Pink wedding dress?

sammielouise · 17/04/2022 16:24

Thanks in advance!
I'm getting married in Feb next year. I'm not keen on the traditional wedding gown, but similarly, having just had my second baby, I don't think (sadly) a more traditional slim fitting dress would suit either. I love the idea of a blush or pink dress. I've found this one online; the designer has offered to custom make it with a train and without the sleeves (or with different sleeves). But it's a risk ordering online without seeing it. What does everyone think?
I'm debating between traditional - as hopefully only a bride once.. or pink and fun. If pink, sleeveless or Bardot? Ruffle to bottom or plain? (With train). Help!

How much of a budget are you on?

Joyfulflowers · 17/04/2022 17:59

Definitely lose the ruffle, love the sleeves though.

You really need to see a fabric swatch first to get a feel of the fabric (too flimsy etc) and colour but go for the pink if it's what you love.

olympicsrock · 17/04/2022 18:00

Mine was blush pink - loved it! Go for it!

sammielouise · 17/04/2022 18:03

@Palavah

Make sure you see a fabric swatch, check out other work from the same maker, see what the real brides looked like.
Thanks! See I think it might be too much of a risk, it's just a small shop on instagram so risky.

As low as possible really. Could stretch to £600ish!

I love pink wedding gowns! Personally think that dress you posted isn't that nice though. The pink is a bit too sugary and the fabric looks cheap. You should get a sample before you commit to it. Have you made sure the person your speaking with is the actual designer of the dress and it's their own images? Do a lot of research on the designer you use. There's a lot of stolen images on places like Etsy/Insta where 'designers' use other people pictures to sell a dress that is subpar quality.

Alightjacket · 17/04/2022 18:07

Fanciful Doll Boutique is the original designer/maker of that dress, just incase you've seen it from another Insta page. They're on Etsy.

Yeah that's who I've been speaking to, they've been amazing and are open to custom making it however I like Smile Thanks everyone, definitely good tips to think about!

I remember going to a wedding in the early 80s where the bride had a blush pink dress - everything else was very traditional for the time (around the time of Charles and Di's wedding) so there was quite a gasp as she walked down the aisle as It was totally unexpected for that era.

loverofpants · 17/04/2022 18:39

I had a blush pink wedding dress and I loved it. It was huge and sparkly and meringue like. If you want it, do it.

sammielouise · 17/04/2022 18:51

Oh I've just seen this too, it looks so nice, and really cheap. But again not overly bridal? Don't know why I'm stressing yet, wedding isn't until February 😂

I love it! Very up my street. I'd keep the sleeves and forget the train tbh - I'd wear it as it is.

But if you have your heart set on a train ans sleeveless, I reckon you could get that for under £600 fairly easily.

Thiswayorthatway · 17/04/2022 19:32

Love the first pink one OP over all the other suggestions Smile

ScarlettSing · 17/04/2022 19:37

I love the pink one, with the sleeves, would see what she could do with the bottom.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 17/04/2022 19:38

Just an aside OP have you actually tried any wedding dress styles on? I know lots of people who think they want one style/fall in love with something they’ve seen in pictures and then completely changed their mind when they actually try them on.

I love coloured wedding dresses (although my own was ivory) but personally I’m not keen on the shade of pink and prefer the green.

SillySallySassySausage · 17/04/2022 19:45

I've just had a look on their Etsy page and I love the other pink sparkly one with the stars. I think if the ruffly bottom was took off, maybe with a straight full length skirt, or even just left tea length without the ruffle, that could be really something special. I think that's quite close to what I might choose if I was getting married now (as opposed to 17yrs ago!)

Alightjacket · 17/04/2022 19:47

Yes the pink one is much nicer than the green. Much more substantial with the amount of fabric used in the skirt. I love the star one they do as well!

StrictlySinging · 17/04/2022 19:47

I got married in dusky pink - best decision because it was totally me - in fact it was in the shop window when I went for my already chosen white dress fitting and then standing in my pinned white dress I announced I needed the display one instead, there were a few shocked faces especially my mum lol. I swapped there and then just 3 weeks before the date!

SillySallySassySausage · 17/04/2022 20:02

I really love it in the silver too, it's quite a "different" look whilst still being quite bridal.

OP I like the first pink dress. How are you going to avoid freezing though in Feb? Or are you somewhere warm that time of year?

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/04/2022 20:23

You could see if there's any local dressmakers who can help you op.

Just been looking on Etsy and I had to share this it's over the top but I love it 😍

That's a stolen image. So a knock off dress. The Original.

Gorgeous isn't it! The longer dresses she makes are really lovely!

Thanks for everyone's help, given me loads to think about - including how to avoid freezing Grin
