How much do you pay for your highlights/ cut?

I'm Home Counties and got a 'top' salon in a middle class market town (can't think of a better description.)

A half-head of highlights is around £95, and a cut/ wash/dry is £75-ish.
This is with a long-term snr stylist.

I used to manage a whole year between highlights (I'm a mousy blonde, used to be more auburn blonde.)

Now, my hair is 50% grey and I find the parting area shows the grey in a few weeks. I've also swapped to a slightly warmer blonde highlights, as the pale gold were washing me out.

so with a bit of help from a colour wand (powder) I can only go 3- 4 months between cut/ colour.

I've never spent this on my hair EVER.

So it's working out at close to £200 every 3-4 months.

£18 a cut twice a year. &5 a box of hair dye every couple of months

Stroopwaffle5000 · 31/03/2022 12:02

My salon ranges from £50 to £87 for highlights and a cut, wash and dry is between £38 and £76. The price is dependant on what level of stylist you have.

Popetthetreehugger · 31/03/2022 12:05

I’m 50/50 grey blond ( natural mouse ) I spend about £80 ish every 6 weeks

Stroopwaffle5000 · 31/03/2022 12:05

Oh and because I have blond hair there is an additional £15 for the toner. She also adds in Olaplex to protect from damage. Not sure how much that is, but it definitely makes a difference!

NdefH81 · 31/03/2022 12:06

Exactly same kind of location

£90 cut
£135 half head of highlights

dementedpixie · 31/03/2022 12:07

About £60 for Full head highlights and cut (independent salon in Scotland)

How long does that take?

My highlights half head take more than 3 hours alone

That salon must have a tiny profit margin!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/03/2022 12:10

£30 for a cut, £90 for cut and full highlights. I have my roots done in between along with a trim and that's £60. But it's not a fancy pants upmarket salon.

Firstshoes · 31/03/2022 12:10

Just had mine done NW. Full head foils, olaplex, cut, finish and a nice cup of coffee with a biscuit £65. I go every 2 months and results are always really good.

dementedpixie · 31/03/2022 12:12

@NdefH81 it takes a couple of hours. While it's developing the hairstylist works on other clients.

Cheesechips · 31/03/2022 12:13

£105 for cut and full head of highlights. Mobile hairdresser but a fantastic one and worth every penny. I have loads of hair so can take up to 4 hours.

Cheesechips · 31/03/2022 12:14

I go about every 5 months as fair haired and roots don't show much.

AuntieMarys · 31/03/2022 12:14

Cut, colour, highlights and olaplex £140

Littleroundsponge · 31/03/2022 12:16

Cut, colour, full head of highlights and toner for £60. I go every 6/7 weeks, I'm in Liverpool.

BlingLoving · 31/03/2022 12:16

Similar location. My hair is short now so the price is a bit lower. I paid £75 for colour, cut and blow dry the other day - with the discount they were running. I think I pay about £90 for that normally and about £120 if I add highlights.

If my hair was longer, I assume it would be more. I think a cut and rough blow dry (which is all I would have due to length/style) is about £40 alone.

Beamur · 31/03/2022 12:17

About £150 for part head highlights and cut. 2/3 times a year. Go to cheap local hairdresser for trim in between which is about £20

Riverlee · 31/03/2022 12:25

I just paid £80-£90 cut and colour and £30 for haircut. I tend to alternate between the two, to reduce the cost.

Riverlee · 31/03/2022 12:29

No. The £80, includes cut/colour, the £30 is for when I just have a cut by itself.

Riverlee · 31/03/2022 12:31

Mine takes 2 1/2 hours. I’ve wandered about profit margins as well, especially as my hairdresser rents his chair.

Tyrozet · 31/03/2022 12:34

£70-£90ish for full head highlights and cut/blowdry including toner - at the higher end if I need Olaplex and alot cut off. I usually sit for 2-3 hours. Self-employed stylist renting a chair in a salon, Scotland.

Nitgel · 31/03/2022 12:34

£190 last time

Oblomov22 · 31/03/2022 12:36

Surrey
£30 cut
£60 highlights

KylieCharlene · 31/03/2022 12:39

£90 for cut and full head of highlights.
8weeks later I have a trim and half a head highlights £65ish.
Then repeat.

mnetting · 31/03/2022 12:40

I use a box colour for about £6 light brown, my hair is mid to dark brown so it just blends in the grey, it lasts 24 washes so roughly a month and a dry trim once a year at about £15.

MaryStuart · 31/03/2022 12:44

London zone 2, £150 for half-head of highlights, cut and blow dry. £20 extra if I add a toner. Tbh, with wfh so much now I don’t bother with that anymore.
I have it done approx every 6-9 weeks.
