30/04/2022 18:46

Matalan do a couple of tankinis a tummy control wrap one if pp tummy is making you feel less than confident

Peacocks have them
As do Amazon
Next have them but double the price of everywhere else.

MamaOfWobbles · 30/04/2022 18:46

I'm 5'11 and bought this. It's perfect for me

I'm only 5 foot 7 but I've always struggled with this. No matter how much I size up, they just get wider but are never anywhere near long enough.

Have you looked on ebay? I've had some success with second hand costumes.

MeOnSea · 30/04/2022 18:49

Not massively cheap but I bought a long body one from M&S. still had to size up as well but better than others I’ve had in the past. I’ve also had a Zoggs longer length one from Amazon which wasn’t expensive

stodgystollen · 30/04/2022 18:50

How about this tankini? It will skim nicely and is cheap

TeenPlusCat · 30/04/2022 18:50

Have you looked at 'proper' swimming costumes like Zoggs?

Paragon86 · 30/04/2022 18:51

There’s been a few threads on this issue. The common consensus is: Lands End, often have 40%off offers, excellent quality, excellent customer service.

Icantfindanewname · 30/04/2022 18:52

I am similarly tall. M&S tall, and lands end do some nice tall ones and are often on offer.

newbiename · 30/04/2022 18:52

Long Tall Sally have some and Next do Tall swimming costumes.

Tall women, help! Should I just not use swimming pools?
resipsa · 30/04/2022 18:55

Try kid's age 16 ones from M&S or Next. Too long for me at 171cms! Seriously!

MintyGreenDream · 30/04/2022 18:59

I bought a navy "tall" one from next online a couple of years ago.Im 5ft10 fits great.

southchinasea · 30/04/2022 18:59

Mine's a long one from Land's end. Plain black, low cut legs. I'm 5'9 and it's nice and comfortable and a good fit.

MintyGreenDream · 30/04/2022 19:00

Just checked there are 32 tall swimsuits on next online

Sunnyshoeshine · 30/04/2022 19:06

Next, Long Tall Sally or Lands End (although the latter not dissimilarly priced to Boden so might be out of budget?)

Mybobowler · 30/04/2022 19:10

Thanks everyone! So begins an evening of online shopping.

Re Next - I really like their styles but all sizes in tall seem to be out of stock? Or maybe I've just been unlucky!

M&S appear to have stopped doing longer length, annoyingly. I'm very intrigued about the kids ones though... possibly worth the risk that I'd have to return it?!

I peeked at Lands End but that was back when I was in denial about the cost that and thought I could get something for under twenty quid. I'll go back and look!

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/04/2022 19:12

Do Long Tall Sally do them? I managed to get my 5’10” sister a proper full length dressing gown there

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/04/2022 19:14

ldontWanna · 30/04/2022 19:21

Under £20, if that's the main requirement.

There will be other suggestions that are similar , you might find something you like.

I have something similar for swimming with DD. It's fine. Nothing to write home about.

Or maybe look at Amazon's try before you buy.

ChimChimeny · 30/04/2022 19:25

I got one from M&S which has adjustable straps, I'm not tall but I have a long body (could never wear bodies back in the 90's 😁) so you might have more luck with adjustable straps than a specifically longer one

Aichek · 30/04/2022 19:26

Lands End nearly always have a code so you can get it a lot cheaper. I don't actually find M&S that long in the body. I do have a decathlon lap suit I went up 2 sizes in as well. Slazenger also seem a bit longer.

It's SO annoying. I swim a lot and have more of a problem with lap suits than beach cossies.

friskybivalves · 30/04/2022 19:30

Yes - Lands end have up to 80% off today. They have a long torso black or navy swimsuit that you can get for £33.95 delivered?

user1471464218 · 30/04/2022 19:33

I use a bikini for the leisure centre- decathlon bottoms and a Matalan zip front sports bra as a top, but anything with enough fabric would do me. Obviously my tummy is out.
