If you don’t wash you hair every two days

I keep seeing instagram models with gorgeous hair saying they only wash it once a week. How?? I’m the same age, sadly 30s. Mine gets so greasy so quickly. How do people do it?

Is it dry shampoo? But isn’t that also bad for it?

Early not sadly

Mine doesn't get greasy, it just gets itchy after about a week and then I know it needs a wash 😳 I don't use dry shampoo

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/04/2022 18:47

Depends on your hair type. Very fine, straight hair will get greasier faster; thicker, more textured hair can usually go longer between washes.

Lua · 18/04/2022 18:48

People have different kinds of hair and scalp.... I wash my hair once or twice a week and it does not get oily. I don't do anything. However, I have fairly dry hair these days, so perhaps that is why is fine?

Butfirstcoffees · 18/04/2022 18:48

I just started stretching it out at the beginning of lockdown. So went an extra day. Then another and so on.

I don't use dry shampoo as makes my scall feel awful.

TulipsGarden · 18/04/2022 18:48

You just have to have hair that naturally doesn't get oily. It's usually people with thick, curly hair. Fine, thin hair often gets oily quickly.

Regularsizedrudy · 18/04/2022 18:49

I wash my hair once a week. Don’t use anything in between washes. It’s purely down to hair type. My hair is very think and tends to be dry so it would takes ages for it to get greasy. If it doesn’t work for you don’t do it 🤷‍♀️

Regularsizedrudy · 18/04/2022 18:49

Thick*

NellesVilla · 18/04/2022 18:51

If someone could help train my hair, I’d be so grateful! Whatever I do (and I’ve tried everything to train it), it gets gross and oily at the roots, after just under 2 days. I refuse to wash it before 3 days, but by then it is vile- the dry shampoo starts clumping in gross, sticky little balls and the back of my hair feels all waxy.

BiscuitLover3678 · 18/04/2022 18:51

My hair is quite straight and probably quite fine. It’s always oily at the front and I don’t know how to disguise it. If I could learn a tip to make it look less horrendous at the top then the rest of it looks fine!

I started to stretch mine out to 4 days between washes, and my scalp just didn’t like it - it was greasy at the roots and dry at the ends I was worried it smelled and then I got dandruff for the first time in 30 years. It was wasn’t worth the feeling so I’m back to washing every other day.

muppamup · 18/04/2022 18:52

you need to train your hair to need washing less. Work up, one day at a time, adding an extra day between washes every couple of weeks. Use dry shampoo in between to freshen up if you can't bear it. Change shampoo frequently (cycle through several different ones so you never use the same one twice in a row). Helps the hair to adapt! I have fine, greasy hair and it does get oily quickly if I wash too often but the dry shampoo helps to stretch it out between washes and I find I can train it to be a bit better and last longer if I stretch out.

NellesVilla · 18/04/2022 18:52

Oh, and just imagine having oily, greasy roots with dry, tangled, fragile hair that is a nightmare to get a brush through. May need to cut it!

Sounds like mine :(

My hair is thick and wavy/curly. I can go about 6 days with ease, and could probably stretch it out for 8 or 9.

I don't use shampoo though, and think that helps.

Steelesauce · 18/04/2022 18:53

I'm on day 8 and debating getting away with it for a few more days as I cba to wash it tonight. I have very long, thick hair. Naturally curly. I've never seen it look greasy before and I've left it 2 weeks in the past. Its just my hair type.

lilkiki · 18/04/2022 18:53

I did hair training and wash it twice
I spent months having disgusting greasy hair (one day with clean hair then 6 days with yuk hair)
Soon enough it balanced itself out

I bought one of those donut rings so I could put in in a bun for about 5 days

Unfortunately I had to wash it twice in a week a month or so ago and now it’s back to being greasy by the 3rd day again

ARGGGGH

Penguinevere · 18/04/2022 18:55

It depends on your hair type

I wash my hair once a week but my hair is thick and it doesn’t get oily quickly. I put it in an updo in the morning and I do not touch it all day. If I touched my hair a lot or had it down it’d get greasy much faster.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 18/04/2022 18:55

Depends on your hair, what kind of shampoo, how often you wash etc.

I wash about once every 5 days. I use the sulphate/paraben/whatever free shampoos. It lasts no problem, i usually wash because it’s “time” rather than greasy or whatever.

Try every 3 days to start, and get some decent shampoo.

Interestingly, when I got my (long haired) dog I washed him in normal cheap bog standard shampoo to start. After the first time I found myself washing him nearly every day, as he was getting quite greasy and stinky very quickly.

Bought dog shampoo and immediately noticed the difference, only needs washing every few weeks when he’s rolled in something.

Makes you wonder..

Mytoddlerisamazing · 18/04/2022 18:57

I have fine, straight hair and need to wash it every day really.

Since having a kid I was it far less often than that Blush but it hasn't changed, it just regularly looks a bit shit.

Itswindy · 18/04/2022 19:00

I also stretched it out during lockdown. I used to have to wash it every second day or it would look greasy, but in lockdown I went 3 days, then 4, then 5... I now only need to wash it once a week, it doesn't get greasy at all. And I have fine long hair.

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/04/2022 19:01

Mine is fine and randomly wavey. I'm trying to move to every 2 days at the moment and thinking of giving up. My only option by lunchtime on day 2 is to put it in a ponytail and I don't like that.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 18/04/2022 19:03

One of the best things you can do is clean your hairbrush regularly, the build up on the brush actually contributes to how quickly it get dirty and greasy. Also, the best dry shampoo is living proof 'perfect hair day' it's totally worth the price tag. Hair is clean and refreshed compared to batiste which always feels grim and never 'clean'

I once looked up why your hair gets 'sore' when left unwashed and it's because your hair weighs more with the oil and guff in it and pulls at your hair follicle. Makes me gag every time I think about it. I still only wash it twice a week but when it starts to hurt 🤢

Human shampoo is no good for dogs, it takes too much of the natural oils out.
I seem to be the anomaly as I have straight fine hair and I can go a week without washing it. But when I was younger, I had to wash it every day otherwise it was a grease slick. Dd has thick wavy hair and it’s pretty greasy after day two.
