Tall women, help! Should I just not use swimming pools?

Mybobowler · 30/04/2022 18:40

I'm 5'10". Tall, yes, but not remarkably so. All I want is to take my daughter swimming on a Sunday morning but can I find an affordable, long length swimsuit? Can I heck. I last bought one in a Boden sale, but I can't afford to shop there anymore.

I'd buy a tankini but all the shops my budget usually forces me to (supermarkets, Primark, Matalan etc) have stopped doing them. Asos Tall swimsuits are all for lounging on a beach, not dodging plasters and snot in the local leisure centre.

I've realised I'm probably going to have to spend about fifty quid (an eye-watering amount to for me) and I want to get this right. So can anyone recommend me a swimsuit (either a long-length one-piece or a tankini) that is:

Simple (ideally a dark, single colour)
Good quality
Reasonably priced

For background I'm in my early thirties, slim and not blessed with boobs. I'm also five months postpartum and feeling really horrible about my body, so I want something that'll cover everything.

Any help?!

Yes - Lands end have up to 80% off today. They have a long torso black or navy swimsuit that you can get for £33.95 delivered?

LowbrowVictoriana · 30/04/2022 19:37

Same problem here
I've bought tankinis from eBay (not necessarily 2nd hand) and Amazon. Both have plenty.

Been a while since I've seen a "longer length" one piece, though ☹️

cowsaysmoo · 30/04/2022 19:39

Try vinted!

Tickledtrout · 30/04/2022 19:42

ASOS tall range has loads of swimming costumes

Alwayspaintyournails · 30/04/2022 19:48

Long tall Sally are £35 but wash well according to DF and not much more expensive than Next.

110APiccadilly · 30/04/2022 19:51

I'm not that tall but I have a long torso. I have a Speedo tankini from Wiggle (iirc) which cost about £30. Would that be within your budget?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/04/2022 19:54

Sign up to Lands’ End and they will send out a discount code at least every 3 or 4 weeks, usually for 45% off, sometimes more.

Springspringhurrah · 30/04/2022 19:55

Lands end

Mybobowler · 30/04/2022 19:57

Thanks again everyone! I've narrowed it down to Lands End or Long Tall Sally.

The LE swimsuit you linked me to @friskybivalves is exactly what I was after, thank you! The reviews are a bit iffy though, but it might still be worth a go.

Whenever I've bought things from LTS in the past, they've come up bit too long. But they otherwise look exactly right.

I did look at proper sports brands. Zoggs say they do long torso versions, but I haven't actually seen one yet!

I'm 5' 10" and I have two just plain Speedo swimsuits - one black and one navy. They still look like new after years of use. Never had an issue with them not being long enough. Maybe they're just better being from a specialist swimsuit maker like Speedo?

Perly · 30/04/2022 20:08

I'm 5'11" with a long torso so I know the feeling. I've had a couple of really nice suits from here... I swim a couple of times a week and have found these to be great quality and nice and long in the body.

Can second Halocline... from another one like a vertical dachshund.

Velvian · 30/04/2022 20:17

Vinted is where you need to look, op. I searched tall swimsuit.

I have the same problem and I've just bought myself a Speedo tankini from Vinted.

JWhipple · 30/04/2022 20:43

I've had a few Speedo sculpture ones off eBay cheap. And zoggs are always good, worth going up a size. And Google them, there can be huge differences in price. I've even had a couple second hand off Vinted very cheap if you don't mind that! (Often turns out they've never been worn and still have tags on)

Frazzled2207 · 30/04/2022 20:46

same height. In the past I have bought halterneck ones that I tied myself and work out ok thanks to small boobs

Supersnot123 · 30/04/2022 20:47

I've just bought this one from amazon and was really impressed with the quality.
The straps are adjustable so it should fit!

Try H&M, I got a sports one and a beach one in there (I went up one size). Monki ones also come up long and they have some styles which have good coverage.

HippeePrincess · 30/04/2022 20:50

I always get a super high waist bikini, covers the worse of my mum tum

Vallmo47 · 30/04/2022 20:51

I’m 5’9” and found a lovely, very flattering tanking in Sports Direct. I find them very reasonably priced and whilst it’s a sports shop, it’s still oddly flattering. I go swimming 5 times a week and no issues- the one I bought is black with a blue stripe and £10.99. If there’s a sports direct near you I’d certainly try it as they have good reductions. GL.

Vallmo47 · 30/04/2022 20:52

Tankini sorry for typo :)

itsgettingweird · 30/04/2022 20:54

RiaOverTheRainbow · 30/04/2022 18:45

Have you looked at rash vests? They tend to be a bit longer than tankini tops and you could pair one with any cheap bikini bottoms.

Agree.

I've got a man's rash vest from sport direct and I wear it with bikini shorts.

Belshels · 30/04/2022 21:00

6ft ex GB swimmer here (a long time ago) but could always wear Zoggs, Adidas, Speedo, and most brands of competitive/ training costumes ... Usually a 38 these days, used to be a 32 and still fitted me length ways.

I'm 5'11 and find Next good for swim suits.

Rainbowshit · 01/05/2022 11:09

Also have this issue (plus large boobs🙈) and always have a nightmare.

My current swimsuit is Speedo.
