How much do you pay for your highlights/ cut?

I'm Home Counties and got a 'top' salon in a middle class market town (can't think of a better description.)

A half-head of highlights is around £95, and a cut/ wash/dry is £75-ish.
This is with a long-term snr stylist.

I used to manage a whole year between highlights (I'm a mousy blonde, used to be more auburn blonde.)

Now, my hair is 50% grey and I find the parting area shows the grey in a few weeks. I've also swapped to a slightly warmer blonde highlights, as the pale gold were washing me out.

so with a bit of help from a colour wand (powder) I can only go 3- 4 months between cut/ colour.

I've never spent this on my hair EVER.

So it's working out at close to £200 every 3-4 months.

I cut DH hair during lockdown after watching a few You Tube videos. Did cut my fringe when hairdressers were shut. Never goes well.

FloralsForSpring · 31/03/2022 17:37

£120 including blow dry

Groovee · 31/03/2022 17:41

Edinburgh Salon

Highlights £75
Wash, cut and blow dry £45

@Franklin12

These threads all most always desend into 'I cut my own hair and box dye it and people often think its done professionally'. 99% of the time it really doesnt look professional (IMHO of course!). If it was that easy then hairdressers would no longer be required.

That and DH does it...

I dont colour my hair because there is no grey so a cut and blow at £65 every couple of months.

Its rather like those threads that claim they never iron anything and no one ever notices....

I don’t think a single poster has said that

£80 every six weeks. Cut/ blow dry and t section highlights.

ImAvingOops · 31/03/2022 23:43

I'm getting rid of my blonde for this reason - it's just too expensive to maintain. And time consuming. Going to get the hairdresser to dye it back to something resembling my original colour so I can stretch out the time between appointments. Can't be spending £100+ On fair with cost of living going through the roof!

JaceLancs · 01/04/2022 00:01

£38 for cut and root touch up every 6 weeks
1-2 times a year have full colour n cut for £45

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/04/2022 00:03

3x a year I have half a head of highlights to break up the grey at £110 which includes a cut and every 10 weeks I have just a cut which is £48.

I live in the South and use a mobile hairdresser every 12 weeks who used to work in a popular salon as a senior stylist.

She charges me £95 for a full head of highlights, cut & blow dry. Takes 3hrs for her to do my hair that's down to the middle of my back. I had to go to her old salon a few years ago when she was on maternity leave and had to pay £175 for the same thingConfused

dicedmint · 01/04/2022 01:46

London, teddington.

Full head of highlights, olaplex, wash, cut and blow dry £120. Honestly can't believe how cheap it is. She needs to up her prices because I'm obsessed with my hair! She does amazing job!

BigBagWhoolf · 01/04/2022 09:38

About 180-200 for cut and full head of highlights. Am in Suffolk. I'm mid 30s and have a lot of greys but I can't afford to do it anymore. If only I could screw my head off and on to give it a go myself.

BigBagWhoolf · 01/04/2022 09:38

BTW my hair is long (past my shoulders)

Porkmore · 01/04/2022 12:57

£80 every 6 weeks

£200 is extortion.
@SusieAndTheBannedShes to show how my lighter tones start lower down so any root touch up just blends with the darker part at the top (for about 4 weeks), then I go to touch up powder. Then invariably start to ponder how to go lighter near the roots for next time.
Thanks @Flyinggeese1234

I think I might have to do a 'reverse' and ask for a lighter shade at the roots to blend in with the grey. I used to have a light and a warm blonde together that looked very natural when my grey roots showed, then went for just the warmer blonde, but too much regrowth along my parting really. I used a powder touch- up for almost 4 weeks to make it last longer.

Wash, cut, highlights £82 every 6 weeks. Berkshire

Allsorts1 · 01/04/2022 15:09

London £220 for highlights and cut, not high end😢 used to be a glorious £180 but know my colourist is moving up in the world and went to cooler salon and I followed. Soon I’ll be priced out!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 01/04/2022 15:31

Just had it done today
Hairdresser works from her garage now
£40 for cut and colour.. but I have very short hair Wiltshire

uncomfortablydumb53 · 01/04/2022 15:35

I go every 6 weeks

actiongirl1978 · 01/04/2022 15:52

Similar location OP and almost the same price.

After many years of looking for a good hair dresser, I would pay any price increase.

To offset, most of my clothes are good ebay.
