I think these are an absolute find. Barely worn and £20! Always wanted a pair of ‘nice’ flats but never thought they’d be designer. What do you think?

Any other charity shop bargain stories to share?

@InstantUserNameJustAddWater - you could look at the shop in CLapham Old Town - not that cheap but not bad designer stuff for not unreasonable prices - £30 for something that would have been £500+new

@londonmummy1966 Thanks- I will check that one out as well!

@InstantUserNameJustAddWater

Its the one round by where the buses stop not the Shelter shop (which has the lovely £149 Prada shoes........)

These YSL tribute 75 shoes for the equivalent of £4 in a flea market the day after my sister said she'd love them as wedding shoes. Karma and a very nice big sister.

On holiday in southampton a few years ago i had a quick mooch in a charity shop and found such a gem! A long fully lined camel wool coat 75% cashmere 25% wool for £10. Its timeless design means I have brought it out every single winter since 😊 Absolutely beautiful coat.

DiscontentedWoman · 01/05/2022 08:45

I've had a good run on cashmere jumpers recently, all around £3. And I bought a pile of new thermal vests over Easter in a hospice charity clearance shop. Beautiful crystal wine glasses are my downfall in charity shops. I do really need to stop with those.

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows not sure but it's annoying !! (Great username by the way) Wink

Just been in my local Red Cross shop. Lots of new Zara stuff , none my size though unfortunately.

Yes! We don't have a Red Cross locally but were in one when on holiday recently. Teenage DD was absolutely delighted and bought a few things - some wide leg jeans which would have been about £40 in the shop cost her £9.95. The lady behind hte counter said they'd had a corporate donation from Zara - all the stuff they couldn't sell when they were closed during the pandemic restrictions (which were longer in Scotland).

We get a lot of BNWT stuff in our shop. We always leave the original tags on so people can see that it's new.

Ah @KnitPurlKnitPurl that explains the sudden influx of Zara stuff in my local Red Cross shop!

Bargains I’ve had:
Jaeger dress on the £1 rail and Dubarry boots - good sturdy wintery ones for £8 - gave the boots to my mum who was thrilled. Both from a Salvation Army warehouse shop. (Blackpool near M55 motorway - recommend a trip there if you’re ever nearby).

Got a Pinko dress once for under a tenner which I wore to death - loved that one. Local hospice shop where I used to live. When DD was a baby I used to love their 3 for a £1 baby clothes ”bin” and got so much stuff from there.

Secondhand shopping seems to be quite popular with the kids at the minute which is great.

OutofDepth1000 · 01/05/2022 10:27

I think it’s great that shopping in charity shops/second hand has been normalised. I remember as a kid being mortified if a school mate saw me with parent in a charity shop. It’s so good the stigma has been removed, great for the environment and community!

I was brought up with charity shops, jumble sales and car boot sales. Love them !!!

CoconutAmericano · 01/05/2022 10:47

Lol my mam used to peruse the local charity shops, (30 years later she still does) and i used to wait outside as a moody teenager mortified in case a friend saw me! Oh how times have changed and thank goodness!

KnitPurlKnitPurl · 01/05/2022 11:59

Some people still think like that though @OutofDepth1000 , my sister in law won't even drop stuff off at a charity shop in case someone sees her going in.

Fashiontatts · 01/05/2022 12:11

Same @CoconutAmericano 🤣

OutofDepth1000 · 01/05/2022 15:11

That’s such a shame that some people are still like that 🥺

Was in town today and thought I'd have a nosey but never really find anything (apart from a jumpsuit I wish I'd bought a few weeks ago!)

Came across this Phase Eight jumpsuit for £12 in my size! Very pleased with it.

NeedWineNow · 02/05/2022 13:57

I love a charity shop and will have a browse wherever I find one.

I went to some in a nice area not far from me at the weekend. Picked up some bargains including an unworn Ilse Jacobsen maxi dress for £20 - they retail around the £150 mark in our local shop that stocks the brand.

Time40 · 02/05/2022 14:22

What a lovely and cheering thread! It's great to read about other people's wonderful discoveries. The shoes are a great find, OP.

My last good one was a month ago - a new, unworn cashmere cardigan for £5.50. It's a beautiful, unusual style, too, and it really suits me.

Cookie79 · 02/05/2022 19:29

Can I bend the rules slightly and add secondhand off eBay so not charity shop? Took delivery of this the other day (hoping picture attached). Used to walk past this shop for years when I worked in Manchester and loved the bags. Paid £22 plus postage. It’s battered but beautiful.
