NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 26/03/2022 02:59

I’m considering lip filler but nothing too drastic just a small amount

What should I be looking for and how much is it

I’m out of my depth

Despite knowing that they aren't everyone's cup of tea, I'm still quite surprised by some of the comments here. Those of us who have posted our actual current lips, have been variously told that they look 'shit' 'fake' and unattractive, and had it implied that people are probably laughing at us behind our backs.

This is how I actually look, at the moment. So cheers!

By all means say that it's not for you, but maybe we can do without the jeering and unkindness.

whataboutbob · 26/03/2022 22:04

Agreed opalescent, people should choose their words carefully and avoid being unkind. There’s no need to be rude.
I do find the ubiquity of enhanced lips these days disconcerting. . In the 30s it was all about having a small mouth and defined Cupid’s bow, and that’s what people believed was beautiful. It’s kind of mind blowing how fashion and images can make a particular feature or look so desirable.

@opalescent - I don’t laugh at anyone behind their back if they have lip fillers, face fillers etc, it’s their choice! If I had thin lips I might get lip fillers. Most women I know, friends, we either get work done or we don’t, but we wouldn’t openly jeer at someone because it’s not nice and it’s cruel.

But if someone asks on a public forum about it then of course I’ll say honestly how it looks, I’m honest, I don’t sugar coat things! If you don’t want comments then don’t post your pics. For what it’s worth yours are on the better scale.

2-3 years ago I briefly worked with a woman with duck lips, she looked ridiculous but I’d never have told her so!

@lipslipslips yep. Telltale moustache (shadow) above top lip

lipslipslips · 26/03/2022 22:58

That's funny - they are just my lips, it's just the light re shadows, I've got no make up on and it's not a very flattering shot . I've never had filler, botox or anything.

I was bullied constantly at school for having big lips and now those girls are having filler. You can't always tell when they have been "done"

MaxCrashtappen · 26/03/2022 23:07

Thank you to all who have been so complimentary - it's a very fine line to walk and I'm glad the consensus is i have stayed in the right side Smile

LightDrizzle · 26/03/2022 23:11

Everyone here posting photos has (unsurprisingly and reasonably) posted photos taken straight on and of course they are stills.
Fillers are most obvious when people talk and move and are ¾ or side on.
A similar problem is that we all subconsciously or consciously arrange ourselves when we look in a mirror and our brains interfere with the objectivity of what we see. The rest of the world sees the un-arranged-us, and their vision is more objective.

I’d like fuller lips but I won’t go for fillers unless fillers get very much better than they are now. I do get Botox for my no 11s and crow’s feet so I’m not averse to going against nature.

username09643 · 27/03/2022 02:57

Absolutely love mine! I had 1ml done at a professional salon which cost just under £300 I then found another qualified lady who is also a midwife who works from home who does them for me now 😀 just remember the swelling the next morning goes down lol! Remember Lots of arnica and antihistamines! X

SarahBellam · 27/03/2022 06:57
But her lips look fake.
blisstwins · 27/03/2022 07:09

@Scottishflower65

0.5 ml does me perfectly. It restores rather than plumps.
Exactly—this is the perfect amount. I also get I with a cannula instead of injections and like the way it comes out.
donquixotedelamancha · 27/03/2022 08:01

Unless asked for, keep your opinion to yourself

Not sure you've quite grasped how MN works, OP.

On the topic: while I appreciate some people stop at a small amount and don't look ridiculous I really don't understand women who go for the fish-lips look. How do they not realise that it looks silly and alien?

theyoungishman · 27/03/2022 09:55

That Instagram woman is so annoying I couldn't watch all of that clip!! But a few seconds I did watch... There's nothing natural about those lips

URMyStarship · 27/03/2022 10:34

Instagram woman is another case on Pont. It’s not the shape/fullness of her lips that’s like fake as they’re actually quite thin. It’s the texture. Her top lip doesn’t move. Her bottom lip is taut and shiny.

opalescent · 27/03/2022 10:47

@Gonnagetgoing I do appreciate your point, posting photos on a platform is likely to attract comments. I also do get that lots of people aren't keen (I used to agree!).
I guess my point is that I none of us posted our lips asking for objective opinions, but to provide examples for the OP. The original post was in style and beauty, asking for more info about lip fillers, as OP is thinking about getting them. That suggests that she's already decided she likes the look.

Not a debate about whether lip fillers look awful or fabulous. Not an AIBU.

@opalescent - but as someone else pointed out this is MN. You’ll get opinions whether you asked for them or not! You can’t force people not to reply or to reply.

There are always photos and comments on S and B with all these topics eg Botox.

inmyslippers · 27/03/2022 12:44

People will always comment how unnatural
It is because they don't realise how many people have fillers where you can't tell. I don't have fillers to look like i have fillers, I have fillers to look like I don't need fillers. Big difference

Fernsinthegarden · 27/03/2022 12:48

Going in a totally different direction here OP but have you looked at lip blush as well as fillers? It can create a deception of fuller lips without out committing to fillers. I know people that have had both and think they look nice so I’m not weighing in on the pros and cons of actual fillers, just thought I’d mention the blush as an alternative!

opalescent · 27/03/2022 13:05

Ok ok 😂 I stand corrected

I also thought the good doctor looked like she’d had something done to her lips. It’s the line/ crease that goes form the corner of her mouth up towards her cheeks. It’s a bit disconcerting.
gunnersgold · 27/03/2022 20:10

That professional in kat 's video looks like she has had way too much lip filler and other stuff . Naturally pretty but it gives that wide mouth look of Katie price ! For that reason I'm out!
Good luck op I'd love to have big lips ! 🤷‍♀️

seensome · 27/03/2022 20:44

If you want it just do it, they will always start with 0.5ml so it won't be anything drastic, it's when you keep adding to it, then it can look too big.
It won't last long, about six months and it will all dissolve naturally. It flipping hurts like mad though, because it doesn't last long, it's expensive and hurts I don't do it often.
