Charity shop bargain; I’m surrounded by family & friends who don’t appreciate 😆

I think these are an absolute find. Barely worn and £20! Always wanted a pair of ‘nice’ flats but never thought they’d be designer. What do you think?

Any other charity shop bargain stories to share?

Excellent find!

My best charity shop bargain is a (genuine) vintage Hermès scarf I paid €2 for.

girlmom21 · 29/04/2022 18:20

Wow that's a fantastic find!
Our local charity shops (and we have a LOT!) are rubbish. They overcharge for absolute tat and have nothing nice.

If anyone on here is at all outdoorsy, you might know of Buffalo who make lightweight, windproof, insulated jackets and salopettes. In 1989, I got a new Buffalo smock jacket from the Imperial Cancer Research shop in Clapham Junction. It was £3. I have worn it probably on average once a week since - pence per wear about 0.18p per wear!

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads since you mention outdoor gear, I'm going to brag about my Arc'teryx fleece. Found recently for £10 and usually so far out of my price range. I love it so much, only problem is it makes the rest of my things feel like absolute rubbish!

100% cashmere jumper for £2.

Florrey · 29/04/2022 18:30

Lucky! My local charity shops are full of rubbish. I have to travel to areas where the shops get a better class of donations. Although that’s no guarantee nowadays, the shop assistants often filter out anything with a label and either EBay it or stick a super high price on it.

Kanaloa · 29/04/2022 18:31

Winner winner! I realised a few weeks ago that my son was spending too much time in charity shops with me because he approached me with a book and said ‘mum only 50p!! It’s £8 in Waterstones, I’ll save 7.50!!!’ I’ve also found really nice stuff like coats and rain suits when the kids were small, usually in good condition because they don’t get worn much before they’re outgrown.

Generally it’s just books and kids stuff I get really good bargains on though, never stuff for me! Maybe I’m not looking enough.

I got a black, double-breasted, calf length Windsmoor coat for £30.i. a charity shop in Shrewsbury. Actually my sister found it for me. She's a big charity shop shopper. I got the coat 10 years ago. I keep it for best and it still looks as good as new. 😍

OutofDepth1000 · 29/04/2022 18:50

I’ve found the posher areas are the ones hat charge much higher prices. The one where I got the shoes is between a poshish and not so posh ares 😆

My best buy was a heavily beaded, black Monsoon dress for £10.
I've worn it a couple of times and felt fabulous in it. I open the wardrobe now and then just to admire it Smile

londonmummy1966 · 29/04/2022 18:52

My local charity shop has 6 pairs of Miu Miu and Prada shoes in my size at the moment - £149 each😢and a cashmere jumper from Joseph for £75 which is probably not in my size.

Trevonebabe · 29/04/2022 18:57

I got a brand new Longchamp bag for £4 last week.

Abzs · 29/04/2022 19:14

My best bargains are also outdoorsy. A nice soft shell Altura bike jacket, and a Howie's merino t-shirt, both for me. I also found a pair of Gill sailing salopettes for DS1. All £3 each I think.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2022 19:15

Those shoes are amazing, op.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 29/04/2022 19:21

I used to go to one in Battersea that was FULL of designer stuff for pennies. French sole pumps for £1, lovely Maxmara dress £3. I’m sat here now in a beautiful leather belt I bough eight years ago there for 50p. Sadly I moved and now it’s too far.

theleafandnotthetree · 29/04/2022 19:21

I got a very smart well made navy casual jacket for 8 euro in Oxfam, a brand called Sailors and Brides. Equivelent new would be something like 300 euro. In the same shop a camel coloured wool Clements Ribero coat which would be well up into the 800 euro plus territory I think for 30 euro. It's the best feeling!

But surely worth travelling for bargains of that magnitude!

Fab find OP!

Mabelface · 29/04/2022 19:24

Superdry windcheater jacket for a tenner is my best one lately. All my clothes bar underwear come from charity shops. So do my home furnishings.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2022 19:26

My wedding dress - a local and very very fancy wedding dress store gave unused and unsold stock to a charity shop. It was £100 and had been several times that in the shop. Fitted like a glove. Was exactly what I wanted. They sold out in a few hours.

AdoraBell · 29/04/2022 19:26

Fab find 👍 as your friends and family don’t appreciate them they won’t borrow them 👍.

bellinisurge · 29/04/2022 19:27

Several times? Several months

quirkychick · 29/04/2022 19:38

Quite a few, most recently a pair of black, Joseph trousers that were originally £15 and the sales assistant thought were too much and reduced to £10.
Other favourites a £4 Dolce & Gabbana denim skirt that I bought 13yrs ago and have worn loads, £7 J Brand flared jeans that were in a very posh charity shop, so no idea why they were so cheap!

Littleelffriend · 29/04/2022 19:54

I ordered a dress online for a wedding. Was too small and I didn’t lose the weight. Got a joe brown dress with tags still on for 9 quid it was much nicer

muddyford · 29/04/2022 19:57

Cornflower blue Chanel (I think - ages ago, but was top designer) jersey. 50p from Oxfam in Harpenden.
